What have you done to your car today?

Today I went a bit mad;

Actually, it's for the show n shine tomorrow (2 hour drive away, lots of bugs!) but I'm not sure if it's staying on for the journey.

No. No no no no no no.

Tire sizing - for example, your 220/40R17 is like this...The 220 means from edge to edge of the tread it is 220mm wide. The 40 is the aspect ratio (is that the right term guys?) and measures how "thick" the tires are. In your case, 40% of the width (which is 88mm, so from the inner diameter to outer diameter is 88mm. And of course the R17 means it fits a 17" wheel.

Wheel sizing - for example, those 17x8 +45 Work reps...17" is the wheel diameter, 8" is the wheel width. Simple enough. +45 means that there is a 45mm offset. Offset refers to where the hub mounts up with the wheel, relative to where the center of the wheel is. So a wheel with zero offset meets up with the hub right at the center. On those Works, the mounting point is 45mm outward from the center of the wheel.

Have a read here about offset:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offset_(wheel)

So you know, the recommended tire size for a 17x8 wheel is 215/45R17

I see. Thanks for the info.

Gian, you could always go with slightly OEM style. 18" only, though.

Hmm, not bad. It works too because i actually made a mistake, i have 18s not 17s. :dunce:

That's brilliant. So long as it doesn't get sucked through your radiator.

That makes a little more sense Giancarlo...I was wondering why you would have had 220/40 tires, that would have been making your speedometer slightly off.

How much are you looking to spend on wheels anyway?

Today I went a bit mad;
down the sides too? might be best just cling film the whole car
though i think they will let you off a few bugs unless its a full on concours :scared:

today i took the firebird out for a stretch...was really just going to be a loop to bournemouth and back but i got on at m27 j1 and joined the queue  so got off eventually a few miles in and down through the forest to join another queue at lyndhurst, cooling is fine but its low idle (400 in drive) gets me worried sometimes, plus it doesnt do the fuel gauge any good! went down to the coast through more forest through beaulieu and exbury to lepe breathing in many times with oncoming cars  really nice drive though, the roads i picked were empty :) its a shame nice days are spoiled by mass crowding

What did I do to my car today? I paid the damn thing off! Loan go bye-bye :D.

Congrats!

I took my car out today for nice old drive in the downpour we're having at the moment. Sorta took the car sideways pretty violently around a corner and somehow my blackberry sitting in the front console flew over and landed perfectly in the passenger door compartment. Took me 15 minutes of searching through the car before realizing where it had landed.

Went where few have gone before.

I know, I massively fail at applying decals...

I changed the air filter and fuel filter on The Beater.

Went surprisingly well. No sheered off bolts or nuts like usually happens. And everything even went back where it was supposed to!

Why don't you have one of those permanent protective films applied to your car? It's got to be worth it, they're virtually invisible when applied well, protect from stone chips and things and supposed to make washing pretty easy too. Of course, it wouldn't stop you collecting dead flies but just in general...

You can usually tell where those invisible shields end. Especially after you've had it for a while, the edges will collect dirt from the bit of adhesive there, so you get a black line of dirt outlining it. They also turn yellowish after a lot of exposure to the sun.

Well, the bug shield worked somewhat but luckily there was a good cleaning spot there once I turned up! I spent the whole day finishing off the car and got 3rd place in the end. I finished behind a completely mint S2000 in 1st and a properly show prepped Peugeot 106 that was heavily modded and has won shows all around the world! So I'm chuffed with 3rd really! Got a tub of Lusso Oro Wax and Lusso Oro Paint Cleanser, not a bad prize at all!

There are companies that do much better ones than that now. I know the sort of things you're on about but the technology has improved beyond that - especially with correctly fitted ones by professionals.

And this is the UK. There's no such thing as a lot of exposure to the sun

Good times.. :) Did the same thing about a week ago, sideways through some blind corners and some roundabouts, ended up being stopped by the cops.. Not fun. Talked my way outta it though, and the cops ended up by having to push the car so I could start it, haha..

The past three days I've changed oil on the daily, washed it, changed the tail lights, changed a strut on the 'show car' and driven 450 miles or so.. So it's been three relaxing days :)

Spent my whole day (like, 2pm to 7:30pm including lunch) cleaning up the Civic. About the only way to clean the wheels good is to take them off and do it, so I started with that. Then a good old wash and wax, which it was getting overdue for. I went ahead and Windex'd the windows, but ran out of time and motivation to do the interior again. It collected a ton of leaves and crap this week.

Sorry, didn't take any pictures. I still haven't bothered to take it somewhere decent to do a proper photoshoot.

Whoooo, finally got my 6x9s in LOL, now my ears can be blown off peacefully.

By 6x9s? I doubt it. Would have been better off spending the money on sub. Or at least a decent set of components for the front, where the sound should be coming from.
Now you've got the sound stage set mainly to the back and when it gets loud the speakers won't be able to reproduce bass notes or treble notes as well as a seperate set for each would, for the same money....

Wash, waxed and polished the Cooper. Got Nxt Generation 2.0 wax, ICE polish, and Mothers Back to Black plastic polish. Car looks pretty good, not fully detailed but about as much effort as I'm going to do. I was going to do the wheels but then it dawned on me they are going away in a couple days so I'll just do it while they are off the car.

6x9s is that all? youl be getting a slight wheeze perhaps!

on speakers, i set about looking around for replacements in the firebird. dont want to replace the stereo i just want slightly better speakers, some cheap modern ones. theres only two 6x9s and two 4x6s so no problem! took em out and promptly changed my mind...10 ohm! 10! the whole systems in 10 and theres slim chance finding modern equivalents without using home entertainment speakers and heck most of them are at 8 :indiff:
oh well will just leave it off :)

lol, people suck at reading/watching pictures :)

Apparently....
You see they are right by my ear....
And they have a 450watt amp to power them.
Joking about having my ears blown off but i can still get hearing loss easily.

Moglet, Perhaps you dont know the array I have? there are the 2 subs, 2 5"1/4s
which yes Im sure get drowned out, then the fronts are a maximum of 4". Then of course I have the 6x9s.....

And yeah I know I should have more sound from the front but as of right now... I have very little money and everything but the 6x9 boxes were taken from my Talon. That being said I do need a more powerful deck for the fronts, but Im fine with having everything coming from the back and doesn't sound as bad as you may think.

As what I did today though...Its my friends RX7 again.....

Hey thats not crazy, if my talon was still working at 90ish% I would have done that too...then again I may not have got my RX7 if it worked at 90ish% still :P

Yeah, just took them off so I could spray some oily gunk in the doors, prevents rust. And thank you :D

Today, I gave it a workout..

900 miles since Thursday, lots of beating, not used a drop of oil. Man I dig it.

So how many cars do you have Eirik? The Charade, this thing (I'm not even going to guess, I don't know all of the small cars you guys get)...A daily? (or this is the daily?)

Changed the tie rod ends.

Stupid turd is burning coolant, no good. This was supposed to be a cheap car...

Still need brake pads to pass state inspection.
