I recently bought this:
Took about 3 weeks to get to me due to a postage mix up at their end, but was easy to put together and works beautifully for my driving skills.
I can't tell you how good it feels to have my G27 shifter SOLIDLY sat in it's housing, instead of me constantly pulling from it's clamped position on my computer desk
I do love the ad above, listing "SUPERB RACING SKILLS DISPLAYED" as part of it's "features"
It has improved my manual gear shift driving, but i'd be a fool to say it's made my "skills" superb !
The images show the hand brake etc, on the R/H side, but mine are actually on the L/H side, which is handy as i live in England.
Tho you can't swap sides, be warned, other worldwide drivers. You'll be stuck with British/Japanese side driving. Unless I am mistaken on this and you can buy the stand with both options perhaps ? My one has two dials, either side of the driving pedals plate, but they seem to be of no consequence, because the pedals plate is welded in place. As far as I can tell, it cannot slide from side to side, sadly. I am pretty sure the dials are to swap the handbrake/gearshift arm and table from side to side, tho that'd be stupid, if you can't move the car pedals to the other side too. My only conclusion is that it must come in two sided editions maybe ?
I wish you could adjust the height of the plate that you sit your pedals onto, as i'd prefer to make mine lean at a steeper angle, but it's still ay ok. I can no doubt build something to sit under the pedals and raise them further anyway.
I would say to not worry about build quality tho as it is VERY solid and secure. Height and length adjustable too, for those with longer legs, tho, i like my setup kinda low slung, as it were, which means i might have to open up my G27 wheel and take out the clamps, so i stop banging my knee against the R/H side clamp, when accelerating/braking. The company, rather nicely, supply dial ended screws that fit your G27 equipment crew holes perfectly, so you can clamp in all your stuff easily and no need to have to fuss around unscrewing them at a later date, thanks to the dials on the end of said screws
Hand brake works, but i rarely ever use the handbrake in GT6, so it is just a nice addition and not essential for my driving style. It's a small chip with one end being USB ( to the PS3 - provided in packaging ) and the other a small connector from the handbrake itself. the computer chip has all the DS3 buttons marked on it, so you just connect that to the "O" button ( i have that as the handbrake ) and then put the USB into the PS3. Cool that you can assign any of the DS3 buttons, so it doesn't need to mess up your preferred handbrake setting. There isn't much resistance in the handbrake itself. I feel i should upgrade to a much stiffer spring. Fortunately it could be easily done, as the spring, itself, is pretty easily accessible. You have to push in the button, like a real car, to pull on/off the handbrake, at least which is a cute little feature and appreciated, rather than it be just some arm that lifts on it's own.
The side table part, where the hand brake and gear shift sit, can be adjusted forward or backward in 5 increments. Mine is sat 2 from the very furthest holes, meaning it can come back further toward you by a good 3 to 4 inches still. Useful if you feel the handbrake might be getting in the way of your gear shifting elbow.
I don't have the optional bucket seat, just using a comfy office chair, with the wheels removed, so i don't move the chair backward when i push the pedals
( gteye brake mod installed and original brake pedal spring transferred to the clutch ) .
Price, i guess mid-range. Before Christmas 2013, these were only £115 + £8ish postage on Ebay, but are now £183 plus more postage, which is my fault for dithering too long on whether i should get one or not. Quite a jump in price regardless.
I'm sure there are many better ones out there, but i found this particular stand to be working out just great for me so far. It's genuinely solid, as everything is bolted together and not flimsily sat in a housing where it might wobble somewhat. I was genuinely nicely surprised, when i had constructed it and found out to have not blown my money on a whim after all
My one, is specifically for G25/27 wheels, and the screw holes for clamping the wheel, gear shift and pedals are drilled as such.
It's slightly on the bulky side, but i think it only adds to the solid feel. With the way i have set up, it measures around 700mm across by 1100mm in length. I have no idea how tall that super cute Thai girl is in the above photos, but i'm 5.10" and it doesn't feel small to me, other than i have the wheel tray set a bit low ( hence the knee banging, but that's the G27 clamp protruding ). Maybe add another 100mm or so, if the handbrake/gearshift table is fully extended.
Plus, add the depth of your TV table/stand on top of that of course. I have my 48" LED ( so it's pretty damn slim ) sat on a table, in front of the IronRax stand, adding another 340mm ( table depth ). I'm just listing these measurement, incase anyone interested in one, needs to work out how much space they have at home, before buying one. 👍
