Wash it again, which it needed after the rally racing.

So now it looks like this again...

Hey, if my stock shocks were busted I'd give them a last hoorah too.

But I'd have at least considered the paint's feelings first...

I opened the hood of my car to let the smoke come out. It was running to very very hot over here once I turned on my A/C to check if that works then all of a sudden, white smoke started to come from my hood. So I quickly pulled over, turned off my A/C and opened the hood. I am going to come up with a small list of what to change in my car or the things that need maintenance

Yes I could, but then it takes 2-4 times as long, lol. I can't keep my car on jacks that long unfortunately. I could do one a day or something like that, but driving around would look pretty silly.

I did it this after noon that way. Just would do two wheels at a time. Honestly, one of the biggest time consumers was cleaning these wheels, took a while with all the spokes and such.

Did you paint the inside of the wheel as well? Did you use high heat automotive paint or wheel paint? How much paint did you use per wheel/total?

I might practice on my spare soon...

I did a quick spray to the inside of the wheel, but mostly to just darken it. Brake dust and other dust will build up in there soon again. I just used, erm, Rustoleum paint, or something similar in that it is just a metal paint. So $3.50 a can USD, and I could coat two wheels with a can. I'll see how long this last, but I might just end up sanding them a bit and doing a real serious job later. But these will just end up being my track wheels in a couple of months anyhow.

Interesting. Did you not sand them at all, or do you mean you'll just sand them back down and start over if they don't hold up? I can understand using the cheap stuff if you're just gonna use them on the track. I used regular Krylon for my grill and in about 8 months of driving (including a 600 mile road trip) it's only had very minor chips. I'd like to think the wheels would see a fair bit more abuse though, hense wanting to use automotive/wheel paint.

JCE
What kind of $ does it cost to insure that thing over there?

well, as a second car, with 1000 miles a year and worth £500 on third party i got quoted £700 ($1000) which is quite good, but i have only got a quote from one company, others just straight out refused. the money i can handle its just getting anyone to insure me in the first place!

Do you not have Civics there? I see them all the time with mismatched wheels. They're so common that whenever you see a car with mismatched wheels it's a "lol" moment and you forget about it.

"I can only afford 2 good wheels...hey, I know, I'll throw them on the back and run steelies up front! Genius!"

Actually, just about every modifed car I've seen here since January has been very tasteful...or at least not gaudy.

I sanded and primered my spare today. I ran out of daylight, so the painting will happen tomorrow. Sanding is a PITA. That was the longest part :-/

I'll post pics tomorrow after I finish painting.

Washed the Talon today...
Second time in two days. It should stay dry through the weekend, at the very least.

Edit -
I finally uploaded some photos of my last project on the car. I had partially finished a set of wheels last spring before mounting tires for autocross use in the summer.
I finished putting them into paint a week and a half ago, here's what I did:

Before: Sandblasted finish, with polished spoke faces and lip.

Masking the spoke faces.

Finished the initial masking - Half a dozen hours in (VERY finicky design leads to excessive time consumption...).
I've also done most of my prep, and have hand-sanded up to 400 grit.

In primer

Two coats of gloss black, a single coat of acrylic clear.

Finished.

I still need to figure out how to clearcoat the polished aluminum without having it flake off shortly after... But it's not urgent.

I never ever thought I'd ever say this but last week I drove a civic, and had fun doing it. It hasn't changed my opinion about the car mind you, but you couldn't not have fun with what I was doing.

I don't have any pictures but I do have the story, sorry but I like to tell them. It all started with two of my friends and I hanging out trying to figure out what to do. The whole point of the night was finding a place for my friend who has an 04 civic to try a 180 handbrake turn because he wanted to try it. My other friend and I already knew the perfect place so we headed to where I stepped on it in that video which has a good sized dirt/grass area the size of decent parking lot.

We get there and he tries a few while I'm operating the handbrake in the passengers seat (I don't really know why, he wanted me to) and it was decently fun. With all the windows down the car was filled with dust so we all got out to cough our brains out then head back. I jokingly get in drivers seat but with no contest from my friend put it in drive and go buck wild. I kinda feel bad because I drove the living hell out of it, constant full throttle doing handbrake turns and slides and slamming the hell out of the brakes when I was finally done (I did this a number of times because hell, it was too fun). We go to leave but already hyped up my friend says pull the handbrake on the street, so I do and around we go. We must have did at least 10 different 180 turns on that street, the only full 180 being at 45, but it was insanely fun. Satisfied with that we head back to town and stop to check out the car, and suprisingly there was nothing wrong with it. I was expecting at least a belt squeel or something with what we did but absolutely nothing, he even still had a full tank of gas.

In the end my current opinion of the civic is that it's a big go-kart, and I can't wait to screw around with it in that field again, lol.
