Great Ocean Road is win.

Also, what the hell? Never heard of pie floater.

And you can buy croc meat in local butchers here.... beef textured chicken if you ask me ;)

I've heard of a pie floater.

Did a search to find out where.

wikipedia
The Pie Floater also makes an appearance in the reality-mirroring (albeit a funhouse mirror) Discworld novel The Last Continent by Terry Pratchett, where it is sold by Fair Gos Dibbler, one of a number of similar characters who sell "regional delecacies" across the Disc.

Now Pie floater is something I am well aware of, although I have never had one.

You should! Is the pie van still running outside the train station in the city? They make the best ones (as they were the first)

This is probably one of the best hot dog / pie joints. It's very famous around here with car enthusiasts. Police also love the place with the amount of defects they give out XD

How often do you bump into Brits-on-tour?
Brits-on-tour? You mean Pommie tourists? Pretty much all the time, as I live in a tourist region, where there is planty of work for backpackers. The german backbackers are the best though...very friendly...

Not sure what the current biggest can of beer is, but there used to be 750ml cans of Fosters, Victoria Bitter, & Melbourne Bitter.

In the Northern Territory, they produce what is known as the Darwin Stubby - the beer in it is NT Draught. Normal stubbies (or small bottles) are 375ml, the Darwin Stubby is 2 litres.

Dingos eat 25% of babies in Australia

They live in giant shoes.

Sometimes they wear hats on their feet

It's hot in the winter

33% of aussies are convicts

They don't domesticate dogs, they try to domesticate dingos, which is why so many babies get eaten by them.

They don't put ice cream in cones, they just eat it with their hands.

They don't get ice cream much because napkins are hard to come by.

Their space division has never done well because they power rockets with salami instead of Liquid O2/other means. They can't afford anything fancy. They spent all their money on an opera house that no one goes to because we all know convicts arent classy

Hey. We got these red and yellow bars. They're pretty classy.

I don't know if this is well known either outside Australia. But we lost our Prime Minister once. Harold Holt, our PM at the time, went swimming one day and never came back (I'm not joking).

On 17 December 1967, Holt went swimming at Cheviot Beach on Point Nepean near the holiday resort of Portsea, south of Melbourne. Apparently seeking to impress his friends, Holt, who was 59 and had had a recent shoulder injury, plunged into the surf. He disappeared from view and was never seen again. Despite an extensive search, his remains were never found.

Idiot...

Casio, Love the photo! It would make me homesick if I wasn't already back at home! While elsewhere in Australia has the big pineapple, the big banana, the big peanut to name a few, the yellow bar is known as 'the big chip' in Melbourne - it's on the road that goes to the airport - taxpayers' money well spent there!

If you didn't detect the gobs of sarcasm in that post you should leave.

Settle, I was being sarcastic too, although I suppose I should have put  :P

Northen Australia has many beaches that are deserted, The water is a very nice colour. However in summer we have stinger's and if you go north enough, you have croc's. So you cant swim in them.

Here is an example of a deserted beach. it was 34C that day.

Its only about 30mins drive from my house but its kinda off the beaten track. No body lives near it so while your not legally allowed, nobody is around to give a toss.

Australia is a huge country. Its closer for me to go to NZ then it is to go to the west side of Australia. I can drive 1000km south or north and still be in the same state.

How many shark stories have any of you all heard, and how many if it all have had "proof" to back them up?
Sharks are the least of your worries when swimming in Australia.

Incidentally, shark is one of the most common forms of fish used in Australian fish& chips.
First Aussie Pizza, and now this! Sounds interesting, but is it actually good? I really liked the egg on the pizza. I am definitely doing that again.

Well, I can say that I have never been to Australia, but will be going in October while my mother works there.

My mother went to Brisbane for business a month ago, and she claimed it was more like the US than any other place she has been (she has been to Canada, Mexico, UK, Norway, Sweden, France, German, Austria, Italy, South Africa, Brazil, Australia). She said it was much like Florida. It was winter and 70 degrees and everybody was cold, which is funny because 70 degrees is warm here.

The pictures she took are beautiful. I want to go on the treetop walk that she went on at O'Reilly's.

Flake. It's Gummy shark meat if I'm not mistaken. I haven't eaten it in years (I rarely eat fish), but it's pretty good if I remember.

And yeah. Box Jellyfish scare the **** out of you. Much more then sharks. Most sharks are pretty harmless or just eat you whole, but our jellyfish will torture you. Even our little ones.

wikipedia
Most often, these fatal envenomations are perpetrated by the largest species of box jellyfish, Chironex fleckeri, owing to its high concentration of nematocysts, though at least two deaths in Australia have been attributed to the thumbnail-sized irukandji jellyfish

wikipedia
As of 2006, no antivenom is known. The sting itself is only moderately irritating, the severe syndrome being delayed for 5-120 minutes (30 minutes on average). The severity of pain is apparent in a Discovery Channel show on Carukia barnesi when two researchers (Jamie Seymore and Teresa Carrette) are stung. Even under the "maximum dose of morphine", Teresa remarked that she "wished she could rip her skin off", and is later seen writhing uncontrollably from the pain, while lying on her hospital bed. In a particularly disturbing shot, we see Theresa's feet contorting and digging into the bed. When the camera pulls out to a wide shot, she is rubbing her face, her body is contorting in agony, and her legs are rapidly sliding and kicking around on the bed. Jamie, at his worst, is also seen writhing in pain, curled up like a ball and barely able to speak. Jamie said he wished that he was stung by Chironex fleckeri instead since "the pain goes away in 20 minutes or you die". The pain from Carukia barnesi can last 2 weeks.

Shark (Flake) has white flesh and a subtle non-fishy flavour without the problem of small bones. Quite different to the meat that often goes into shark-fin soups in Asia. Barbequed shark features on my weekly menu during the warmer weather, though the cost is quite high as a result of overfishing. I’m pleased to hear that you enjoyed the Aussie Pizza. :D

Sharks are the least of your worries when swimming in Australia.

No other swimming problems in South Australia except the odd shark attack.

Rays, stonefish, sharp ****ing coral!

Rays, stonefish, sharp ****ing coral!

Rarely a problem, plus most swim on sandy beaches and away from the reefs unless snorkeling.

Blue ring octopus is more of a risk but still rarely a problem.
