What Have You Done Today - (Computer Version)

Had a bit of a scare last night.

I purchased new ram, Just a slight upgrade on my 64GB 3200mhz Corsair Vengeance LPX. I found a great price for 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 3600mhz. When I installed it my PC wouldn't boot properly and would constantly bluescreen. I do have 2 updates I could do to the BIOS could that be it? I'm unsure if I want to reinstall it now I've stopped the bluescreens and using my old LPX again. I thought my PC was done. It said it needed repair and all the fun BSOD stuff. Thankfully I installed my old RAM disabled XMP and since then its been fine.

I bought a new USB Type-C to HDMI adapter, since I misplaced my original one. I was hoping this was going to finally allow me to use HDMI and not DisplayPort. Sadly... it doesn't. So it looks like I'll be rocking DisplayPort on my main PC. Unless there is DisplayPort that is faster, I'll stay with my old .onn DisplayPort to HDMI cable.

I'm told DisplayPort has better bandwidth and specifications over HDMI, but the DisplayPort to HDMI cable I use is slightly slower than what my PC monitor shows. Maybe I'll need to find a better cable or a decent adapter.

Looking for a new case. I like Be Quiet! stuff so I got my heart set on one of theirs. I already have a BQ! Cooler and PSU and I'm very pleased with them.

I prefer the Light Base 600 DX but the Pure Base 500 FX comes with 4 Included Light Wings fans which are about £50 for a 3 pack of 120mm ones. Seems like a great deal.

Anyone have any experience with BQ! cases?

The Pure Base 500 is a fantastic case. I've built in a few of them now and really like it. Looks great, has great thermal performance and the RGB looks awesome.

I've found BQ! products to be really nicely made with great documentation and attention to detail. Lots of little things which make it easier during the building process. Reminds me a lot of Fractal but at a lower price.

Pure Base is the one I'm most likely going for at the moment. A PC shop owner I know swears by BQ! stuff. Especially the coolers

I can't comment on that case, I have a Lian Li case which has also been superb for airflow and thermal performance. But I do have nearly a dozen BeQuiet Silent Wings fans inside which have been excellent as well. My machine has been around since late 2020, and none of the BQ fans have failed, and all run as quietly now as they did when I first installed them.

Switched to Windows 11 a week ago now, and even from the onset I liked it more than I thought I would. Weren't any growing pains, outside of moving the start menu to the left side and then moving it back to its central positioning because, for some reason, it's just better that way.

Would I opt for that with any version other than 11? Absolutely not. But here it immediately felt weird to have it in the center, but it felt even weirder when I changed it.

It's smooth, it's snappy, and just about the only thing I dislike is the sorting options aren't saved between fresh starts/boot-ups. I will admit that full DirectStorage optimizations is what triggered it. That, and a high CPU usage issue in a few games that I wanted to see if switching would get rid of (had nothing to do with Windows, it was files I edited ).

Suffice to say, I honestly don't see myself going back to 10 at this point and that says a lot to me because Windows releases tend to follow a hit-miss schedule, and 11 is a "hit" now.

My gaming PC I've had for a little over a year now is Windows 11, my work computer is Windows 11, but my 10 year old home PC is still Windows 10 and it's giving me all kinds of trouble. It locks up almost once a week, File Explorer will just suddenly not respond requiring a restart, etc. I really need to go ahead and get a new Windows 11 PC but I just can't make myself give up the $$$$.

Finally put up the cash for a 1440p monitor now they are quite affordable. I've experienced 4K and 1440p for a while with large 50+ OLED TVs but I still was using a 1080p monitor for my PC which seemed a bit stupid considering the money I've put into it. I really wanted the 1440p version of my Lenovo Legion 27' 1080p monitor for symmetry in the 2 monitor setup (😂) but for some reason its obscenely expensive.

After a bit of perusing I plumped for a LG Ultragear 27' 1440p. Very agreeable price, Good reviews and has all the features I want. 200hz Refresh rate and 1ms response Etc

I've purchased a new case, I was going to go Be Quiet! but Amazon come through with a great deal on a NZXT Fishtank style case. The H9 Flow. Seems like a very well regarded case by all accounts.

Anyway, When I transfer my build into that case I want to get rid of my unused HDD. I want to format it ready for when I take it out but it says that it has important Windows files and data on it. I've never used it as the C/Drive so I don't know how "Important" files got on there. What shall I do?
