What have you done to your car today?

Working on getting the MR2 looking like less of a 24 year old car. Sucked all sorts of plant material out of the cowl, around the engine lid, and whatever I could see in the engine bay. Also rattle canned the wiper arms and the cowl vent things. The vents look great, the wipers need another attempt. Also vacuumed the interior. Yesterday I washed both of the cars, but the MR2 was so dirty that it needs another try. Damn gravel roads. :dopey:

Still away for work, so havn't done squat - but just ordered four of these:

YAY!!! Finally :)

Your nuts will get flogged, nothing is safe! But in seriousness I hope they don't get stolen.

They are spline drive so in theory most would be crooks wouldn't have the tool. Anyway, I'm pretty careful where I park, and it lives in my garage. If I saw someone having a go I would bloody kill them though haha

Just took delivery of my new twm shift knob. Will install on lunch break. Still not sure if I should go lefty-loosey on the jam nut or what (stock jam nut that is). Maybe you have some experience with doing this on your si eric?

I'm not using the lock nut. You'll actually bottom out hitting the plastic collar inside the shift boot (assuming you have the stock one) before you run out of thread on the shift knob. Partially why I did get a different boot, besides the stock one being crap material.

Where did you find those TRD nuts? And do they happen to come in blue?

As far as I know, red only. I placed the order on Perfect Run, an Aussie - Japanese online importer, they have them listed on their website.

Part number is 42607-SP020 if you're interested. They look to be excellent quality, they are made by McGard.

The damping actually kind of sucks. Better than something like Megan Racing or K Sport, but it still sucks.

Ksports, D2 and a few tein sets on different cars is all I had to compare these with. I guess that's why they felt good. We set them right about half way and they were riding really well over the crap roads.
What would you have suggested in about the same price range?

Yeah I actually found that out myself. However the wheels I'm about to get have blue stickers and blue valve stems so I'm wanting something blue for now.

Oh well Mcgard make these and on their site are nuts just like the TRD ones but the cap is blue instead of red, and they are just missing the TRD logo. Just look for the SplineDrive range.

GTI was due for an oil change, so I took care of that straight away this morning.

Went by the parts store to pick up some detailing supplies. Came home and spent the majority of my day washing, claying, polishing and then waxing the car. I've been meaning to really get into it, and today I finally had the time.

It's so smooth now. :D!

Yesterday I gave the "dog" a wash and wax which took me about 2 hours and then started playing with the shutter speed and a large flashlight. Result:

As typical, nothing has gone to plan. My engine is still a couple steps away from being ready to put in the car, thanks to having to run out for some more tools and search every auto store in town for a Prelude service manual for schematics. Honestly, how are these cars so rare?! All these cool early F-bodies in the junkyards from here to Denver and I never see a single 'lude! But anyway, it's pretty much just sticking the tranny on and a bit of harness work left. A couple plugs still need to be transferred and then I want to route everything so that the wires are at least decently tucked. It already looks pretty clean in front thanks to a full delete of the power steering system and tucked alternator wires. No idea what my days off are next week.

ED - oh, forgot I still need to get the im gasket off. Stubborn lil bastard.

You should be able to order a manual for it without too much hassle, being a pretty commonly modified platform, don't know where you'd look in the US though.

Good work though, no rush, do it once do it right.

So you're not running power steering at all?

I'm keeping my auto tranny, the one from my Accord bolts straight up. Actually, I've had a Prelude tranny in my car for a while now. I'm wanting to swap my sedan for a coupe so I'll get a manual when I do that.

Yeah, no power steering, I love the road feel. The pump is off the engine and the lines in the bay are gone, all the way to the rack.

I meant SERVICE manual

 Only one place in town had one for the Prelude, and unfortunately it's a Chilton so a few different generations are lumped together with a few Accords. But it'll do, as I don't feel like paying the $60 or so for an official dealer manual at this time.

Apparently the SSR's are a 6 week wait from when they get the order to when they leave their factory. 6 weeks. To make 4 rims. Then factor in another couple of weeks for delivery from Japan, my wheels are still 2 months away. Dang.

Might get lucky though, they said to "allow" 6 weeks, it could be quicker than that, when I bought my Samco induction pipe from the UK they said to allow 4 weeks for manufacture, it was dispatched the day after.

I would think SSR had plenty of pre-made wheels sitting around, as popular as they are, or are you having them make one with custom dimensions?

They are available in so many combinations of sizes, widths, offsets, colours, pcds etc, that I imagine they would make most of them to order. I'm after a bit of an odd ball size anyway though, so I'm not surprised they don't stock any in my size.

Nice, which ones are you getting?

Called HMotors this morning for the stats on my engine. 49,000 miles (compared to my car's 256k!), compression 255 in all cyl's, leakdown 10% in all cyl's.

I took the MR2 out for a pretty hard drive tonight now that the roads are dry, and I've gotta say that those bald Falkens still have some awesome grip. It would give my Civic a damn good run now.

I <3 sticky tires.

SP1s. I'm getting 17x8 +37 Normal Discs for the fronts (So I can fit bigger brakes in the future) and 17x8 +37 Super Low Discs for the rears. The fronts with have a lip depth of 57mm and the rears a depth of 69mm, which hopefully will look pretty good (I couldn't find exact matches on google, and no refunds on order, so if they don't look nice I'm screwed!)

Today, I drove my car.

Last Wednesday, I blew a clutch master and had to replace it.

Last Saturday, sitting in traffic, I felt the pedal getting soft. Sure enough, I get home and the line going to the clutch has sprung a nasty leak. Had to replace that, too.

The nice thing is, since fixing all of that, the car doesn't grind as much going into 3rd anymore. Yay!

In celebration, I topped off the propane tank. 97 RON is around $1.50 now, so that's a saving of about $0.75 a liter for each of the 30 liters I put in the tank...
