What's the worst engine sound in GT5?

The TVR Speed 6 is  sound. No argument. But problem is they just all go a little too generic on engine samples. Try an Aston V12 Vantage with semi-racing instead of racing exhaust. Raceing exhaust wrecks many supercars and it is a real shame.

đź‘Ť

Little too generic is the perfect way of putting it. In FM4, I'd say it does a better job sounding "dynamic", if that's the right word.

The Enzo is pretty bad. Sounds virtually the same as the Ferrar V8s. And that's what bothers me most, the cars that simply have the wrong sounds. The murcielagos sound like Gallardos is another example of this. The GT by citroen road car which in real life has an incredibly throaty V8 sound, has got the sound of a V10 in GT5.

The most disappointing sound has to go to the Sauber C9. Since when did a mighty V8 turn into a buzzing 2 stroke! đź‘Ž Shame, as it is one of the fastest Group C cars at Le Mans.

The same case with the Murcielagos and the Aventador. They do not sound like V12s at all.

Audi R8 LMS Race Car '09, and the "Team Playstation" version.

Both sound like garbage.

Fascinating, tell me how does the garbage sounds. :odd:

Anyways, am I the only one who likes the sound of the C6 ZR1 RM?

Before a recent update the C6 ZR1 RM sounded like the C6 Z06 RM, Corvette C5R, and Camaro Race Car currently do. Go listen to those three cars right now and you'll understand why people ranked the sound so poorly.

Ferrari Scuderia when you choose it in the garage and it starts, it sounds like a bag of spanners being thrown. sounds ok when racing but not quite so on turn over.

But that's how it sounds in real life! If it would sound the same while on track it'd be accurate, though that would be a pretty annoying sound at longer distances too...

The C6 zo6 sounds terrible. Not even terrible for a V8, just terrible period. But I dont like corvettes so it doesnt really matter to me.

Try the stock exhaust, it's the only which doesn't sound like a synthetic sample. đź‘Ť

Anything with Titanium Exhaust...or "fully" customizable tranny.

The problem with the tranny is that they got the audio balance wrong. Sure in some cars it will sound like that BMW whiny video, but in others, the engine and exhaust will eventually drown out the whine. Like most things in life, the tranny whine is not black and white.

THIS.
It's most terrible when using long gear ratios, it feels like the longer your final gear is the more whine you will hear. That's why basically any muscle car in GT5 has a bad sound - you have to install a custom gearbox if you don't want to hit the limiter before 200km/h, but when lowering the ratios the whine becomes louder and drowns out the engine sound. This is worst using hood view. But sometimes you even hear the damn transmission in 3rd person view. :ouch:

I have never understood these engine sound complaints. All the cars sound different to me. btw, my entertainment center makes a strange vibrating noise somewhere in it. It only occurs when I drive a car in GT5.

Because most tuning exhausts in GT5 are synthetic samples which do sound like synthetic samples. Or they are just far off what the cars should sound like.
In most cases stock exhaust will do. But sometimes there's a louder, good sounding exhaust upgrade that actually sounds better - you most likely need to try all available if you really want to find the best sound.

I don't hear anything wrong with the S-Type. My stock one has a good throaty growl. I'm not sure what you mean!

Same here! But it depends a bit. If you drive it with stock transmission (as it's simulated as an automatic) with smooth gear changes and keep it at low revs, it's quite nice. As soon as you rev it past 5,000RPM it's terrible unrealistic.
Never tried any exhaust besides stock on this car, might try out sports. On some other cars like the SRT-10 Vipers sports actually sounds a lot better than stock.

Mclaren Mp4-12c sounds pretty bad, though there are a few worse.

Agree, this has been my first thought too when I read the tread title. The stock sound is basically just a light undefinable sound with a loud turbocharger swapped over it, while any exhaust upgrade is a terrible computer generated sound which doesn't sound like a car at all.
I had started a Route X top speed tuned MP4-12C project and decided to give it up because of the sound.
Stock sound = :ill:
Stock sound with custom transmission: :ill::ill:
Racing exhaust (required for full power) with custom transmission = :yuck:

Hmm, any small capacity engine fitted with a CVT. It doesn't sound to bad to others but when YOU drive it, the engine is maxed out the whole time! It sounds like this mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Like a bee on roids. It can get pretty fatiguing. Not so bad on replays and such cause the car comes and goes but if your in the drivers seat, Mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

This is pretty true! As GT5's sound becomes louder the harder you push the throttle it's a constant loud 5,000RPM reving... or higher... TERRIBLE!

As soon as you add a racing transmission it ruins the sound of any car. :dunce:

Sadly this is very true. :(

I'd have to say the i-Miev is the worst I've heard, but some cars have really badly wrong sounds, that ruin the immersion, usually titanium exhaust is the worst for this and unfortunately when you RM a car you have no other choice of exhaust, so you have to live with the wrong sound out of the car.

Plus, when you put racing modifications on your car, you can't use a stock non-whining transmission...

Oh and any of the electric cars sound very appealing when driving them fast. The Leaf is... still acceptable because it's not as high reving but the Tesla, i-Miev and the others are pretty annoying.

My supercharged Ford GT sounds like a sewing machine. That can't be right.

Use stock exhaust and it will sound like a light version of the real GT. đź‘Ť

My feeling of Sound in GT5 is that the cars have some piece of sound thats always the same on every car đź‘Ž

Dont know howto explain it better, but every car sounds the same in some piece of soundsystem, they all are doing the same noise in a different way, very disappointing...

dident found a car (having ~150 cars, driven every) that sounds very realistic in GT5, but the Soundengine was (sadly) never PD`s thing...

My two cent`s...

Hmm, do you tune your cars? If so, try some of the cars mentioned in other threads as best sounding ones and use them stock. Well, without transmission and exhaust modifications at least. Should sound a lot better.

My favorite car the '10 camaro sounds like a honda civic :(

Really? I drove my Camaro SS recently and it sounded pretty good, at least at low to mid range revs. I used stock exhaust and transmission.
By the way, did anybody know that the Camaro has an incredible overdrive coming stock? I drafted it up to 480 km/h on Route X and it still was far from the limiter in 6th. I'd say 500 is possible with some bumping, still without hitting the limiter.

...
Any Corvette or Camaro with race exhaust: It's like my ears are being raped. :guilty:

Any Subaru with a race exhaust: It sounds artificial and lifeless. :nervous:

Mitsubishi iMiev: I've heard babies with cries that aren't as high pitched as the noise that comes from this car. The CIA should classify this sound as a form of torture. :scared:

Ferrari 599 with race exhaust: Probably the most annoying exhaust note I have ever heard.

In general the race exhaust just screws up whatever good sound a car could have had. :guilty:

Some standard Subarus have nice stock sounds though! Try the Impreza Sport Wagon '00 for example, the stock exhaust is a nice light sound... while the racing exhaust sounds exactly the same like the racing exhaust on the 458 Italia does

The 599 with racing exhaust indeed sounds horrible. But when you use the stock one it's amazing! Especially at mid range revs.

Have a stock exhaust paired with a racibg gearbox is terrible. The god damn gear box is so damn obnoxious, you can barely hear the exhaust over the excessive whining of the tranny.

Agree. đź‘Ť

McLaren MP4-12C. I have never heard such a pathetic twin-turbo V8 in my life.
...
Give me a Ferrari 458 Italia or Lamborghini Gallardo any day over the McLaren.

Yes, as I wrote above the sound of the MP4-12C is terrible using any exhaust.
What I also agree about is that the MP4-12C in GT5 is way worse than the Gallardo and 458, at least the stock version. It's missing the car's real perfect traction control system for example which ends up in a terrible oversteer without and understeer with light aids. That and the sound make it very non-enjoyable.

Any person that fits a Titanium Racing Exhaust to a Ferrari should be shot imo.
Jk, but the screech they make is mind-bogglingly bad.

Same about the Murciélago and Aventador!! :ouch:

I honestly can't think of any other word to describe this noise

As TheEnd35000vr said above, racing exhausts on Ferraris always end up in a terrible sound, in GT5 at least. Try the stock version yourself and see if it sounds better.

Right "with racing exhausts"

Mclaren f1
Lamborghini Murcielago
Ferrari 458
Audi R8 5.2

all sound the same đź‘Ť

Damn you must drink a lot of beer!

Wrong... your post is utterly wrong! The McLaren F1 and Murciélago sound terrible with racing exhaust, besides the fact that noobs with gold chromed fully tuned versions of these cars are around everywhere in GT5 lobbies. :yuck:
And by the way, the 458 and R8 both have different racing exhaust sounds. They aren't all the same.

The Spitfire and a couple of other small cars I can't remember off hand, sound like someone gargling...I'm pretty sure that's not accurate or at least I hope not.

Wait, did you mention Spitfire? In a thread that is called "worst sounding cars"?! :irked:

Seriously, try it with stock exhaust and enjoy DAT sound!

Add the Lamborghini Murcielagos. None of the exhausts sound like a V12 :(

Yes... it's too bad but none of GT5's exhaust are equal to the real Murciélago sound. Stock is taken from the Gallardo (where it rather fits...) and the others are synthetic, not matching the car or :censored:ed up. Especially the racing exhaust. :ouch:

It has it's unique racing exhaust sound and it's not too synthetic, is it? Been some time since I drove it but I remember I was quite impressed from the powerful engine sound.

...
Try an Aston V12 Vantage with semi-racing instead of racing exhaust. Raceing exhaust wrecks many supercars and it is a real shame.

This.
When I use my Vantage with semi racing exhaust in online lobbies people keep asking which exhaust version I use and use it too then :)

the 300c and land rover concept (fully tuned) both have the same sound. its horrible. ultra low frequency. sounds like a tuba, or some kind of fart machine. i always laugh when i hear it

I had the racing exhaust installed on my Range Rover quite some time now and was satisfied, but out of boredom I recently changed it to stock, went on track in free drive (in a lobby) and was like... WOW! Especially in 3rd person that thing sounds amazing with stock exhaust. So that might fix it for you if you are tired of racing exhaust.

Before a recent update the C6 ZR1 RM sounded like the C6 Z06 RM, Corvette C5R, and Camaro Race Car currently do. Go listen to those three cars right now and you'll understand why people ranked the sound so poorly.

Does that mean they changed/patched the ZR-1 RM sound? Then I'll quit spamming this thread with tons of text and try mine now :dopey:

Sorry for the amount of text, needed to kill half an hour of my free time and tried to show that there are people who actually read all the replies to this thread

Worst sound in the game, I can come up with only one, and that title goes for the Cadillac Cien, though I've never heard the real one so I cant really say does it sound like that or not.
But, since I got my driving license I've been driving with decent amount of cars in my life, and what is more than wonderful is that some of those cars are also in GT5, I have to defend GT5 quite abit because those cars I have driven in real life, on traffic / racing tracks, these sound pretty damn accurate, considering the fact no in-person experienced thing will ever sound like in virtual world, ever. Reason is very simple, an engine, or the exhaust doesnt have "speakers" on these, they just sound, and therefore it would be impossible to capture the actual sound you would hear in real life and convert that into digital form to sound 100% like that from speakers, no matter do you have 2-channel or 7.1 DTS.

Few cars I've driven in real life that can be found in GT5 are

VW 1200
VW Sambabus
Triumph Spitfire
Volvo 240 Estate
Ferrari F430 (spider tho)
Jaguar E-Type
Jaguar XFR
Toyota Corolla AE86 (sprinter)
VW Golf GTi Mk I
VW Polo GTi
Opel Vectra
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI
Subaru Impreza WRX STi '99

Few I've driven, and so far I can tell, sounds are 85% correct, due to the fact it is a totally different to hear car sounds in person than from the virtual world, period.

As already said in previous pages, if you start up the Calsonic R32, Minolta AND the JGTC Diablo, you will hear te SAME sound, try it by yourself.
But to the i-Miev almost made my ears bleed.

The I miev sound like a Nissan leaf and it twice as slower then a prius

Once upon a time long long ago there was a Lexus IS RC and then there was an update that RUINED it!! :-(

Pause at 0:45.

It appears 3 people work on sound simulation.

I also counted the number of car modelers; I counted 28. But that seems far too small. I remember Kaz saying that most of the staff models car...but 28/144 seems too small, right?
