Any Mac users here? I'm going to upgrade to OS X Maverics when I get home but I wanted to see if anyone here has an opinion on it.

On another topic, I'm having trouble setting up the internet settings on my Ubuntu server. Can anyone help with that?

I've installed Mavericks and it is pretty good so far. I've not explored many of the extra features such as maps or iBooks but the new safari is good. I've run into a couple of compatibility issues so far but I'm sure they'll be ironed out quickly.

I didn't do it today but I cleared CMOS and regained functionality of 4 USB 3.0 ports by reinstalling the controller driver for it.

What compatibility issues have you had? I'm sure the extra features will be worth dealing with them but I'm just curious.

Just a programme I run called candy bar which allows me to change my icons to whatever I want is yet to be updated to 10.9 compatibility. And one of the bits of software for my course appears to be crashing more frequently too but otherwise widely supported apps are fine.

Ok, that program sounds cool. I'll look into it.

Oh, is it out? I have a spare drive in my Pro so I might take it for a test drive, but my main drive is still on Snow Leopard. Still, free is free, might as well try it.

Neema, get the monitors. I got one a couple months ago and it's excellent, having 3 of them would be great. They're also the kind of investment that would last for years.

I plan on installing it as a VM machine over the weekend.

You have to be more definitive with the internet settings. You mean setting up it up with static IP address settings? You can always use DHCP, but make sure you have a DNS server with a forward and reverse lookup zone (You don't have to have to have a DNS setup, but it assures you won't have any problems when a client tries to connect to your server).

Sorry, I'm trying to set a static ip. I'm pretty sure the things I did include DNS. I'm using http://www.howtoforge.com/linux-basics-set-a-static-ip-on-ubuntu as a guide. My server throws an error when I try resetting the network interface (Step 3).

I installed it. Roughly the same with a few minor features. Supposed to save a lot of battery life and somewhat add ram due to the new features. However in reality it made my computer lag. I assume they will get these bugs out pretty quick since so many people upgrading but if you didn't yet I wouldn't say get it currently. I go to open movies in QuickTime and they for some reason say converting, finder has froze and had to force quit a few times, I use iglasses for my camera anti is now distorted, etc.

Sorry. I'm only knowledgeable with Windows OSs :guilty:. The process shown looked simple tho. Try disconnecting NIC from the network then setting IP settings. There should also be a explication of the error code.

Stored my laptop away and gave it a vacation until I receive the new replacement fan(With shroud) from china. So now I've moved the desktop computer into my room until I replace the fan in my laptop. Feels quite nice despite using my big headphones as a speaker. Will have to get a pair of speakers sometime soon.

Bought a new mouse. It's just a cheap, $20 HP USB Mouse, but it fits my hand well and works great. 👍

Sent my Nexus 4 in for RMA. Stuck on a bootloop.

What is this?

My god damn s3 for some reason just turns off and you can't press any buttons. Literally have to pull the battery to get it to start back up. My carrier said call Samsung. I did and they told me free fix but it will take about 48hrs to approve. I call today and they told me its actually 48hrs to see if I'm approved. If I have to pay a dime ill snap.

I'm approved and I will get a free replacement. Mine only boots after leaving it alone for a while, but then it loses network after 5 min.

So I came pretty close to buying an NH-D14, but then I thought that since my performance is more than acceptable in 90% of the games I play I'd be better off saving it to put towards the monitors. Then I bought WRC 4. Sigh.

I'm installing OS X 10.6.8 on a 320GB hard drive so I can upgrade it to Mavericks, I don't expect to be able to replace the Snow Leopard system I have with it just yet but I'll see what works and what doesn't. If Arduino, Processing, Math Type and Open Office work then maybe I'll make it into a work-only OS install, so I don't keep getting distracted by Ghost Recon and C&C: Generals...

Updated some software and the bios today. Since I updated the bios today I also had to set my memory back to DDR3 1600 speeds. I already miss my dual monitor setup with my laptop. Once it's gone for a while you do really miss the feature a lot!

:grumpy: Just got a promo USB stick 3GB, put some files on it. Next time I plug it in get garbled file names / types and now I can't get my stuff back :ouch: Tried Recuva, did find anything. I have never seen a USB stick act like this, even with free-bee ones. If I get my stuff back its going in the bin!

Looks like this, (Not my pic)

The very same thing just happened to a friends drive. He lost all of his work including a 6 page report :/.

I tried out a few Android-powered tablets earlier today at a Wal-Mart. These were mostly some lower-spec tablets of the 7-inch and 8-inch variety. One of them felt pretty good in my hands with the textured backing- that tablet was the Hisense Sero 7 Pro. I got a little 8-inch experience with the Nextbook 8-inch dual core. I also tried out the ASUS MeMO Pad FHD 10-inch tablet. Though I could have done more with them, I also saw the Windows 8.1-powered Acer Iconia W3 and the Acer Iconia W510. In the future, I'd like to try out the Google Nexus tablets and the Microsoft Surface tablets.

So if it's okay to discuss getting some mobile tablet experience in this thread, that's what I did today. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 (or even the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0) is what I am most eyeing as my first-ever tablet computer.

Ok I called twice already and waited over 48hrs yet Samsung still has not messaged me back. I can't even use my phone so this is a pretty serious issue. The fact they went beyond the time period they said they would is bad but the worst part is the they emailed me saying thank you for signing up to our news letter. I email their special repair email and they sign me up for a news letter instead. I think they are closed today but I'm definitely gonna call tomorrow to scream at them.

Next time you buy something, look at the Warranty procedures. Google has possibly one of the best customer service, with them paying for even the shipping on an RMA.

Not quite today (was Friday), but thought I'd include a picture of my new video card purchase :P:

What have I done today?

Well, I changed from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1, and i've yet to decide if it's an upgrade or not.

One thing I hate though, I lost all my bookmarks in Google Chrome. :grumpy:

I've just added my PS3 and Mac Pro to my powerline network. With any luck this will a) make the media server connection between my Mac and PS3 work consistently and b) improve the streaming quality between all the connected devices on the network (my PC and two media streaming boxes are also connected), not to mention prevent wi-fi signal drop outs and such.

I moved from an ATX case to mATX:

Next thing to do is sort out the fans/cooling with quieter stuff, will add some sound padding too.
