What WILL you make with a GPS enabled or very detailed track editor?

If the app uses the smartphone's accelerometre, which would record the gravity of the car and g-force pulled, then fix the phone on to a GPS rack, (instead of taping it, why would you do that?!), then it could very well be possible to map the banking of corners, even road bumps.
Recording my cars Gs is pointless. No civilian idiot will drive flat out to get accurate Gs to banking data. Everything will be banked 1 to 5 degrees then. And yes, tape phone to INSIDE of your door, so it doesnt move around in corners and cause a road kink when the data is extrapolated.

I hope we don't have to drive in the middle of an track or road to get the correct GPS data in order to make a proper track in the track editor. If this is the case though it would put a major damper of the feature.
I think you will have to. Remember this is a PS3 thing not a PC app. It'll be quite basic in terms of how the GPS data is used. I'm sure track width will be a part of it, but the path your track follows will likely be the GPS data, so if you're on a track for example, you 'll have to follow the middle of it to get more precision in corner radii. On regular streets it's pretty much not an issue, given you are in one lane and if you keep the phone on the left (or right depending on your country) you can be fairly close to the centre of the road anyway. If PD allows us to independently add some sort of banking it will still be a great deal of fun IMO.

I never got around to using course maker in gt5. Can you use created tracks online with friends? Or is this strictly local play only?

They can be used online yes. Could also be shared on your profile and anyone on your friend's list could scoop it from you too.

Can you do a point to point? I live by the worst section of road in my Province that would gobble up some of those ringer cars.

I'll take my car to a track that's not in the game and drive around it. Boom... I just got Buttonwillow. It would be amazing if you could also upload it online for people to try out. I'd totally download some dude's "Ebisu" that he got from driving around Ebisu.

^ Thats is exactly what I was thinking. If this proves to be a good system i wouldn't mind spend the money going to Buttonwillow, the Fontana Roval, and for fun Adams kart track.

If point to point is possible, then Wrynose and Hardknott pass in the Lake District. I think the gradient change may confuse the hell out of it though :)

There's a seven mile straight of road outside my house that ends with one of those small, steep bridges, imagine the air I could get off that! There's also a small country Road I used to go to as a kid that loops round nearby, pretty angular but has a couple of crests, could make a nice short course.

EDIT: Huh, you know it doesn't look as good from above.

Well, being in Colorado I could do Pikes Peak or Mt. Evans. I'm sure if it's indeed possible that someone out here will try it.

Don't understand how it works, what about the background will it be the same as the real life locations.

what would be even more sick is if we could upload these tracks online for others to enjoy and rate. Sorta like Modnation racers (for those who have playd it)

they haven't said anything about that yet. but that would be sick if they emulated the background as well lmfao. seeing my house in the game would be funny as hell.
but something tells me that won't happen for legal reasons

I don't think that will happen probably they will give us few areas like forest , desert , hills , snow ... something like that

There is a fresh water reservoir near where I live that has some amazing twists and turns that border it, blind corners, decreasers and straights. I am very excited to drive something faster than my tiburon around it.

(It might end up being closer to 20×2020×20 That is still very large - the Nurburgring is about 5×5 kilometers in the game)

5x5 Nurburgring = 20 kms? 20x20 = 80 kms? really?

I can make Sprint track 80 kms! lol.

Can't wait!

If ANY game pulls something off that detailed correctly in the next 10 years, ill eat my Keyboard. Im sure it would take years to make a course maker that did that for every road on earth.

I lived on the countryside and I used to drive around alot to get to friends in other villages:

I used to drive these roads alot when I got my licence to pick up friends visit them etc and after hearing about the GPS functionality of the Course maker this came to my mind. I hope the course maker allows big elevations in the terrain because this is basically driving up a mountain plateau and driving down again !! I cant wait to see whats the course maker is all about
