What have you done to your car today?

So how many cars do you have Eirik? The Charade, this thing (I'm not even going to guess, I don't know all of the small cars you guys get)...A daily? (or this is the daily?)

I believe he has two. That is a Corolla DX I believe. Thats his beater/daily, the Charade is a fun car.

That is correct, plus a POS Mitsubishi Colt in Cyprus. The KE70 (Corolla) was bought as a winter beater, come spring it was still alive so it was officially a daily. How the future looks? Dunno :D

Nice work on the Corolla, Eirik 👍

Changed the tie rod ends.

Stupid turd is burning coolant, no good. This was supposed to be a cheap car...

Still need brake pads to pass state inspection.

Woah, I must have missed something... what are you driving around in at the moment?

So there was this Nissan 240sx that I was looking at about 3 years ago when I was looking for a first car. Turns out the dude still had it, except the fuel pump had gone bad during that time. A buddy of mine gave me a 350z fuel pump he had laying around, we wired it up, put some good gas in it, and the thing started like on it's 3rd turn over.

Picked it up off the dude for 400 bucks, and for the past few days I've been bringing it up to the point where it will pass state inspection and I can start driving it around. It's automatic, but that will be fixed asap.

Only problem is that I discovered it was burning coolant pretty bad. Changed the oil yesterday and didn't see any coolant in the oil, so I'm REALLY REALLY hoping it's just a bad intake manifold gasket, since the coolant runs through the IM on it's way into the head.

I was actually going to take some pics today, but it started raining, hard.

EDIT: For the price I paid for it, it's in insanely good condition. It's got a few dings, and the bumpers are peeling, but everything works, even the a/c. Transmission shifts really hard, but I can think of at least 10 other that had this problem, and it's leaving as soon as I get the funds.

I got to work and locked my keys in the car.:dunce: Managed to open it with a long piece of steel tubing during lunch break but scratched up my car pretty good. Need to do a little paint work now.

I open mine with those keys you use for locking your pushbike 👍 Worst of all, I'm not kidding...

240sx, nice. So is this going to be a long term replacement for the Civic or just something to pop about with in the meantime whilst you find something more permanent? If you are keeping it for a while and it becomes another slow-moving project I'd be very interested in reading updates, given how good a job you did on the Civic before it's untimely demise.

Should be a slow moving (hopefully quicker than the Civic) project, assuming I can actually get it to the point where I can drive it reliably.

Fixed a flat on the camry, washed exterior and cleaned out the interior. Finally figured out why one of my brake lights wasn't working, just a disconnected wire. Replaced a fuse to get the clock and cigarette lighter working. Replaced the bulb for the heater and ac controls.

Tomorrow I will be going to the junk yard for a hitch and the pieces to get the speedo a working. Should also be getting a yakima roof rack from a guy in town tomorrow.

I'm pretty excited about this summer and i'm planning on turning the all-trac into my all purpose vehicle. Also going to see about getting a small trailer so I can haul stuff around!!! Yes for some reason i'm excited about that.

Installed the roof racks, simple enough. Also put the hitch on, ended up costing more for the bolts to mount it than the hitch itself.

Changed the intake manifold gaskets, still seems to be burning a bit of coolant though. I really don't think it's the head gasket, since the oil had no coolant in it (even though it hadn't been changed for the past 3 years or so) and the coolant itself looks clean.

I'm basically trying everything else I can think of before looking at the head gasket, although I'll try to borrow a compression tester this Monday just to make sure. The only problem is that the white smoke smells more like gas than the "sweet" smell that coolant apparently has.

Also, I think I might need a new thermostat, the bottom hose isn't getting warm like it should when the thermostat opens, but the car doesn't seem to be overheating.

I just have to keep reminding myself that I paid only $400 for this thing, so even if I spend a good bit of money on it, it's still going to be a "cheap" car. Wouldn't really mind if I had more money, but still.

Did the first $40 fill up of the summer, what the hell is with fuel going so far up? I know it's summer but come on!

I also gave the Cooper a quick polish today to make sure the water beaded nicely since its supposed to rain for a couple days. Also Rain-X'ed the windows, headlamps, and fog lamps.

Installed new rotors and new brake pads on the MR-S. The rears were pretty bad; I'll have pictures up tomorrow in all odds. They'll be over in my thread.

That's not how you flush the coolant...

That's not coolant. Not the way to wash your windscreen either though.. :D I learnt the car how to take a piss, literally. Very funny when people are crossing the road in front of you, or when you're exiting the school car park.

Went to test the tps on the car, but found the volt meter to have a dead battery, so I simply unplugged the tps and let the car drop to a base idle.

Fluctuating idle gone, and the transmission shifts at 2,800 rpm instead of 4,500 like before.

In other words, drivable until I get a new tps and do a manual swap. :D

If the car works fine without the TPS, why does it even have one? :dunce:
