What have you done to your car today?

Dont know if this counts as me doing something to my car but anyway; the ignition coil on my mid nineties Polo decided to melt today, and now the car wont start.:(

Is this a common problem and how much does an ignition coil cost and is it just a matter of popping it in or do they have to be configured or anything? I know I dont have a great car but anyone who wants to give me some money to get something better is more than welcome. :dopey:

I think it's more or less just a pop in job, but I dunno about the price. Won't be too high, but not as cheap as spark plugs.

Thanks, it was just clicked in. It cost €55 for a brand new one though, not too bad I suppose. Maybe its just me but I think trottle response feels a lot better now as well.

I got a bit accomplished today.
  • Air Conditioning works now woot
  • Grey door panels are in
  • 4th gen radio is in

Now all I need is to figure out why my 6x9 speakers won't fit in the back and to wire up the power mirrors. Oh, and carpet+headliner+paint. You know, the usual. LOL

Today I changed the oil and oil filter (with a little help from my father). I also tightened the bolts on the bottom of the transmission, though I probably still need to change the gasket. It would actually be a good idea to do that tomorrow while I still have my friends stands.

Throttle response probably should improve, as you're probably getting better ignition now.👍

Air con is a big +.

I finally got the side skirts installed and the car is pretty much ready for it's first car show in a few years.
Here's some pics of the skirts installed this weekend.

Looks real good James 👍. You've had that car for a long while now haven't you? Do you still race it?

Well, as of yesterday it looks like I have finally (fingers crossed) sold my 180SX and I also today got the Gti back up and running for the first time in about 13-14 months. So this coming week it's WOF time and then hopefully we can get it up and road legal again.

What did you get for the 180?

It's just driven off....

$6K in the end. I'm not unhappy with that. It may have had an average paintjob but it was mechanically solid and it went well (read fast) so I reckon that was a decent price.

And now to buy a new car 💡

a) Change your sig.;)

b) Oh no not another "looking for car" thread.

Damn! Was that on the EVO?

Yup, sure was.
This is the before pic.

The Apexi one came off pretty easily, but the N1 muffler thing would not move. Didn't want to heat is up too much and melt plastic, so one of the old man's panelbeater mates buffed it off and touched it up, as well as some of the other scratches. Looked pretty good, but it was pretty dark when I saw it. Gotta inspect properly tomorrow.

Oh and the antennae things are gone now too.

Just gonna leave them on for winter I think. It'll take about 2 minutes to take them off, so I'm not overly fussed about it.
Quite surprised at how much I don't care about the colour any more either. Still plan to give it a Subaru WR Blue respray at some point though. Or something blue along those lines.

WR Blue Mica on an Evolution? That's a bit conflicting, don't you think? :sly:

Haha yeah, I do love my Subaru's still.
It's a bit lighter than the dark blue they used on the 6's, and I just like that blue, or maybe something like Bayside blue or Ford's Blueprint. Using a Subie colour would just be a bit amusing for me.
But thinking about it, maybe the French Blue thing they used on the Evo 7's would be a bit easier, and clash less, because I really don't want to spray the engine bay/inside the boot etc. if I don't have to.

Cheers for the reminder, I imagine that would have been there for a while before I realised.

I wouldn't worry about a "What should I buy" thread, I've already been eyeing something up.....

So, do tell what you have in mind.:)

Looks real good James 👍. You've had that car for a long while now haven't you? Do you still race it?
Thanks Joey. 👍
Yeah, I still race it and just recently beat my best 1/8 mile time with a 9.323.
I'm planning on taking it back to the 1/4 mile track and see if I can finally break that too.
Here's a vid of the last racing I've done.

Other than that, the car is getting setup for track days.
N/a engine rebuild is coming soon and 5 speed swap is also in the plans for the car.
Major car show is coming up in a couple of weeks and I plan on taking home a trophy or two if the judges like the car. We'll see and wish me luck. 👍

went round to see my other car, still shut away until other car is sold, somewhen! ebay went without a sale..£400 is not exactly asking much for a fine car is it?

Thanks Joey. 👍

Awesome video, you car sounds pretty good too. And the 280Z is down right mean! Best of luck on the car show 👍.

That 260Z you'd seen had the RB25DET engine in it. :D
There were a few people that went to the track that night and were on the video.
He blew an oil line on his second run which had to be cleaned up off of the track.
