Who is still going to play gt4 when gt5 comes along

It's true. The "first generation" PS3 (ie. the 20 and 60 GB models) were indeed able to play PS2 games. The "second generation" PS3 (ie. the 40 and 80 GB models) has had the capability removed.

I bet if they cut the fat off the PS3 and kept it strictly a game system, the price would be much lower.

What fat? The Hard Drive? Couldn't do that, because the system relies on it. The software? What good would that do? Replacing the internals with less capable stuff will just affect gameplay, making older games useless.

IMO, the PS3 has very little "fat" to speak of, it just used an expensive new technology. The price has already gone down 200 bucks. Its a much better deal.

I abandoned GT4 in May of '05, but not because of GT5 or the PS3, which I can't afford and won't even consider buying until it costs $200 or less.

I still occasionally play GT3.
Ah. So that's why you never participate in our GT4 competitions on GRM.

If the series follows form then GT5 will have less cars and a more basic structure than GT4, similiar to GT3's relationship with GT2.

Hopefully this will not be true and GT5 will go above and beyond GT4, in which case, I would switch to GT5. However if it is merely a prettier dumbed down version as GT3 was, then I will wait for GT6.

As for the Ps3 debate going on here, the system really is phenomenal, I have used every aspect of it so far, and I personally am glad that it included cool extra features. As for the new one's (I have the 60gig Us version)not playing ps2 games, who really cares, don't we all already own Ps2'S???

Does the fact that you buy a new system force you to through out your old one?? I keep my Ps2 right next to my Ps3 so I can switch back and forth because I play GHII on the ps2 all the time as well.

the 200 bucks was a bit of fat because wasn't it a HD reduction.?

An HD Reduction isn't "fat". "Fat" is removal of something un-needed. Like maybe if the PS3 had like 2 HDMI plugs, had a 6 Disk changer... That would be fat.

Actually, I don't really go to the GRM boards anymore. :ouch: I had a hard time relating to most of the members. Nothing against them, just not really my crowd.

I agree with tophaticent, there is very little that is "fat" in the PS3, most of the features are possible because of what they needed for the gaming. I think they kind of went, "OK, we want to do all this with gaming, what could we also use this software/hardware at the same time for?"

The PS3 is a well-rounded machine and I am glad that I got mine and will no doubt be going to GT5 providing it doesn't suck (I doubt it).

Even after you bought a Miata? heh

Err, how many people have actually put me on their ignore list? :dopey:
Well... no. It's the damn expensive Blu-Ray drive and the chipset that are building up the price, and both of those are needed for running the games. Taking out the music support and the DVD movie support would be just a matter of writing new software code, which would actually mean more work, more pay for the workers, and ultimately a higher price. They could also take out the web browser, but as the web connection would still be needed for online playing it would be a similar case.

The bottom line: there is no pricey extra hardware to be taken out, so why not use the current hardware to the maximum?

I don't own a PS3 and have no immediate plans to buy one.

That being said, I also have not even fired up GT3 once since the night that GT4 was released in the US.

I also have about 600 vinyl record albums, and never ever listened to a single one since the day I bought my first CD player.

I have a Ps3, and I agree with your other statements. Once GT5 comes out, I doubt I'll ever look back to GT4, aside from random nostalgic moments, when I bust out old games like jade cocoon, gt1 & gt2, and Ridge racer.

But how often do you use your PS2 to watch movies or listen to CD's?

See, I think that is where Sony screwed up. Not everyone is looking for a multimedia do anything system. I for one have no interest in Blu-ray players, or have any interest in surfing the internet in my living room. I already have a computer that does most of that. I also have a DVD player w/ surround sound that also is a tuner and cd player.

The only thing I want my game system to do is play games. Sounds silly huh?

sory mate i cant agree with this

i use my ps2 daily to watch dvd's as its in my bedroom, and i know ill use my ps3 for the same thing after i get it for xmas, i also used my ps2 wen my cd player was broke so its great that it has these secondary uses

also i know im not the only one who understands that bluray will hold much bigger and better games so thats a huge +, opening up the options for game ideas

maybe the price is a bit high, hell ive waited till not for one, but it surely will be worth it in the long run, theres always xbox if not...

I'll be honest. i'll still play GT4, even GT1 and GT2 now and then. Haven't got a PS3, not yet anyway. Even when i get 1 (when i do) i'd still play it.

I do realize that people do use their PS2's as DVD players and Cd players. I use mine for playinf burned cd's because my cd player won't read them for some reason.

Although I do gripe about it, sometime in the future I'll probably bread down and get one. But it will have to be after the price drop . . .

Does anyone know if a cut down version (or similar type) will be released for the PS2?, or is it just going to be a PS3 release?.

A cut-down version of GT5 for the PS2? I highly doubt it.

Yes a cut down version for the PS2.

If they wont be doing, that then i guess i will stick with GT3 and GT4, yes i still play both. I will not be forced into buying a new console, just to play GT5. Something just dont feel right to me about that for some reason.

Thanks

I am back on GT3 after playing GT4 for the past 2 years.

We have 3 PS2 in our household so I will have to start saving for the PS3 just to keep everyone happy.

Roll on GT5....

Well, I don't have the PS3, but I'm sure that if I ever get one, I'lle get GT5!

But still, like I heard, there's not a big difference between GT4 and GT5, some say that it's better having GT4.:indiff:

I personnaly would'nt stop playing GT4 because I haven't done 100% yet.

I'm telling myself that I wont spring for a ps3 as soon as gt5 comes out, but knowing me (and the fact that I've only ever bought ps1 and ps2 is for gran turismo), I'm probably gonna buy it the same day gt5 hits the stores ...

i'm really not much of a gamer ... im more of a gt gamer who also plays a select few other car related games.

I myself can't afford a PS3 anytime soon. I'm not that deep in debt, I expect to climb myself out of the hole within the next couple months.

If the PS3 comes bundled with GT5 I would probably purchase that and put it on my credit card.

I hope it comes bundled, just like how the PS2 and GT3 was offered as a bundle.

The only reason I play GT4 is Nürburgring Nordschleife.. And maybe some practise at Suzuka and at the new Fuji course. So, as GT5 releases, including the ´ring, it is Good Bye GT4.

I think they will release a cut-down version for the ps2, but there will be no point in buying it, graphics and gameplay wise its extremely difficult to improve on GT4 unless you get it on the PS3, I will continue to play GT4 until the ps3 drops to a price in which i feel would make it a good buy.

Dont worry, im planning on sticking around here for a while ;)

A bundle like that, but also with a quality wheel and for about the same price as the standalone console is at the moment should be enough to tempt me. Might be a while before they sell a PS3, GT5, G25 bundle for just £300 though. Until then GT4 has plenty to keep me occupied.

When GT5 comes I will be dropping GT4 like a hot rock!

Nah only joking, GT4 will be played much less though, I still play Gt3 from time to time but never GT3.

Sorry mate, but I think I've done just about all I wanted to do in GT4 so when I get GT5 it will be a whole new world to explore and won't be likeley to wanna play GT4 anymore.

Exactly, especially with the updated physics that allow me to drive like a true aussie hoon :P

Well, not me for sure! I want to meet you online, racing. I thought I was The Flying Finn! :D
Doesn't the standard Finnish driving test include a special stage through the woods in a race-prepped Escort Cosworth?
