Those numbers almost means nothing put next to each other...

Is $1 today the same as $1 of 1969 ?

What is the reference of the 81 for GT6 with 96 for GT1 ?

Metacritic is not stranger to the rules of relativity.

Those numbers are taken out of their contemporary context.
GT6 has to share scores with FM5, when GT1 didn't have to ;)
And that's the whole point of the initial question in the OP...

    • Please vote on the basis of the time each GT was launched.

Nobody would argue that GT1 is actually better in every way than GT6...has to be judged against the competition at the time.

The meta critic numbers are from review scores as they were, back in the day. Comparing Gt1 against Forza 5 would be daft.

Content is king! More = better.

That's why even if it was a best seller and a really beautiful game, I can't stand GT3 much because it felt small in some ways...

I could not believe when I first read at a magazine that GT2 would have 597 cars.

Imagine that in 1999. Mindblowing!

Not always GT6 is the best example right now 1200 cars about half of those most people don't give a rat's *** it's what you do with it(Content) that makes a game great, and that's what GT1-4 did.

GT4 actually did have online functionality, it just didn't release to a large market. They sent out a full GT4 disc with every car unlocked, online lobbies, and 99million (or something ridiculous) credits. It worked pretty well, but they never produced it. This came out after GT4 released.

Is that your Beta disc?

Interesting to see that the second GT on each console is more popular than it's predecessor. I expected that though. :D

Just like you said it's too be expected. Because GT1, 3, and god forbid 5 is like playing the original game until it gets it's GOTY or massive DLC overhaul with 2 and 4 and now 6.

Still though if not taking into account like most recent releases still going with 3 followed by 4, but if I did play GT2 and GT1 they both would probably rank higher.

One reason I put GT3 higher is I remember the Rally Races and the fact you did need an R license and getting license's were actually fun on that one, and made me learn a lot actually.

Last is SSR11 and SSR5 loved those tracks.

For it's time, definitely GT2. Had enough cars to make your friggin' head spin. Still a respectable number by today's standards.

Only thing it was missing was SSR11.

GT2 was the best because it was simply the best car game i have ever played! It anchored my definition of what a car game should at least be.

GT4 was the best because i had put so much time into it. It was a true successor to GT2. GT4 combined the technical advancement brought by the GT3, and put the content of GT2 into it. To this day, i still haven't finished playing GT4.

I had a grand time with GT5P and still enjoy GT5 while waiting for Santa to bring me GT6.

I would say GT5P and GT5 are also the best games i have been playing the past 3-4 years!
But i also live in a bubble, where NFS and Forza have not reached my door. Therefore my judgement could be impaired a bit.

When all considered and while looking at FM5 and GT6 via the reviews and the feedback brought on this site, i believe those games are also solid performers...

But we are here to answer OP questions, and in that regards, IMHO, i would say GT4 is currently the best GT ever.

If GT7 could combine all the best aspects for its previous 6 iterations, along with the best aspects from all their competitors... then GT7 will be the crowning champ. Still so much hope for GT7. GT7 will be having the greatest expectations of any PD games! Unless GT8 will be the one to be having that duty as the "even" second game of a console... Guys, we are 5-6 years away from Greatness.... Greatness awaits indeed !

3 and 4 were the best, the PS2 era was where Gran Turismo peaked.

GT3 did somethings better, GT4 did others better and had more content. Hard to pick between them.

GT1 was great too, but limited. GT2 was ruined by the strongest rubber-banding in the series (at least before GT6). The PS3 games just don't compare when comparing single player modes, but they do have online which is good.

I doubted between 1 and 3; 1 because it seemed like, up until then, it had never been done so properly on consoles before and it was really mindblowing for it's days. I got to know all sorts of Japanese cars i never heard of before and the whole game felt like it had endless posibilities to keep yourself busy and have fun.

But i voted 3 because, although it was the version with the least cars; the whole game had a true next gen feeling as PD bothered to upgrade almost every aspect and the experience was really enjoyable as a whole.

Then it all went downhill from 4 onwards...

The bold describes me when it comes to GT3 and GT4 got real close think I was 75% in GT3 about 80% in GT4 that was over the course of a year, or more in GT3 case.

Really the career modes were long, or at least I extended them by not playing GT3 or GT4 everyday.

It has to be GT4. That game was just everything to me. The immaculate presentation, the breadth and variety of content. Nothing will ever top it.

GT1 was just jaw dropping when it was released. Nothing could hold a candle to it. But all in all I have to go with GT4 for the reasons mentioned above. I played GT4 literally for years. It was the game that just kept on giving.

You're forgetting about the game there.
Ahhh but the physics is the game to me. Greatest "game" is nothing without the best physics and with good physics I can make my own game, online or off. I'm as nostalgic as the next guy but earlier GT physics cannot compare for me.

I went with six based on potential and I really like the new tire physics. I was shocked to see how poorly 5 is doing in the poll.

GT2 was what brought into the series indefinitely. Gt1 wasn't that much fun to me as compared to GT2. But I had to vote for GT4 as the best game in the series as far as what it did a launch. I remember thinking that Gt4 had basically next gen graphics at the time. The fun factor I think was best in the series. GT5 was good in the fun factor for a while but got boring to me. I feel like I could still hop on GT4 and STILL have races to do, which I appreciate as far as content. Anyone remember the 1-lap magic?

It was a very hard choice to choose between 4 and 6. Just because 6 has online features and better physics I chose 6.
I really enjoyed 4 though.

I actually thought PSP's was the best. You basically made your own races with the cars you chose, and best of all: you got paid large credits for doing so. This made grinding for credits much less tedious than in GT5 or 6 - you got paid to test out new cars. And of course I could take it on the go. ;)

Indeed, GTPSP's structure was nice, but it was basically just Arcade mode with credit payouts. So you know what they should do? Add credit payouts to Arcade mode, and bam. You've got the best of both worlds.

Voted GT6, because it's amazing. And has probably some of the quickest load times of any GT game in recent memory... certainly quicker than all the PS2 incarnations, and way quicker than the painfully slow GT5.

Interesting, it's a toss up between GT4 and GT6 for me. Voted GT4 'cause no standard/premium issues. The UI in GT4, though almost completely nullifies that. Seriously, the GT6's UI is perfect. They shouldn't mess with it too much going forward. GT2 is definitely third...again, it's UI was terrible. They took the awesomeness of the GT2 and 4 and added Tourist Trophy's super simple UI style and boom. GT6.

OP please don't tell me how to vote
Not intended.
Let`s say in my OP criteria are like more than a suggestion than a must. I could have put it in other words...

"Don`t compare GT1 with GT6 on the basis of graphical standards and considering they are running on "slightly" different machines."

You might have notived this "[Enter your own reason in thread]" as well.

-------------

I`m really impressed. No heated discussion. Just an objective debate with good (individual) arguments. Some make me wanna unbox my PS2 and play GT4.👍

Probably would have voted GT3 but I never owned a ps2 until GT4 came out, so I voted GT4.

GT5 and GT6 are both better games (more cars, more tracks, better physics, better graphics) but for some reason GT4 just felt more complete, and it was the first to introduce the nordschleife :)

Game element wise as a decent challenge and size of it, I would go for GT4. GT6 for me is probably the worst game as an offline challenge, only played it for first two days, might go back playing it again and see if there is something challenging about it. The games only hope is updates.
