Just replaced a case fan on one of my machines.

Been having random shutdowns for a couple of days. The bearing on the 120mm fan was seized.

I'm suspecting that it's a dying PSU, but this needed replacing so done that.

Nothing in the event viewer, PSU must be 3-4 years old.

Helped with a little QA for the latest OpenELEC release and installed 3.2.2 on my AMD-based HTPC and on one of my Raspberry Pi. And to think 6 month ago I was still getting annoyed at my NMT boxes and we didn't have a single XBMC install running. Now we're counting nine devices running XBMC! 👍

Unrelated ish but can you guys tell me an easy way to keep track of my monthly download usage (across all users using the laptop)

Thanks in advance

Started looking in to programs that will backup and transfer files. I've set up 'Allway sync' to back up my dads server in his home office to my NAS at my place. I've also found one that takes images of the disk which is cool but it won't allow me to install it on a server. A free ShadowProtect type application is what I am really looking for.

OH MY GOD Nvidia finally added keyboard shortcuts for Surround. I can toggle it on and off without having to dig around in the menus! Awesome.

^ Yo dawg, I heard you like shortcuts... :P

It took a bit to get it working for some reason but I set up a remote connection through logmein so I can stop changing my monitor inputs. Turns out it was an issue with Firefox as the first time I tried IE, it connected immediately, which is odd because I use FF at home to connect to my work computer and it works flawlessly.

I'm pretty sure I've asked this question a few times, but:

If you had an i5 2500K on a Z68-V Pro motherboard and three ageing 22.5" 1680x1050 Samsung 226BW monitors (two of which are from 2009 and made in Thailand, the other is from ???? and made in Romania and has a very different tint to it), which of the following would you do first:

Option 1: Upgrade the processor to an i7 4770K and motherboard to an ASUS Z87-Pro,
or
Option 2: Replace all three monitors with 23" 1080p Dell U2312HMs.

As I'm pretty happy with my PC's performance in 90% of games (though I'm sure Arma 3, one of my favourite games, is CPU-bound at around 20fps) and I want PS3-compatible monitors for my sim rig (oh, and I'm sick of everything looking greener in my left-hand monitor), I'm leaning towards the monitors... I'm interested to know what you guys think, though, hence the question.

Any particular reason for those monitors?
I run a U2410, mainly for the connectivity it has.
Not much connectivity on the U2312HM :nervous:.

Note: Damn just checked out all the new dells for connectivity :yuck:, I must say I'm very disappointed in them. When compared to what I had and have now.

What's wrong with DisplayPort, DVI, VGA and 4x USB 2.0? That's amazing compared to what I have (DVI and VGA) and is exactly what I need; my 680 has 2x DVI, 1x HDMI and 1x DP, so these monitors would occupy the DVI and DP while the cable for my TV would go into the HDMI. My newly liberated HDMI switch (I've got one of my monitors sharing the HDMI with the TV through a switch) would then be used to share the monitor in the middle with my PS3, in theory anyway.

I chose the U2312s because I have a U2412M and I love it, the colours are great and the viewing angle would suit a triple monitor arrangement well, but it's not too wide (24" at 16:9 would be too wide for the space I have). Also being 1080p means they'll work fine with my PS3.

Finished setting up my Windows Server .wim image in audit mode. All I have to do is capture it and install it to my server via PXE boot. My active directory setup is almost complete. Now to start on my other server's .wim image. It will have certificate authority, DNS, and RADIUS authentication roles installed. Stuff gets even better when I incorporate powershell scripts to aid with network processes such as backup.

Which version of Windows Server are you using? Is this for home or work?

I'm rolling with Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. Well, updating to it currently. This is mainly for my home network.

Currently working on a powershell script that will back up files into my backed up .wim images. I want it to backup files from my computer (browser data for example), mount a backed up image with DISM, inject the files into the image, then demount the image.

Setting up a server is not that hard when you are certified.

Nice. Sounds like you're pretty good with powershell.

I'm planning on setting up an SBS 2011 Virtual server at some point but my host will need some upgrades first.

Are you fully Certified for 2012? I've started mine recently, only done the first 2012 MCITP upgrade so far.

I'm a powershell noob. I love tackling the hard stuff tho.

I am not certified in anything . Although I am knowledgeable enough to take the MCSE 410, 411, 412, and 413 exams (taking a 414 webinar course now), which I plan on taking the beginning of next year (can't take them now, busy with college stuff).

Get those upgrade implemented 👍.

Replace the monitor. The 2500K will last you years to come.

That's what I'm thinking, it's still good for almost all games and I haven't even overclocked it yet (because I'm too lazy to find out which air coolers fit in a Define R3 because I don't think the NH-D14 does), but my monitors are getting ooooold. But, yes.

It will fit. ;)
