What have you done to your car today?

I gave it a carwash. Also tried to fix one of the rear brake calipers, but it didn't work. The left rear brake on my '88 Isuzu Trooper was smoking when i got home. Guess i'll have to get a new caliper sometime this week. :grumpy:

Brought my Jeep in to get a new engine installed. Brand new Jasper AMC 258 Inline-6 with a sweet Weber 2-bbl performance carb. Whole package including labor... close to 5 grand :yuck: but it will be worth it! I also purchased a new JVC head unit and a pair of rollbar mount speaker pods.

fitting amp today, took the seats out to get cables under the trim
discovered the metal is crap, not from deterioration its just clear gm like to cut corners and save money wherever, and try to make things hard for any joe bloggs to sort things out themselves so they can make a bit more money when giving up and going to a "specialist".
so anyway! jus got the signal wires to fix into the back of the head unit and should be good to go!

Filled it up with premium gas (93 Octane) for the first time. Wow, what a difference. I'm averaging 3 more MPG.

Later today, or possibly tomorrow, I'll be washing it and vaccuming the interior. I hate having to park on dirt/grass. :indiff:

This looks like a good thread.
Its been a while since I actually bought anything for my 69 Camaro. I did the power steering and Hydraboost conversion 2 years ago and had an annoying squeal ONLY at idle after the conversion. If I hit my brakes at idle it did it, if I turned the wheel at idle it did it. I wasn't sure if it was the Hydraboost, the ps pump, or the belt. Never messed with it much because it only did it at idle. Finally I decided to route the ps belt through 3 pulleys instead of just 2 and and it worked perfect. I started the car and while at idle I turned the wheel both ways and hit the brakes with no more noise. I still need to take it for a test drive and make sure the belt will stay on when I rev over 6,000-7,000rpm.
I still plan on eventually getting a different PS pump because I hate the angle that this one is at. Every time I am at a road track event and make a very hard right turn, some of the fluid comes out of the top of the cap.

The other project I am working on is Heathers moms 73 Mustang. Last year we had the entire car apart, repaired all the bad metal, then painted the car inside and out. So this year I repaired some rust holes in the floor and welded in new metal, installed new carpet, sound deadner, installing 3 point seatbelts, new rear chrome bumper, and antenna. Then I need to wet sand the paint and buff it all out.

Plus we are working on heathers 67 Mustang but I will talk more about that later in its own thread.

Rotated the tires...the damn car's so front-heavy, I could lift the entire side with the jack under the front door. Kinda NASCAR-style.

I do that to get jackstands under the rear without having to jack up the rear, I just jack up the front and pick the back up.

Started wet sanding and buffing out Heathers moms Mustang. Decided to start with one section at a time. Started with the driver fender last night. First I wet sanded the fender with 1000 grit then moved to 1500 grit to remove the scratches. After that I buffed it with compound and a buffer at very low speed. The difference was incredible and I cant wait to get the rest of the car all buffed out. Her moms car looks so much better already than it did when I got it last year. Its a totally different car now. Cant wait to get out there tonight and try to do the driver door and rear driver quarter.
Also took the carb off Heathers Mustang again last night. I think the float is bad. Runs perfect for about 15 seconds then the gas pours out of the top of the carb.
Bought a new inside mirror for my Camaro so I can place it higher in the car so the camcorder can see out of the windshield better when I attend road track events.

Had to order them online because I couldn't find them. Was a total of $13, but that's because they gave me a choice of five free magazines which brought the shipping to $9. From what i've seen in their magazines, I might be ordering from them again (Speedway Motors)

Made a little more progress on Heathers moms Mustang. Got the entire rear driver quarter panel section all sanded with 1000 and 1500 grit paper and buffed out. Also started sanding on the door with 1000 grit.
I ordered the bumper brackets and bolts. Her mom bought the vinyl spray paint. So some time I need to pick that up so I can paint the interior.
Tonight I am going to finish up the driver door and maybe start on the top of the car on the driver side of the stripes.

Now that's dedicated. 👍

Look forward to the vids!

You can see most of my older videos of my Camaro here. http://adfabdesign.com/Site/Videos-676.html I still need to get some up from my Grattan event last year 2007 with YSSMAN.

Last night was a really good night on Heathers moms Mustang besides the mosquitoes eating me alive. I finished sanding and buffing the driver door. It was the first time I got to see the entire side of the car all sanded and buffed out. I am very happy with how it turned out. All the hard work from griding, welding, sanding, priming and painting last year finally paid off last night.
The rear bumper brackets should be coming in for the chrome bumper. I also need to pick up the interior paint some time over the weekend so I can get the interior painted to match the rest of the car. Its been a huge project thats getting closer to being completed.
I also finished sanding on the driver side of the hood. Saturday I will start on the driver side roof and the driver side trunk. Almost half way finished with sanding and buffing the paint out. 👍

 I like it

Cars are too heavy nowadays, so I ripped all kinds of things out of my Bimmer to see if I can make it as light to actually notice a difference. Unfortunately I can offer you no pictures yet, but there will be some in the near future. I will weigh all the stuff I ripped out as well. Here's what had to go so far:
  • spare wheel and jack
  • old triax speakers from the back shelf
  • swapped the enclosure sub to an ultralight neodymium free-air model
  • swapped the sub power amp for a lighter class-D model
  • removed carped and damping from the bootlid and the dividing wall between trunk and cabin
  • removed the entire rear seats and the damping behind them
  • removed the covers and the damping from the rear doors
  • removed all floor mats
There still are some things to be removed within the next days, and the impact on driving and fuel consumption is to be proven as well. But it sure is fun already! 👍

thas dedication lol
i hoovered mine out today, and had a go with some mer yesterday, looks dirty again after a day lol now iv got the subs in iv noticed that the standard volume control has a mind of its own, one click up from quiet and it jumps blows me head off, then sometimes i turn it down and it goes up!

I just washed my car. looks way better now. also took notes on what needs to be replaced or bought

Today I had stayed up all night so I decided to change the pan gasket while my father had time to help me. I really hate the gaskets that the previous owner used because they are such a pain in the ass to get off. You can get the gist of it off, but then you have to spend a good 10-20 minutes getting all the other rubber bits off. It may have been refurbished 6,000 miles ago, but for all I know that could have been 6 years ago because he didn't drive it.

It was an interesting experience to say the least. I was extremely tired so that combined with the mineral spirits I used and having to blow the little rubber bits out made for a fun time trying to walk around :boggled:

@Diablo: Who ever thought an orange engine was a good idea?

It's actually red, and the previous owner I guess. I don't know what color the engine was before, or if it had a color, but when the previous owner rebuilt it he painted it red. I like it, and if you look at most classic cars they have painted engines as well.

That actually brings up something that I've been wondering. What color did Plymouth paint their engines? I know GM was orange, and another company painted theirs blue (most likely Ford), but I don't know what Plymouth painted theirs. I'm assuming red, but i'm not sure.

Your car is looking great CDailey. Once I get everything settled I definately still want to race.

Ford was mainly blue and black
GM was mainly orange and black
AMC same as GM
Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth were either orange, light blue, or black.

At least from what I've seen.

Thanks. And sweet :D It may be a closer race than we thought though. I found out that due to my not so great transmission, I lose a lot of horsepower through the drivetrain. My engine is rated at 255hp, but I'm only making about 170-180 to wheels :(

Painted my spare valve cover today. Can't wait to get it on.

@Diablo: Who ever thought an orange engine was a good idea?
Woo! It looks great PB. My cousin painted his Z6 cover all white with Black words, and my other buddy ground the little Honda word flat and painted it bright red, leaving the H symbol silver. I want to paint mine a a base of gold, then put a bunch of little heart stickers all over it and mask the words, then paint satin black over it. When I peel the tape off It'll have gold Honda love all over it.

Also, they had to paint blocks back then because they were iron. You can watch it rust in minutes.

Got it washed and cleaned the brake dust from the wheels. Looks brand new. :D

Wow. That thing looks incredible. Probably the best 300 I've seen...

On Monday I take the GTI in to get the 2-month old fender dent fixed. After that it'll be due for washing, waxing and some rubbing compound to get the paint looking a little better.

Well stock my engine is rated at 180hp (I think it may be underrated), 235 with a four barrel, but my car is all steel so it weighs a lot more. If anything it will be fun just to race.

I'm going to end up selling the car stereo equipment that I have, so I may be able to get a four barrel for it. I priced all the stuff I have and I could probably sell it for $600, not bad for originally buying it for $50 and four batches of strawberry jam
