What have you done to your car today?

So, I finally rigged up my cheapskate exhaust flange and bend, but I got done to late to go buy a pipe to extend it out the back. Right now it's even more annoying than it was before, I'm guessing because instead of just being under the car it's resonating inside the huge void of my bumper cover.

A buddy of mine had a crappy muffler for his old hatch, so I used that flange and bend, but cut the muffler off:

The bend sits in there pretty awkward, but surprisingly the hanger keeps it sturdy and it doesn't vibrate. I had to torch and bend that hanger bar on the pipe in order to put the rubber hanger there. Now that it's exiting in the big empty space that used to house a muffler it's quite resonant, so I'm going to get a pipe with a 2.25 inch inner diameter to slip over it and extend it out the bumper, where it's supposed to be.

I should have painted it before I put it in there. It had plenty of surface rust when I got it, but nothing crazy, so I think it'll be fine. I am going to paint whatever piece comes out the back though, probably black.

Yeah, but it still retains that good ol' "Honda" sound because of the stock resonator. A Buddy Club Spec 2 has a tiny little resonator that butchers the Honda sound and is the closest thing to straight pipe outside of a ridiculous custom jobbie.

The Lolvo got a new set of boots last Friday - Bridgestone Turanza ER300s - as canvas should only be visable on tents.

drove the firebird 270 mile round trip, it survived well. did have to top it up with more trans oil before i started back, but i was expecting that and had a bottle. its like a greenhouse under the glass roof, and the fan was lousy i was melting in it! the radio is also naff, not helped that it only tunes in to odd numbers, and most uk stations frequencies are even numbers...not that it matters as the speakers in it are just as useless!
i was impressed by getting 30mpg though! much better than the 15ish around town :scared:

That's with the silencer, without it it's just a straight pipe with somewhat of a megaphone shape at the end, which explains it's loudness.

I moved it. By hand. By myself. The engines still not turning over and I'm not exactly sure what it is. My brother thinks it might be the choke because of the heat. Makes some sense, but not enough for me to try and act upon it.

Not unless it filled up with so much fuel that it hydrolocked. Besides, when you choke an engine it runs rich, and when it runs rich it cools down, so I don't see how heat would have anything to do with that.

Why would the choke stop the engine from turning over?

The heat, don't ask me. I'm not very mechanical inclined when it comes to engines. All I know is that whenever I try to start it, it doesn't want to go. It gets spark, it gets fuel, the starter works. Something doesn't that I can't explain. My brother threw the idea out that it might be the choke. I'm just going to go along with it.

So it sounds like it is turning over...

So it sounds like it is turning over...

Well yes and no. All the required things to make it start are there. But it doesn't want to actually turn over. The starter turns everything around and around but it doesn't lead to actually making the car rev or idle or anything.

Do you guys think these would look good?

They're good wheels, but are you sure they'll fit the RSX?

According to their website, Crofts only seem to come in 2 fitments for every inch you go.

17x8.0
18x8.0
18x9.5
19x8.0
19x9.5
20x8.5
20x10.0

I assume so; i entered my model on their website, and they show a little notification that all the fitments either "fit your car" or "does not fit your car" and the 17x8.0 one was listed as fitting. I have 17s now and brand new tires, so that would be perfect.

I'm not sure what the 8.0, 8.5, or 9.0 mean but i'm guessing it's the width of the wheel?

At any rate i doubt i'll be lucky enough to find that exact style, because i'd prefer to buy the wheels at some local tuner store.

The 17x8 should fit fine, 18x8 might require a little camber and minor tire stretch if you'd ever go to coilovers. That's just basing it off what people do with the 8th gen Civic. I wouldn't expect much different out of the RSX.

But I don't think those will look very good on it. What's on it now looks better I think.

Edit: You've probably got 17x7s on it right now, if you were wondering. Oh, and for an 8" wheel, +45 offset is probably what you're gonna want. Nice and flush. Again, look at ClubRSX to check on the fitment, that's flush on the Civic...

One last edit:

That's 17x8 +45 on a set of Work CR Kai replicas. Same thing I'm going for, but with the real thing and gunmetal.

I've always wondered about that, too, but if it is in regards to the width, then I'm lost on offset. :dunce:

Of course it's the width, 16x9 where 9 represents the width in inches.. Or the more correct way of listing wheel specs, 9Jx16. How are you lost on offset?
I thought you made a thread on wheel choice for your car or something a while back.. :odd:

I think the 9Jx16 is more of a regional scheme, as I always see diameterxwidth. And what is the J about?

I like my wheels now too, but i got new tires a couple days ago and found out that one has a small crack in the inner rim. :(

Yeah i'm not sure how i really feel about dark colored wheels on my light colored car, either. I've never liked that look. I need to do some Photoshopping.

BTW, the offset is the same number as it is for tires, right? I've got 220/40's right now.

No. No no no no no no.

Tire sizing - for example, your 220/40R17 is like this...The 220 means from edge to edge of the tread it is 220mm wide. The 40 is the aspect ratio (is that the right term guys?) and measures how "thick" the tires are. In your case, 40% of the width (which is 88mm, so from the inner diameter to outer diameter is 88mm. And of course the R17 means it fits a 17" wheel.

Wheel sizing - for example, those 17x8 +45 Work reps...17" is the wheel diameter, 8" is the wheel width. Simple enough. +45 means that there is a 45mm offset. Offset refers to where the hub mounts up with the wheel, relative to where the center of the wheel is. So a wheel with zero offset meets up with the hub right at the center. On those Works, the mounting point is 45mm outward from the center of the wheel.

Have a read here about offset:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offset_(wheel)

So you know, the recommended tire size for a 17x8 wheel is 215/45R17

I made a thread asking for people's opinions, not what size fits the car. I gave the OEM specs as way for everyone to know what will & won't fit. Most just posted what they liked.
No. No no no no no no.

Invisi. +rep.

Gian, you could always go with slightly OEM style. 18" only, though.
