It's pretty much along the same lines.
OK, but is it Pulp Fiction-good, or Deathproof-good? I get the impression that it might be better than Kill Bill-good. Better than Deathproof, but not as quite as good as say a Reservoir Dogs, or Jackie Brown(quality of this one's debatable).

It reminded me a lot of Pulp Fiction, not as good but up there. I think what made Pulp Fiction so good was the cast. I've never seen Deathproof although I have it in my collection. I do think it's better than Kill Bill though.

I saw Inglourious Basterds yesterday, and I loved it. I haven't seen much of QT's work, but I think it was a great combination of drama, emotion, and comedy. It is certainly one movie that I would like to see again in theater.

Inglourious Basterds - It was everything I expected it to be and I loved it. It's hard to really say to much about the movie without giving anything a way. If you like Tarantino's style of films then you'll like this, however if you don't like his style of films, then obviously avoid (how's that for sound movie advice?).

I'm pretty indifferent to his movies and generally find them to fall short of the hype, but I have a feeling this one will be my favorite out of all his movies.

Inglourious Basterds was an awesome movie. Not quite as good as Pulp Fiction, but definetly way up there. It had its funny parts, but I also found myself laughing at certain parts that no one else laughed at.

The chick that played Shosanna was very nice too.

The Philadelphia Story (1940) -- When a rich woman's ex-husband and a tabloid-type reporter turn up just before her planned remarriage, she begins to learn the truth about herself. Starring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart, who at the time was little known, but he definitely left his mark on the movie and as a great actor. The movie is one of those unpredictable romantic comedies, a type of movie that is all too rare nowadays. It's also pretty amazing that this movie was remade in 1956 with Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Celeste Holm, all great actors, but who didn't reach the high level the actors in this one did. And that is ultimately what makes this movie such a classic and any remakes of it (or attempts to follow a similar storyline) fail so miserably. This movie is definite piece of Old Holywood that is great as it stands. It's #228 in IMDb's Top 250. 7.5/10

Inglorious Basterds

Wow, there is the Tarintino stuff I know and love. What an awesome thrill ride. I was laughing, covering my eyes, and getting so involved with the movie that I had to prevent myself from yelling at a character at one point. It happens in the bar. It was so obvious, at least to me, that I wanted to stand up and shout.

Totally awesome. It would be safe to say that its nearly my favorite Tarintino film. I can't wait to see what he puts on the DVD.

Id agree, just watched it, very nice.

Finally a good movie that i use my brain for.

Ying Xiong (a.k.a. Hero) (2002) -- A series of Rashomon-like flashback accounts shape the story of how one man defeated three assassins who sought to murder the most powerful warlord in pre-unified China. While the story itself is very so-so, you have to appreciate the visuals, intense amount of extras and the sword fights are amazing. The fight scenes are excellent and there's always the element of fantasy thrown into these movies, where the warriors jump from one lake to the next and even fly, though I don't mind if it gets too unreal after a while. There's also the semi-god-like figure of the warriors themselves. If anything, the only downpoint I can see in this movie is the always gorgeous Ziyi Zhang, who seems very whiny in this movie; her usual power and sensuality in other movies seems to be downplayed by her innocence, though Jet Li is as amazing as usual. 8.5/10

After the "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", I just got sick of the style. I still love the Crouching Tiger, but everything that followed in that genre since Crouching Tiger seems like the much lesser, watered down version. Not a fan of Jet Li either, which doesn't help. :D

Wow, I thought it was mediocre.

I loved Brad Pitt, but not until halfway through the movie. I saw through the one-trick bag of the actor who played the Jew Hunter. He would simply switch moods often and we were supposed to make the jump to thinking he's crazy. Also the we know and we know he knows but she doesn't know he knows and we know she doesn't know he knows scenes with the Jew Hunter were overdone I felt.

It was gory, but Tarantino just keeps digging himself in deeper and deeper ever since Kill Bill Vol. 2 IMO.

On the other hand, I didn't like Crouching Tiger that much. Sure, it's a good movie, but it seemed more to me as a compilation of a bunch of other movies with a great soundtrack.

Really? I thought it was pretty original. I haven't seen it in a long while though. Damn shame. :ouch:

Watched Gran Turino last night. Pretty good movie. Mostly predictible movie involving gangs.

My wife and I also watched it last night.

Gran Torino - (8.5/10)
This is a generally good drama. I couldn't tell if the girl that played Sue was just supposed to have broken English or couldn't act at all, but she kind of annoyed me because some of her delivery came off flat and emotionless. Otherwise it was an all around good film, which gives a realistic look at how the world tends to forget the older generations. It was a great look at the retired factory worker. It reminds me a lot of my dad, who is a die hard Chevy man and refuses to accept that my German car can be any good. He also retired from the Phillip Morris factory and no cigarette made from imported tobacco can possibly be any good in his mind. Overall though, this is another great Eastwood movie.

She reminded me of many Asian girls I've known here in the States, or in Japan, that regardless of her ability as an actor, I thought she did real good. In fact, she was so good, I was pretty disturbed by that one particular incident in the story.
I imagine it was. :)
Awesome. 👍

Mou gaan dou (a.k.a Infernal Affairs) (2002) -- Can someone please explain why oh why is The Departed the #58 movie in the IMDb Top 250, while this one, the original and much better movie is not? I've heard a lot of people rage about how good The Departed was, and not one speak of this one. The Departed is a bloody remake! Of this one!! So, now that Hollywood's originality is exposed, I have to say this is a great flick, needless to say, much better than the remake. The movie is a moody, stylish tension-based thriller, based on a very thought out story, great acting and originality. One thing I never liked of the remake was that both DiCaprio and Damon are neither bad nor good... in the sense that it's hard to see either of them playing a bad guy or a good one; this movie's characters have it all very well. Again, if you liked The Departed and want to keep liking it, I'd recommend you stay away from this one. If you want to see why Hollywood keeps on copying better made films, give it a try. 8.5/10

i watched the departed last night, as did step brothers and goodfellas.

what a night..

Really enjoyed goodfellas and the departed was also very good.

I'm gonna add this on my Netflix. I think I wanted to see this awhile back.

Did you ever see this one:

I liked it enough to buy my own copy. I usually don't care for Asian flicks(Japanese included), but this one I found really involving. The ending wasn't explosive, but you really end up liking both rival assassins at the end, I wanted them both to win.

I think it's worth a rental, dude.

I can't rent movies... it's a long story, and suffice to say I live in a 3rd world country where piracy is anywhere. But I'll definitely look for it... around. Have you seen Oldboy? Probably among the best Asian flicks around.

I agree with you there... Old Boy was a great movie... Korean movie if Im not mistaken... 👍

Just saw this movie last night:

goodbye_solo_poster_final.jpg

It's a story about 2 men crossing paths, one just starting his life,
and the other about to come to a close. I'd give it 9/10. Highly Recommended!

I just added the Internal Affair on top of my queue, and when I did, it listed Oldboy as one of the recommendations, so I threw that one in for a good measure. :D

Infernal* ;)
Are you friggin serious?

I had first heard of the movie when the Departed came out. Whole time, I thought it was called the Internal Affairs! The story is about Police internal investigation, right? What the heck!

P.S. I just realized it was an Andy Lau film. I had no idea, when I recommended the Fulltime Killer.
