The gt omega wheel stand is now sold out on their website and amazon uk, iam pleased to say i bought the very last 1.Bad news is they say it wont be back in stock until 9/6/15. all assembled and have to say, i can see why its so popular, for me its even better than the wheel stand pro.

Sorry for blurry phone pics, as it is currently, I will run the tape measure over the table top when I am home next ;)

A big shout out to @Clevohead for all his help and endless PM's helping me build my own table top for my Obutto rig. You can see his custom design at the top of the page.

I just preordered an Ozone and would love to do something similar to the mod that you guys did. I'm interested in it for two functions:
  1. Hard mounting my G27 (there aren't predrilled holes in the factory platform, correct?)
  2. Having a place to store some of my game controllers, headset, phone, etc.
I just have a couple of questions. I don't really prefer driving in the recommended racing posture. I prefer having my arms stretched with my chair leaning back versus having my elbows tucked at 45 degree angles and my back 90 degrees straight up from my legs. I'm also not sure what type of monitor upgrade I am going to do (27" 1440p or 34" ultrawide).

I know that the vertical positioning of the wheel platform is directly proportional to the horizontal position of the wheel platform(stock). You mitigate that with horizontal positioning of the seat. I'm slightly worried about being too cramp or having one aspect of the fit be slightly off by this two-dimensional positioning being tied to one another. In your estimation- would a mod similar to your's allow for for custom horizontal positioning based on the build of the platform. Basically- could I set the wheel height, pedal distance and horizontal chair positioning and then build out the platform for the most ergonomic fit for me? Or, in your estimation, Is this overkill?

Second, I have a desktop (non-tower) ATX form factor PC I plan to use. Any Ideas where to put this or are there any mounting options you might suggest? I could switch to a tower case if I needed to.

Thanks!

The G27 does not have pre drilled holes. Here is a link for templates to aid you in mounting your wheel, pedal and shifter.

The Ozone does not have a separate vertical / horizontal adjustment. Depending on your design and building skills, you should be able to customize a table top to your requirements. If I was to move the wheel towards the monitor, I gain in distance to streach out my arms but at the same time the wheel drops to a lower position. You could fabricate a riser to match the exact measurement of the base of the wheel and then attach the wheel giving you the vertical height you require. Or you could add a riser directly to the factory steering plate therefor rising the entire table top.
Overkill, no way. This is your rig, only your deign and building knowledge will hinder your outcome. I say go for it.

As far as the desktop PC goes, Without knowing the foot print of the PC any recommendation is at best, just a shot in the dark. Here are a few thoughts. One quick option if space permits, would to make the table top larger behind the monitor. Another option would be to place the PC behind the chair. Maybe under the monitor or off to one side towards the back.

Good luck. If you have any more questions, just ask.

Either way, it is probably something I want to wait for the Ozone to get here before I begin, correct (in order to get the platform properly aligned with the monitor stand)?

@jughead . I would probably wait as well. In the mean time you can scribble, draw and just go crazy with ideas. The set up will take a few hours or more, so be ready. This will also be a good time to find some large cardboard sheets. It is a lot less expensive and easier to cut cardboard than wood. Using cardboard template as Clevohead suggested was the without a doubt the best advise.

Hi, im relatively new to racing with wheels, and I have been given a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel to start with. Looking for a stand and I have come across two options:

http://www.wheelstandracing.com/

http://wheelstandpro.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=61

Am just wondering if the price difference is justified, and also will be upgrading to a thrustmaster wheel. Is the WheelStandRacing a good stand, i know WSP are good and dont mind spending the money but if the difference is so small i would rather go for the cheaper option.

The wheelstandracing is more than half the price of the pro. 100. vs 39.99. You say you are new to this wheel racing, so in that case i would have to say try the cheaper stand. This way is you find you do not like the wheel racing you have not lost to much money. Then if you find you have become addicted to racing a new wheel and upgraded stand will be worth the larger investment.
Another option would to buy used, possibly save some money. It is pretty hard to abuse a wheel stand. Lastly have you considered a home made stand to begin with? Many ideas and plans are easily available.

I've currently got a home stand built well it's on my desk but i prefer playing on stands. I had a look on Ebay and i have found 2 deals that seem interesting, but not 100% sure if it's worth it, i do wanna change the Logitech Driving Force GT i own feels like its going to break under load, and seeing as i will be playing driving simulators a lot want to get a semi decent wheel. Heres the 2 options:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Prologic-...100?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f4d03f304

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Logitech-...654?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f4cf54376

Thanks for the help!

The second one with the G27 looks like a great price. Good luck.

Also be aware some newer racing sims on PS4, Project Cars, at the moment do not support the Logitech wheels. Hopefully this will change in time. So if you plan to play Project cars on a PS4 I would skip the G27. If you plan to play sim racing games on the PS3, then a G27 is the number one choice.

I can't take the credit for this as another user found this on either this forum or another. I couldn't find that thread for the life of me so I'm just posting this link. Seems like a decent stand for someone who needs something and that it can easily be put away. I probably would of had one if I didn't own a Playseat Playseat
http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-Flip-Top-Portable-Work-Support-AC9934/100618242

LOL....... That was my first stand. Really.

It served a purpose and was actually not that bad. Had some wobble. I remember taking out the pole and rotating 90 degrees so the feet were in a better position.

Snagged a 3'x4' sheet of 3/4" plywood today. They didn't have 2x3.

I plan to do something similar but I'd like to be able to lower the wheel+top out of the way when I'm playing other games. Does that mean I will want to cut longer slots so there is enough room to account for the monitor stand uprights when lowering? Also, how did you guys account for slack that is created in the cables when adjusting the position of the steering wheel plate? Finally, I have a g27 wheel and pedals and a new (!) clubsport SQ shifter. I'm planning to upgrade gradually. Do you see any pitfalls for hard mounting, say, a T500 to the same table at a later date?

Moving wheel. Cutting longer slots is an option to move the wheel lower. Sit in the rig to make sure the lowered base does not touch your legs. As suggested before, get some cardboard to use as a template to determine if cutting longer slots resolves your issue. Another option would be to raise the monitor by moving the uprights or relocate the actual height support behind the monitor. Raising the monitor eliminates the need to cut longer slots. Also think about a combination of both options.
Wires. I have my wires attached to the wheel and lie them across table top. Have yet to drill a hole to hide away the wires. I do not move my wheel, so wire slack is not an issue I need to resolve. Raising the monitor stand or support would also resolve any wire issue.
T500. No pitfalls. Only issue would be drilling new mounting holes. The old mounting holes may show but that is a minor issue to me if I was to be able to upgrade to a T500.

Thanks! Great advice. I just set a price tracker on the T500 (<$400) but will keep my eye on fanatec as well. If I go that route, it will certainly be a longer road.

Hello

So, im still rocking my g25 with the g25 wheelstandpro.
Ive held onto it because i hoped that we will someday see g25 support for ps4 games.
With the g29 hitting the market, i fear that logitech will not provide drivers for g25/25.
If that indeed will be so, i wanted to ask if someone knows what current wheels would fit onto my g25 wheelstandpro?
Does anyone know?

Obviously the G25 G27 and with some modification almost all of them. I suggest attaching a piece of board or metal to the current base in the correct size of your new wheel. Then you would simply attach the wheel to the new base.
For example you could easily attach a 12x12 inch board to the base with screws or nuts and bolts. Then you would attach the new wheel to the board. Good luck.

Is it worth the money getting a Playseat? I'm currently deciding on whether to get a Thrustmaster T300 on its own or whether to get it with a race seat.

I have a firm enough seat now that I used for my G27, but it wasn't that comfortable. I feel like this could be the last piece of the puzzle for similar racing! I don't really know if I want to lash out €650 on one though. I thought I'd be spending €250 on just a wheel but the Sterling exchange rate and lack of supply meant that it would nearly be worth my time getting the two together.

Is it worth the money? Each person has their own value of money. Some women would not think twice of dropping 300. on a pair of shoes. I have upgraded to a full rig with my G27 and the only regret is I did not do it sooner. No more pulling out the folding camping chair and trying to get the same position with my old wheel stand.

You could try and save some money by buying a second hand rig. I bought my Obutto second hand and saved well over $200.00US. As far as the T300, I should be receiving mine in a week. I was unable to find one used that I thought was worth the money. Here in the states I found one on sale for $310.

If you think dropping over $100. on a bottle of Whiskey, or $200. on a pair of sneakers is worth it, then by all means find a package deal for a rig and wheel. If you prefer a pint and bare feet, then I would take the time to look around and buy used.

 Well put. :gtpflag:

I understand, I should have been more specific in my post. It was a sort of knee-jerk post as I'm currently really confused as to what to do. Part of me says that I'll have no better use of my money, while I also realise that I'm making a huge investment just for a pastime. Thing is, is I have to buy a PlayStation Four and Project Cars yet as well.

Darragh,

I'd simply consider how much you play racing games, and how much you plan on playing in the future. As a gaming hobbyist (table top and PC) I have invested about $700 in my current "expensive cheapskate" racing set-up. While it seems expensive, I've spent more on a handgun before.

I thoroughly enjoy racing and it definitely makes it more entertaining. If you buy something, even something a bit on the cheap side you may well be enjoying it 4-5 years from now, if not more. I haven't gone with a full rig (currently using a modified stand with add-ons) because I live in a small apartment and am prone to moving.

Start with the wheel on the desk...then move on from there if you think the game/enjoyment warrants it. Only thing I'd be careful about are cheap seats. You'll be sitting in the darn thing and if it's crap uncomfortable you won't enjoy it.

Thanks for the advice. I suppose this will last a couple of years, and I might as well think of it as an asset rather than an expense. I've been sitting on a leather couch with my G27, and it wasn't always the most comfortable!

I think that if I get a seat with it, I'll be best to get it in a bundle. Thrustmaster wheels are inflating by the day, but at least the bundle with a Playseat and Thrustmaster wheel is somewhat reasonably priced - roughly €350 fir the wheel and €300 for the seat.

I agree, I don't think it's best to rush out and look for a cheap seat. This one seems proper and tot great reviews from it. I think I will buy it, I should be getting a nice inflow of cash soon as well!

I finished building my pedal box for the Ozone rig I've been putting together. It certainly isn't a thing of beauty and I definitely had some mounting issues related to building the box just a little too big, but it sturdy and very ergonomic. It is similar to other projects on here and around the web. I used U-Bolts to mount to the cockpit and bolts for the pedals. I used 1/2" plywood for the pedal mounts and 1/4" plywood for the protective facade and 1"x2" poplar board for the spacer in between. I only covered the facade with carbon fiber tape but would certainly put it all over if given a second oppurtunity. As I plan to eventually upgrade my wheel and pedals to clubsport, I didn't want to put in too much time.

I should have taken more pictures but I was preoccupied with my 3 month old for the duration of the build. If anyone is interested in duplicating (and improving) this build, feel free to ask me any questions about possible pitfalls.

Now on to the table top mod...
