Had a bit of a scare last night.

I purchased new ram, Just a slight upgrade on my 64GB 3200mhz Corsair Vengeance LPX. I found a great price for 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 3600mhz. When I installed it my PC wouldn't boot properly and would constantly bluescreen. I do have 2 updates I could do to the BIOS could that be it? I'm unsure if I want to reinstall it now I've stopped the bluescreens and using my old LPX again. I thought my PC was done. It said it needed repair and all the fun BSOD stuff. Thankfully I installed my old RAM disabled XMP and since then its been fine.

I bought a new USB Type-C to HDMI adapter, since I misplaced my original one. I was hoping this was going to finally allow me to use HDMI and not DisplayPort. Sadly... it doesn't. So it looks like I'll be rocking DisplayPort on my main PC. Unless there is DisplayPort that is faster, I'll stay with my old .onn DisplayPort to HDMI cable.

I'm told DisplayPort has better bandwidth and specifications over HDMI, but the DisplayPort to HDMI cable I use is slightly slower than what my PC monitor shows. Maybe I'll need to find a better cable or a decent adapter.

Looking for a new case. I like Be Quiet! stuff so I got my heart set on one of theirs. I already have a BQ! Cooler and PSU and I'm very pleased with them.

My choices at the moment are between -

LIGHT BASE 600 DX

PURE BASE 500 FX

I prefer the Light Base 600 DX but the Pure Base 500 FX comes with 4 Included Light Wings fans which are about £50 for a 3 pack of 120mm ones. Seems like a great deal.

Anyone have any experience with BQ! cases?

The Pure Base 500 is a fantastic case. I've built in a few of them now and really like it. Looks great, has great thermal performance and the RGB looks awesome.

I've found BQ! products to be really nicely made with great documentation and attention to detail. Lots of little things which make it easier during the building process. Reminds me a lot of Fractal but at a lower price.

Pure Base is the one I'm most likely going for at the moment. A PC shop owner I know swears by BQ! stuff. Especially the coolers

Pure Base RGB with a Dark Rock Elite would look amazing!

I can't comment on that case, I have a Lian Li case which has also been superb for airflow and thermal performance. But I do have nearly a dozen BeQuiet Silent Wings fans inside which have been excellent as well. My machine has been around since late 2020, and none of the BQ fans have failed, and all run as quietly now as they did when I first installed them.

Switched to Windows 11 a week ago now, and even from the onset I liked it more than I thought I would. Weren't any growing pains, outside of moving the start menu to the left side and then moving it back to its central positioning because, for some reason, it's just better that way.

Would I opt for that with any version other than 11? Absolutely not. But here it immediately felt weird to have it in the center, but it felt even weirder when I changed it. :odd:

It's smooth, it's snappy, and just about the only thing I dislike is the sorting options aren't saved between fresh starts/boot-ups. I will admit that full DirectStorage optimizations is what triggered it. That, and a high CPU usage issue in a few games that I wanted to see if switching would get rid of (had nothing to do with Windows, it was files I edited  ).

Suffice to say, I honestly don't see myself going back to 10 at this point and that says a lot to me because Windows releases tend to follow a hit-miss schedule, and 11 is a "hit" now.

My gaming PC I've had for a little over a year now is Windows 11, my work computer is Windows 11, but my 10 year old home PC is still Windows 10 and it's giving me all kinds of trouble. It locks up almost once a week, File Explorer will just suddenly not respond requiring a restart, etc. I really need to go ahead and get a new Windows 11 PC but I just can't make myself give up the $$$$.

Finally put up the cash for a 1440p monitor now they are quite affordable. I've experienced 4K and 1440p for a while with large 50+ OLED TVs but I still was using a 1080p monitor for my PC which seemed a bit stupid considering the money I've put into it. I really wanted the 1440p version of my Lenovo Legion 27' 1080p monitor for symmetry in the 2 monitor setup (😂) but for some reason its obscenely expensive.

After a bit of perusing I plumped for a LG Ultragear 27' 1440p. Very agreeable price, Good reviews and has all the features I want. 200hz Refresh rate and 1ms response Etc

Any help would be appreciated.

I've purchased a new case, I was going to go Be Quiet! but Amazon come through with a great deal on a NZXT Fishtank style case. The H9 Flow. Seems like a very well regarded case by all accounts.

Anyway, When I transfer my build into that case I want to get rid of my unused HDD. I want to format it ready for when I take it out but it says that it has important Windows files and data on it. I've never used it as the C/Drive so I don't know how "Important" files got on there. What shall I do?

I learned as long as I have a USB Type-C hub, I can use that to allow for more storage and capabilities for my Chromecast With Google TV. I had one USB Type-C hub I used for my PC. I now use that same hub to my Chromecast With Google TV. I also learned I could use the USB port on my TV to power the Chromecast With Google TV. I bought myself a second USB Type-C hub to use as another USB 3-type hub. I am looking at maybe getting the newer Google TV Streamer. If I feel I may lack the wattage to power everything, I may invest in a power delivery charger of at least 65W.

Now for the future. I am slowly moving towards upgrading to Windows 11. As an owner of a refurbished mini office PC and a refurbished business-type laptop, neither can immediately be upgraded to Win11. So I'll have to get Windows 11 through other means to make this possible. From my previous PC, which had Windows 8, I had to download about 3GB worth to upgrade it to Windows 10. I even burned it onto a DVD for storage. I am still going to use Windows 10, but I am now looking towards moving to Windows 11... kind of like, you have no choice unless you want to pay for more Win10 updates after sometime in October 2025. I heard even people say PCs over 10 years old could still somehow use Windows 11 and works well.

Installing Windows 11 on a machine that won't normally qualify for the upgrade was incredibly easy.

Not done today, but I've finally done some good optimization of my PC. I had to switch out the GSkill RAM for some Crucial Ballistix 6400mhz. I came across a ton of memory speed issues but finally have found some stability.

The 4K OLED is gorgeous, and the 165hz is amazing. I didn't wait until Black Friday to but some of these things, so seeing the prices for the 200+ version of my monitor now stings a bit, but I'm satisfied with what I have. The 9800x3D is something else paired with a 4070 TI S. Curious about the 50 Series cards and their price/performance.

I would like to jump on those before things get weird in January.

Today, I finally set up my printer to work with my current PC. I have a Canon PIXMA TS3720 Wireless Home All-in-One Printer. It is cool because it works wirelessly. I am using it for now for scanning. For years, though, I have yet to replace the ink cartridges. I don't usually print up a lot of stuff anyways, but I one day want to replace the all dried out cartridges with newer ones. I entertained the thought of trying to revive the years-old cartridges through different tricks, but I almost pretty much voted against doing that.

Is it difficult to revive the old cartridges?

I saw the different methods of reviving dried out cartridges, and it mostly seems complex. I certainly don't want to mess up the house or the cartridges (or both). So I'll do the safe thing and buy some new cartridges. I may get either just the black-and-white cartridge, or I may get both color and black-and-white, though I don't think I will be printing anything with color any time soon.

Yesterday, I bought new print cartridges for my printer. I been meaning to replace the cartridges for a few years for my printer being mostly dormant. At least now I have some new cartridges for when I plan to print things.

Did a long overdue dust clean for my desktop. I got a new HDD delivered a few days ago (WD Blue 8TB, replacing an old WD Blue 1TB), but I'm waiting for a HDD dock to arrive so I can transfer all the files and swap it out.

Come to finalization (not realization, finalization) that a friend of mine is a certified ****ing moron.

This is a legitimate snippet from a conversation we're having about him flashing the BIOS on his TUF X570 Plus Wifi because he needs to do so in order to use the 5700X3D. This is spurred on by a video entitled "How to upgrade your CPU" and him wanting me to watch to see if the person did anything wrong:

Me:
  • You know the manual tells you all of this
  • RTFM
  • Please
  • You're killing me

Him:
  • I could learn how to change a tire. Head light, oil. All these things in my car via the instruction Manual
  • Or I could use the far superior YouTube lol where one physically and visually goes over it step by step. Surely you know the retention rate of knowledge absorbed visually is 3x that of the written word.

Am I being an asshole for wanting to post a YT video every time he asks a question from hereon? Because clearly, my written words — the same as in an instruction manual — aren't as valuable as a video because knowledge retention or whatever. This isn't me disputing that people learn in different ways, this is me disputing something that's patently foolish. You're going to go out of your way to search for a video (not knowing what to search for in the first place) in a commitment of time that exceeds opening an instruction manual and following said instructions step-by-step?

If that makes me an asshole then so be it.

If somebody asks me for advice and they disregard it by following some other guide, I just let them do their own thing now honestly. I also just try to point people in the right direction instead of guiding them every step - so I just Google a tutorial and say "try this"
