What WILL you make with a GPS enabled or very detailed track editor?

Is this GPS stuff for defo or has someone just wished for it? Or has pd suggested they might put it in?

"This feature, available at a later stage through an update, will allow you to create your own custom tracks that can be driven in the game. Additionally, in another update we will add the possibility to generate a track by capturing the GPS coordinate data of a mobile app while you are driving that course. This GPS-generated tracks will be available in the game as playable content." - GT6 website.

Thanks for your reply, but that's not what I'm asking as I know what the feature does but thanks all the same 👍

I just received an email explaining the same thing @SlipZtrEm. Pending on the software we'll be able to make minor tweaks to get turns and such, they also noted the geographical mapping in GT6 will play a larger factor in how the tracks lay. If the mapping follows the same formula as the geographical mapping in GT5 it may be somewhat difficult to achieve the results, but if it has a free geographical option that allows slight changes the results may be close but not true to detail.

Knowing this has changed my outlook on this option a little toward the way side.:irked:

ADDITION:

I'm really :irked::irked: now I just received Miller and Watkins.

There is a perfect stretch of road 100 KM from my house, Alot of twists surronded by the sea at one side and mountains the other, hopefully one day I can recreat it.

Im going to make the Lotus test track at Hethel. May have to get several goes around to create both the North and South circuits, the complete circuit, with and without the chicane.

That depends on your definition of "defo". If you mean "definite", then as definite as one can consider a quote directly from GT's official website to be.

I'm at a loss as to how that can be any clearer.

This answers my question and thanks for your help 👍

Some people have mentioned taking raw GPS data and transferring it into the game, or used high quality GPS devices to record routes. This would be great, and of course it remains to be seen exactly how this feature is implemented, but from the admittedly limited official info we've heard so far I get the impression that we will be limited to recording live data into a future GT6 app on a smart device - ie phone/tablet. And that's ok with me.

As stated previously, the official site states it will be done with an app they will provide. Little point in mucking about with other devices and having to convert.

@bodger there is nothing stating they'll be providing any type of app.View attachment 82727 View attachment 82726
I think you need to read the course maker section again. Slowly ;)

Quote from an interview on this site:

"
U.S. Gran Turismo producer Taku Imasaki confirmed the GPS Course Maker apps would work much like many fitness apps available, which record your run or walk by determining your altitude and relative location as you move. GT6 will then translate this data, turning it into a track you can drive in the game."

I was only trying to caution those who are saying they have GPS data for various circuits or were otherwise talking about uploading raw data from outside sources. I doubt that will be an option, though I would be happy to be wrong. Just trying to keep expectations realistic.

But it says "...Additionally, in another update we will add the possibility to generate a track by capturing the GPS coordinate data of a mobile app while you are driving that course."
:boggled::confused::odd::rolleyes:

Now that said, I would like to point out the specific language used here at the end. "...while you are driving that course."

Kinda makes me worries that point to point tracks won't be in the track creator, and that whatever it is we make has to loop back to the beginning.

I think you have a very narrow definition of the word course. It doesn't necessarily mean circuit.

There maybe hope for point to point - it was in the original gt5 course maker before they pulled it. Also, there is Goodwood in GT6...

I couldn't find the statement that you're are quoting @bodger even from the 36 messages from that news post. Even though it a app, that works with phones or tablets it's still going to be a common GPS file. There are data logger on the market now that use common GPS file, which can be transferred from phone to tablet to PC. Also noting with the later addition of vehicle GPS Visualiser which will allow us to look at the CAN data, which may also be common.

We'll just have to wait to see what we're able to do once we receive the update. I've been downloading all the data, I'm going to go and try some of it out. DAYTONA!!

@Rallywagon, @bodger even though this is their statement "Additionally, in another update we will add the possibility to generate a track by capturing the GPS coordinate data of a mobile app while you are driving that course. There is a app they'll provide to make changes to out garages and such away from the PS3 but nothing of providing an app for the GPS feature.

Quote is here :

No doubt it will record GPs coordinates like any other app, but I imagine other data will be captured in a proprietary way that the PS3 GT6 course make will be able to interpret.

All I'm saying is I don't understand the point of using some other app when there will be a whole world of pain to go through to convert it to PD's format.

As I stated before, no doubt someone will figure out PD's file format so that a app can be created to basically create your own track from scratch using faked coordinates and elevation data.

OMG! I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS APP TO BE RELEASED! I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO PUT MY OLD STOMPING GROUNDS RACE "SANDCREEK RD" IN A SIMULATOR AND RUN IT. OH MAN THIS IS GUNNA BE FUN. WE CAN EVEN GO TO OUR LOCAL TRACKS AND GATHER THE DATA TO PRACTICE ON GT6 BEFOR THE WEEKEND TRACKDAYS.

SUPER STOKED FOR THIS!!!

How about telling us what you're looking for then?.

There's so much we don't know about this it's hard to even speculate. I'll be happy with it even without any elevation data but with elevation data will be really unbelievably cool. In order to use elevation data, they'll have to generate custom terrain to surround your track. I have no idea what programming that entails or how hard it is. One thing they could do is offer us up several fixed scenery packages to go with this. Things like City, Mountain, Forest, Countryside and maybe a couple of combinations like City/Forest etc. Sure it wouldn't match our scenery exactly but at least the overall feel of it would be the same:cheers:

Ease off on the caps man, my eyes just went deaf:cool:

@TokoTurismo found this article from AutoWeek about the GPS visualizer, which is now apparently ready (in real life).

http://www.autoweek.com/article/20131113/CARNEWS01/131119940

Some of you won't be happy with this:

Oh, and the biggest problem? We won't get to see this in America. The people at Gran Turismo, perhaps fearing that such technology from exalted Japan would blow our freakin' minds have elected to make the GPS Visualizer available in Japan only.

Good article, but as @TheeFrogmanlego says the "GPS Visualizer" (kind of misleading title) is different from the "Course Maker" GPS functionality. So really this only hurts a handful of Toyota owners that have access to one of GT6's tracks..
Thanks, yes I realize that, I figured everyone would realize the distinction between this and the Course Maker...but probably not...

I think this is the problem with this article; kind of hard to distinguish between the course maker and the visualizer when they say it's only for Japan.

A bit concerning really.

This is the only place I have seen this statement though - official UK and US GT sites have both the visualizer and the gps track creation functions still down as upcoming features...

I can live without the visualizer, but I would be gutted if there was no gps track generation.

A reminder of the fact that neither of these functions could ultimately end up seeing the light of day...

True, one never really knows until it actually appears in the game. These "reporters", and I use the term lightly, are often wrong so you have to take it with a grain of salt really.
