What have you done to your car today?

I removed the soft tonneau and ladder racks in preparation for the filler panels and hard tonneau.:) It was quite a mission actually, a couple seized bolts, and also had to remove the fuel tank well cover in the tray to get to some of the nuts on the bolts holding the ladder rack. It already looks a lot sleeker since the ladder rack was higher than the roof line making it "appear" taller. I also replaced a blown headlight bulb.👍 Overall the work done today has taken around 3-4hrs, with breaks and dawdling in between.:P Tomorrow I need to give it a good wash, and clean the windows, as well as vaccuum the tray out and clean it which I haven't really done since getting it a couple years back.

What the heck is that?
I really can't make that out on what it is and to gain that much power must make it a pretty good mod.

Other than that, nice looking ride.

It's just a short ram intake. The filter is cut just for picture purposes. The stock airbox on these MS3 are restricted as hell. Any intake will help greatly. I'm going for SRi because it's easier to install. No need to remove bumper or jack up the car.

Cobb SRi gets 11hp, 16 ft lb of torque gain.
Cpe SRi gets 15 hp, 9 ft lb of torque gain.

Like I said - only reason why i'm going with Cpe (make great intake as well) is because the Cobb SRi is backordered and probably won't be able to get it anytime soon.

Dude, just grab some fishing line or something; the badges will come right off. Some goo-gone or similar will get rid of whatever's left.

Very easy.

I pour some goo gone on the logo... then let it sit for like half a minute... then i used dental floss (work very well) and slowly get through all the glue. Same method as you would to floss your teeth. haha... works very well.

After it comes off - put some more goo gone on it... then wipe it off.👍

Installed a new ECU (actually old one was flashed) and put a new diverter valve in my A4. I can really feel the difference in boost!

Goo-gone eats clear coat.

Mmm...clear coat

My dad changed the oil and I did the tire pressures and some vacuuming. We switched to synthetic oil.

Goo-gone eats clear coat.
Only if you keep it on the paint for some time.
Generally, when you use the product, it's removed in a short period of time with little time to settle into the paint.
WD40 works well in removing the residue as does Isopropyl Alcohol.

Goo-gone eats clear coat.

Like Misnblu said, I don't think it would if you didn't let it sit for too long. Having it on there for 2-3 minutes, I doubt it would have any affect.

I washed the car after I took off dealer logo just incase... Getting rid of any excess goo-gone left on the paint.

I performed a little surgery:

I had to take the taillight out, unscrew most of the screws on the left side, heat it with a hair dryer and then pull it back and have the little sister squeeze in there and push it out.

It looks better, but nowhere near back to normal. Oh well. I had fun tearing it all apart. The bumper is also pretty bent out of shape now because we had to pull in it pretty hard to get an arm back there. But since it's getting a new bumper anyway, that doesn't really matter.

Took the suspension and brakes through their paces. Any recommendations on a sport suspension brand that offers a nice daily ride and tight cornering at speed?

I bought one of these:

and 4 of these:

All pictures for reference only. I've wanted CP-F's forever, got a great deal on a used set, couldn't pass up the opportunity. Takata harness and Bride seat for bling bling points... a Crow harness would have done just as good, as would have a Sparco Sprint bucket... but not as impressive to the kids, y0.

Is that harness for road use? They're illegal on the road in Australia. Despite the acknowledgement they're safer in an accident, they're trickier to get off for emergency crews or yourself in a crumpled tin can, hence the reason they're illegal. Oh well.

Changed a (horribly fouled) plug on the XL600 yesterday, as well as the air filter.

It starts beautifully, now. So I went for a ride.
She still needs a few maintenence items addressed (Leaking fork seals, chain needs to be removed and cleaned/lubed, swap big rear sprocket for the stock one, general once-over as it's new to me), but I'll be able to work on it all week.

I went and scrubbed off a little tire at an autocross in the Talon today.
All in all, a good weekend.

CP-Fs for your Subie? :odd:

All of this is for the EK. Sold the 5 lug conversion and went back to 4x100, I'll most likely be running the fastbrakes/Willwood fronts and teg rears.

Doesn't matter if it's street legal or not, this thing is turning into a track toy only... Debating on which R-compounds to go with, now...

Came within three feet of a deer in the middle of the road. Scared me to the point of spewing out random obscenities to everyone who would listen... an empty car.

I thought that too. I abused them a bit though... I was actually able to make them squeal. I was so proud of myself.

I did a fair amount of work on the BMW this past weekend...

  • front brakes --> new Brembo rotors and Axxis MetalMaster pads

  • front suspension --> new control arms, ball joints, & E30 M3 offset control arm bushings (increases caster)

  • new front wheel-bearing/hub-assembly on the driver's side

  • replaced torn steering rack boot

The car rides much better now. That new wheel bearing makes the most difference.. it's nice to be able to drive without a metallic clamoring every time I make a right-hand turn.

I brought her home, with the Infill Panels installed and looking sharp.:sly:

Gave up on carbon ceramic pads for the street. I'd got myself a set of Endless CCX pads for the Evo. Stopped the car remarkably well, but were wayyy too loud around town. Tried everything to quieten them down. Backing shims, kevlar backing pads, copper grease. It's not fun when everyone within a 2 km radius of you knows everytime you hit the brakes in traffic.

Got a set of cheap, soft pads and put them in. So far so good. Hope they stay quiet, because they're actually pretty terrible at the whole stopping the car thing. But I'm hoping that's just because I'm used to the carbon ceramics, and I'll adjust. But still, takes about 5 minutes a corner to swap out when I need to go to the track, so win win I reckon.

Yeah, the speedo is a little optimistic, given that I don't think I've managed to get within 40mph of the end of it! The same speedo is used on the higher powered variants though so it's a little more realistic for those... and I think it's even used in some of the 90s Escort XR3s and RS2000s so for those it's more or less right!

I've put roughly 35k miles of the 50k on the car since buying it in March 2003, so around 5.3k miles a year. Not a lot at all, but more than the 3k miles a year the first owner put on it.
