Shooter - 2007 Action/Thriller Staring: Mark Wahlberg, Michael Pena, Danny Glover, Kate Mara, Elias Doteas and Ned Beatty.

Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) is an ex well trained sniper who is asked to assess a possible assassination attempt on the president of the United States of America. He takes the job, only to be double-crossed and blamed for the incident. He partners up with a rookie FBI agent (Pena) to go after the man responsible (Beatty) and those who double-crossed him (Glover) with the aid of his dead best friend's wife (Mara).

Most of the technical side is accurate, but not completely. The shooting scenarios are pure Hollywood BS, but that only figures in a story like this. While it wont win any awards, or be considered great by any means, it's a good movie that you should know I am very interested in the subject matter. Not really much to think about while you watch the film. You just follow the pace of the movie, and root for the good guys. Simple.

Though it's not all accurate, it does comes close enough. But with unrealistic shooting scenarios and rather simple story line, and you know I like the subject matter of the film, it's not a great score, but a fair score of... 7/10.

I liked Shooter too, might watch it again. 👍

I went to see Silent Hill this past Friday as well, and I'll agree with the above poster that it's most definately not for the faint of heart. It gets really gory in the last twenty minutes or so. Ech.

This Friday I'll be going to see Flight 93. I'm still not sure how I feel about that one, but I'll give it a shot.

Just watched Blade Runner and was very impressed, looks absolutely fabulous on Blu-ray - although the dialogue is a little muffled, and is vastly inferior to the rest of the soundtrack... fortunately, Vangelis's brilliant score is clear as a bell... I had a quick look on IMDB after watching and noticed a rather hilarious (and somewhat self-defeating!) question... don't read if you haven't seen the film...

Q: For the final time... is Deckard a replicant? a) Yes b) No c) Maybe

One of my favourite films of all time, but I do have to query you on the dialog.

I've got the BR version (actually I went mad and imported the ultimate boxed set from the US) and the dialog is far from muffled. That's from listening to the DD and HD audio tracks, so it is possible that the mix is a little different for the other audio tracks.

Depends on which version of the film you watch. If its either of the original cinema versions (with the 'happy' ending and the unicorn part removed) then I would say no/maybe.

If its the directors cut, work-print or The Final Cut (which is the main BR version) then I would have to say yes.

What leads me to say yes on these versions is a combination of things, the unicorn scene (which is much longer in the Final Cut that any other version, the lack off/different voice over, Deckard's ability to survive against Roy Batty and that Deckard's eyes glow red very briefly (which all the other replicant's do at some point in the film..

However you can take many of these things and turn them the other way around, no one on the film can agree and while the script was written with Deckard as a human, it was also written to strongly suggest that he could be a replicant.

I did warn you this was one of my favourite films.

Just watched Transporter 3 on Blu Ray. All I will say is that it proves that freckles can be sexy. Sort of. And that accent

has or does anybody plan on going to see Obsessed?

I really want to see it just for The Ali Larter Sex Scenes.:dopey::drool:
It's PG-13, so don't expect much more than what you've seen in the ads. She probably showed more in the pilot for Heroes.

He got his ass BANNINATED! :)

Leatherheads - It sucked. Because it stared two of the most overrated actors of all time.

Well, look at that, he did.

Agreed. I saw it on HBO or something and I wasn't really impressed. The guy from The Office is really only good on The Office. Everything else he does just shows that he only has one character.

I miss my movies!

I just moved back home to Venezuela and not one of the DVD players at home (there's 2) read .avi so I have to go and buy a new one... plus a TV, since I don't have one either. I left home about 8 years ago and sold everything to move to Spain. I'm now back and don't have a thing. I suck.

I would suggest a PS3, as it reads many file formats, but I understand Sony's Latin and South America support is shoddy at best.

EDIT: But that only affects games, which you can import without regional issues.

Definitely, Maybe
Wow this movie was simply stunning. The cast did a great job selling there characters, and portraying feelings well. Im starting to develop a man crush on Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds, who plays the dad is living with his daughter, in the middle of their divorce. He takes back in time and tells his the story of his love life as the daughter tries to figure out which one is her mother. The plot was quite predictable but it truly didn't matter. The character development of Reynolds' lovers was a nice touch as well. This in my opinion was the best movie i have seen this year.

9/10

Slightly off topic, but did Mishka go back to Venezuela with you Diego?

Taken 7.5/10
I was expecting a bit more plotwise. But it turned out to be a pretty straightforward bit over-the-top action movie, which I don't really mind. I recommend it if that is what you are looking for.

Fast and Furious 7/10
This one also turned out different from my expectations. It seemed like they upped the seriousness. For that reason, the focus looked like it was a bit less on the cars and more on the plot. Overall it was better than the other 3, but it wasn't as funny.

South America is part of Latin America, which is all american countries but Canada and USA.

And there's no support from Sony's gaming department at all, at least over here in Brazil there's none.

Which doesn't exist either in Venezuela. One of the problems is that since local prices are stupidly high (around $700 for the 80Gb one), many people either buy them in the US and bring them over, buy them 'hot', or overpay them. IN anycase, it's quite common to have them chipped, since the piracy laws, at least in Venezuela, are a joke.

X-men Origins: Wolverine
This is the first in the series i have seen so theres really is no yardstick it to. To be honest, it didn't really seem all that special. I went into the movie, not caring for the plot and really just focusing on the fights/special effects. There were also moments that you could definitely tell the custom graphic/animations were blatantly fake. The fight sequences were very nice especially the last one. All in all, the movie was enjoyable to watch but i really dont no how well it stacks up with the previous ones.
8/10

You can see my reaction to the new Wolverine title in the thread for the movie. I didn't give it a numerical value there, but I believe a 7/10 would be sufficient.

The gist of my feelings:
Altogether, there were way too many characters attempting to accomplish not a whole lot of story.

Also, my feelings on the franchise (thus far):

X2 > X1 > Wolverine > X3

The Day the Earth stood still

Rent it yesterday, finally got my arse back in town once again. This movie seemed promising, but when a huge guy comes out of a sphere, and the FBI or CIA just takes people with them, and puts them in a chopper for no apparent reason, I knew what time it was: "Hollywood time!" Oh god, no. The story is magical, but the way it's played in the movie is funny at times. I mean, aliens that are reborn as humans, that bring alonh with them a giant robot to kill humankind on planet Earth? Geez... Well, at least Keanu Reeves seemed comfortabl with this kind of a role.

6/10

And to the rental store that didn't have Transformers: Damn you!

Nice review, but thanks for the spoilers :ouch:
(I am yet to see the film)

The way the movie played out, he didn't spoil anything. If you can't see what he posted coming, you've probably been sleeping. And even then you might be able to pick it up.

Keep in mind the movie is a remake of a 1950s classic, so while the SFX might be top notch, the robot monster and the plot might be paper thin.

Joe's Apartment - Perhaps one of my favourite awful films of all time, it's right up there with Starship Troopers. Essentially it's about singing cockroaches and a slob named Joe, who lives in an apartment. Billy West (the Futurama voice guy) and Dave Chappelle both do voices for the cockroaches, along with Jerry O'Connell who plays the lead. The movie is fairly entertaining with almost no real plot. It was the first movie made by MTV films so it wasn't really expected to be good. I enjoy it for it's sheer comic value and that I remember seeing it back in the mid 90's.

My Rating: 8/10....Actual Rating: 5/10

Being a remake of a 50+ year old movie, it is hard to see what he might be spoiling, and nothing he said wouldn't be on the back of the DVD.

Actually, the 1950's version had a much deeper plot.

Transformers

Been wanting to rent this movie since trailers of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen caught my eye. Finally got my hands on it and I really enjoyed the movie. The transforming themselves were eye-candy, and the cars were badass, although some non-American cars would be nice, but hey, "Probably some stuff made in Japan, definitly made in Japan" I liked the fact that there was some balance between action and comedy, with some lines throughout the movie giving me some giggles. Blaster was awesome, and his opening line wasn't any less awesome  But anyway, I loved that old Camaro, I really really loved it so I was kinda dissapointed to see the new Camaro replacing it. I also loved the chasing scene between the old muscle car and the new muscle Mustang cop car. The only thing that I don't liked about the movie were some typical Hollywood scenes were the director seemed to have let his imagination go just a little too far. All that FBI, CIA, army and whatnot. But those robot fights, pure awesomeness 👍 As for the actors, I've rarely seen Shia LaBeouf but I think he played great in the movie. He showed me that he can well fit into many different characters; the nervous nerd, the humurous one, etc. I can't wait to see him shine in Transformers 2. Megan Fox is a beautiful lady, but that Australian blondine blew me right off my chair, although her accent didn't. I liked the story as well, but I've never read or seen any other Transformers material, but oh what the heck. If Transformers 2 doesn't contain those exaggorrated Hollywood scenes (Bollywood?), I think I can prepare myself for one of the better movies I've seen yet 👍

7.5/10

Good, because it is crap if you were there from day one.

My biggest concern with Transformers 2 is they already killed their token black guy robot. Where will they get their offensive stereotypes?
