What have you done to your car today?

Mounted my extinguisher. More pics in my thread.

Well it will save a couple 458 drivers if they spontaneously combust on the highway. Or you could put it to use and come down to Texas. One dudes car caught on fire by the highway this afternoon.

I have one of these too. Every time I give someone a ride they look a bit scared when they see it. I don't understand why. It's a safety feature!

Haha maybe they expect that you need one because of the way you drive ;)

A fire extinguisher? Really? I'd be scared to ride in a car with an extinguisher too - the driver seems to think it's prone to combustion.

If my car doesn't catch on fire, nobody else's will. Fact.

And what if you are up against the wall on the drivers side? That's the whole point in having it in an accessible location within the cabin and why it gets CAMS approval in that location.

And what if I get a small under bonnet fire at any stage? I want to be able to take the fire out before my pride and joy goes completely up in flames. Small fire damage is fixable, the alternative not so much.

If I'm up against a wall I'm crawling across the passenger side and getting the hell out, not stopping to fiddle with a fire extinguisher, when there may or may not even be a fire...Every crash doesn't result in a fire...If it does, get out and away and let the car burn/let track workers take care of the mess. Its already scrap.

If you're involved in a car fire:

1. Get out of the car.
2. Run away child.
3. Lie to insurance company.
4. ?????
5. Profit!

Or if you're on a track, just keep driving it like a boss. Don't bother calling insurance because they'll be like aw naw hell naw boy ya'll done up and done it.

Dude I don't think you get it. I intend on competing with the car at some stage. CAMS dictate that every vehicle competing in any speed event have a fire extinguisher fitted that adheres to the regulations. One of those regulations is that the fire extinguisher is mounted in a way that it accessible to the driver and crew without the aid of a tool.

I consider the boot latch a tool, at the very least if the car gets pummeled up the back the boot may not be accessible. What if my leg is jammed?

Besides, why just follow the bare minimum rule, mounted beside me in the cabin is the safest in my opinion as I can access it quickly, IF I NEED TO. It's not ugly sitting where it is, it's a quality installation and it adds to safety. What could possibly be the problem?

Besides you completely ignored the point I had about being able to extinguish a small under fire that could completely engulf the car if left to it..

I understand perfectly, I'm just picking on you.

Next on your list should be gnarly tires and a race bucket.

We had a car at work that had an underhood electrical fire, and would have burned the whole car had the guy not had a small fire extinguisher in his trunk.

I dunno. I guess I just don't want a car that has been on fire once. Get away from it and let it burn, call the police and insurance. Get new car, rather than one with claimed fire damage.

No insurance at the track. And I've spent too much time, money and effort on it to just let in burn.

And my insurance wouldn't come close to covering that.

Having an extinguisher might be the difference between a few plastic panels melted and a car that's been on fire before.

We aren't talking about putting out a car halfway engulfed in flames, we're talking about a car that got some rubber undercoat hot from the exhaust and started smoking.

Not to mention we aren't driving new Civics here. I don't bother with full coverage for my vehicle, because even with liability, I pay more money than my car's worth every 6 months. Getting away from it and letting it burn would let $7,000 in parts burn, and then insurance would give me a whopping 2k. If I got lucky.

This. My wiring harness fried in an empty parking lot once. No fire, but I learned my lesson. I don't want a small electrical short to melt my entire car into the pavement because I felt that cool points were too much of a sacrifice for a two hour addition to my interior. It's a 45 y/o car. Best to be prepared.

In other news:

-fixed differential breather leak (Tightened a nut).
-added water to the radiator since the fluid level had gone down after the installation of the heater.
-tightened parking brake to it's limit. Means the cable is stretched to the point of failure. This will be a good time to replace the whole thing with a modern between-the-seats handbrake instead of the dash mounted one for safety and practical reasons.

Went to our local car meet for the first time all year, or all last. Miss it. Everybody STILL loves my car. ¯\(°_o)/¯

Yeah, same here. Although I park off to the side and just chill by my car and most people seem afraid to approach me or something, but they all watch when I roll up.

Do you have a pistol hanging out your belt or anything?
No, it's just they drive primered Civics, stock Accord with HIDS and automatic Integras and stuff. I think they are intimidated by me or something, like as if I'm a "serious business tuner" or something, because my car isn't falling apart.

Same thing used to happen when I had my Civic. When I had my RPF1s on, nobody would mess with me, but as soon as I put on my spray painted stock wheels on with snow tires, I'd have people trying to race me left and right, revving as they drove by, ect.

Yeah that makes sense.

On another note, I left my work van at home and drove my car to work today as we are working somewhere with a large secure car park and my gear is already in the factory, I wanted to have a little blat in it now that the wheels don't rub anymore :D

Need to see a good body shop though as there was filler in the left guard that has cracked when rolled, you can only see it if you go down and look under the guard but I want to get it fixed. Other than that, great success on the fitment front.

The ride isn't exactly Bently spec but it's not too bad. I had a friend in it last night and he was comfortable enough. Thats good, because he's the one I'm taking my car down with when we drive 12 hours to Bathurst 👍

The Panda clicked over 50,000 miles yesterday, in 3-4 years that's above average in the UK, especially for a small car (took my old Fiesta 10 years to get up to 50k). I suspect the previous owner, like me, did a lot of motorway miles. Still averaging over 36 US/44 UK MPG too, even on the last tank that had to cope with hours of London traffic.

Also had the tyres changed the other day. One of the old ones had a worrying split in the sidewall, no idea how or why, and since it seemed to have different tyres all round I felt a new set was in order. Now running on Falken somethingorothers. "Ziex ZE-912" apparently.

Feel okay in the dry so far but in absolutely torrential monsoon-like conditions on the motorway yesterday they were aquaplaning a little more than I liked.

Brakes need doing next. Past their best.

Have to say, once I've done the Beetle it's definitely getting an extinguisher. I mean, I know they're more prone to combusting than Celicas but with older cars or cars likely to run quite hot it's always worth having for the extra chance it gives you if anything happens.

Didn't do anything other than drive it. Driving the cars is fun sometimes. I enjoy working on them too, but driving is nice.

Changed an exhaust clamp.. Had the new clamp for at least 3 months.. Kept meaning to get it done, but never got around to it till today.. This is how it came off the car.. Completely rusted through.

Didn't need to even use a socket/spanner as it just basically fell off.
