Why do people like loud music while driving?

I was driving last night and I had my windows down playing some music... Right when I stopped at the light I thought of this thread. Damn you guys..

Why would I do such a thing?

So I don't have to hear anyone complaining about it. :P

I like to see peoples reactions to what I'm listening to, I can't help it

There's a time and a place for it. In traffic, I tend to not really blast it and just chill and enjoy it. If I'm just hanging at the drag strip and EVERYONE else is doing it, then I'll do it too.

I can't stand when people play their music really loud. Kinda loud is ok, but the bass all the way up on a rap song is really annoying.

This times 100.

I'm a hypocrite though. I've done it with my type of music, so I have no room to talk.

I wasn't being funny or sarcastic. Chronic headache, cluster headache, and migraine sufferers don't need additional stimuli to make the condition any worse. It's been a while since I've had a migraine, but people who blast their stereos without a care in the world think it's not all that harmful, but to me, in the midst of a full-blown migraine, it is literally torture. And sure it only lasted maybe a minute at most as you drove on by, but soon there is another inconsiderate jackass close on the heels. The most infuriating part was the rare occasion when I drifted off to a well-deserved sleep while trying to get the migraine to subside, only to be jarred awake by a blasting car stereo outside. Most people have little clue how insulting that is. It's pretty much equal to barging in my room and sucker punching me in the side of the face. That's how insulting to the senses it is, and in my opinion, justified grounds for revenge.

Migraines are not fun. I get them all the time due to a lazy left eye and my god do they hurt like hell.

You do have to take that into consideration. Sometimes, it's things like this that we all forget. I know I do.

I sometimes enjoy being a complete tool :D
On a serious note, I don't know to be honest lol, I have it loud enough so that I get the full effect of the sub but not to the point where the panels of the car are vibrating.

Whenever I hear someone driving with loud music, I wonder if they're deaf and if they're endangering other people's lives.

LOL change before you get too old. You only get away with stuff now because you have such a baby face.

It won't be too long before some wrinkly eyed shirtless thirty something, with a potbelly punches you square in the nose.

I really do like you man, I'm only trying to help.

Well I don't tend to be an ass to people I meet either, but I get what you are saying. Wouldn't be the first time I've taken a punch, usually over stupid arguments that I try to void contact. ;)

If I'm blasting music, and you ask me to turn it down, I do it without a second thought. No questions asked.

People find me pleasant to be around, though some of you might find that hard to believe. I'm a pretty laid back guy outside of the forum.

I've never understood how someone can be so disrespectful for no reason. I do enjoy pulling up to stoplights when someone like you is blaring their music because they "want" me to hear it. I try to blow as little smoke as possible in my truck but when someone is blaring their music at a light, especially when I have my son with me, and their window is right next to my exhaust, well let's just say my truck can blow quite a bit of black smoke if I want it to. It makes me look and feel like a douchebag but they get the picture real quick and either close their windows or turn their crap down and I generally get waves and thumbs up from the other motorists who were sick of the loud music too.

What a complete and utter douchebag thing to do(you said it) to someone for something so petty as having music playing loudly. What if that person has chronic asthma and you shoot a ton of that foul black smoke into his window and set him off on an attack? Ever think of that? I said this in an earlier post about the music thing, all you need to do is drive away. How long does a typical traffic light last anyhow, a minute? You're viewing it as it being disrespectful, but is that the intention of the other person? Really? Did you get out and ask them if they're trying to be disrespectful to everyone around, or did you stop and think that maybe, just maybe, they're enjoying THEIR music in THEIR car and have no intention of it being disrespectful to anyone, they're simply enjoying a little slice of life at the moment. Why do people get so bent over something like this, I don't get it. Shooting rancid exhaust into their window, SERIOUSLY?!?!
People really need to get a grip on reality now-a-days and focus on what's really right and wrong. Shooting unburned hydrocarbons into someones window because you don't care for their choice of music or the volume level they have it at whilst at a TEMPORARY stopped position OUTSIDE on the OPEN ROAD is not what I call right. The sound from my stereo in my car will stop as soon as I turn the volume down or turn it off. The pollution from your worn out and in dire need of a tune-up/repairs truck won't go away so easily. But maybe it should.

A diesel gets more power if you run it rich, so a well tuned diesel will do this.

Taking the EGR out of a truck will increase MPG and power, plus it'll throw a bit of smoke out when you floor it.

Also, if you're in traffic playing music loud enough for everyone around you to hear it, then you pretty much deserve to be be coal-rolled.

And the exhaust from that "well tuned" diesel contains approx. 33% solid particles. Do you think I want to breathe that just because I enjoy listening to music loudly while out in my car? I "deserve" this? Makes me wish I had a way to legally, permanently and remotely disable your vehicle for you because you don't "deserve" to be on the roads with the rest of us. All I'm doing is listening to my music. You? You're actually intentionally trying to cause someone else harm. See the difference yet?
Noise ordinances were created because some old fart couldn't enjoy his afternoon nap. "Noise pollution" occurs around airports and construction sites, not from the stereo of a moving vehicle what will be out of ear-shot in a matter of seconds. Get over it. I live on a fairly busy county highway near town and vehicles are always driving by that have loud music going. It doesn't bother me because it lasts a couple of seconds and is gone. If I let that bother me that much I'd have to move. The real problem here is that people let it bother them when they should just move on and forget it. There's far worse things that we do to one another than this.
And for what it's worth, I value my hearing, which is why I wear ear plugs in the loud areas of my work. I've had a yearly hearing test done for the past 20 years, and guess what? No problems have been detected and I'm nearly at the same baseline levels now as I was 20 yrs ago. I enjoy loud music from time to time, in my car or at home or at a concert. Do I play each and every song loudly? Of course not. Does it torque me off when someone think's they have the "right" to tell me to turn it down when I'm out in my car? You bet it does.

If I politely ask someone who is blaring their rap "music," which generally has quite foul language, to turn it down while I have my 3 year old son with me and they either turn it up or reply with a rude gesture, yep, I turn into a doucher just like that person. If they have asthma, oh well, shouldn't have been a douche I guess.

People need to learn what respect is. I don't care if I'm at a light for ten seconds or 10 minutes, if there are other people around trying to enjoy a nice day with their windows down I turn down my music out of respect. I love blasting live Led Zeppelin bootlegs but I am also aware that not everyone else shares my taste in music so instead of not caring about everyone else because it is my "right" to play music loud, I show some simple respect and either roll my own windows up or I turn my music down.

As I may have said earlier, it has nothing to do with me disliking their music. It has to do with me not wanting my son to hear foul and disgusting language at only 3 years old.

As far as my truck being "worn out" and in need of a tune up, drama queen much? It is a 22 (23 in July) year old, mechanically injected diesel engine, it is going to smoke. When it was bone stock it smoked and now that it has more power it smokes more. Trust me, I know my way around a 12 valve Cummins after building quite a few with well over 1,000hp and my truck is far from needing a tune up, thanks for the laugh though.

Also, don't tailgate me either. That is another sure fire way to get me to drop a gear or two and lug the engine.

Unless you have that gun on you right!?

That's why I'm always armed. Personally, I could give two craps if you or anyone else dislikes my music. I'll play it as loud as I please.

In fact, if I am playing it that loud, it's because I WANT you to hear it.

Yeah, that sounds very laid back indeed.

Not everybody is like you. People get upset for a reason. If you're like me, and for reasons I posted above, it's a little harder to get over. Also, there's loud, then there's obnoxious. If you're playing music obnoxiously loud, you're going to piss people off. Seriously? You expect people to just let that roll off their shoulders? Good for you, but I think quite a few people out there get annoyed and upset at such inconsiderate behavior. I too am the type of person to do something about it. If I pull up next to someone at a light on my motorcycle and their music is obnoxiously loud, I'll rev my bike, which is also quite loud in the upper RPM range, because I'd rather hear my bike than their music. Guess what usually happens? I usually get a bunch of gestures and cursing from the car playing the music obnoxiously loud, so no, I don't care what-so-ever about their well-being either.

I think it's obnoxious seeing a thug roll by with one hand at the top of the steering wheel, blasting his terrible rap songs. I enjoy songs that have a good-sounding and really deep bass, but not when it's rattling the windows and hurts your ears.

I like rolling down the windows and blasting country music. It confuses people they expect rap but its country.
