HA!! yeah... funny
I love Gran Turismo, because of the way the games have been built, the way they work, and the way they let you race, and tune, and tweak. For me, I love starting the game. Having a small amount of money, buying a second hand car, racing with it, buying little performance parts for it, squeezing all the power i can get out of the engine. And slowly building up a car i can be proud of and say "that's my car, i made it what it is." I love being able to build up a garage full of little cars, then sports cars, and finally have made the money to buy that supercar, or that race car. Then to tweak and tune that to suit me.

I also love the realism, the fun and excitement the game gives. The way it feels when you go over a bump, the way the car slightly oversteers in the corner, so you can hold a drift, then accelerate out. It feels like driving, which almost all other racers cannot do.

So basically this thread is for YOU to write down your GT moments, your thoughts, your good and bad times. Anything GT!!

i love how precise , and how much care goes into the game thats what i like and it shows. You can tell by other games if its polished or not . GT series Is spot on .

I love that there is so much in GT, so many cars and so many tracks but you would think this would come at a cost like the graphics not being very good or the physics not being very real but no everything is top quality.I just love the feel of the game, the way it's all setup and all. I like starting out from the very slow cars and getting to the very fastest and all the cars in between and the old and new and how you can experince cars that you never would in real life. Also back before i had a ps or ps2 my brother had gt and I always wanted to play on it and thought how awesome it was and so much fun. And I know that GT5 won't dissapoint me that's for sure, the only way it could would be if the music wasn't that good or the menu sucks but that's nothing because the game is about racing and cars and Polyphony Digital make and absolutely brilliant job of this and that's why I love Gran Turismo so much.

I remember when I first bought a PS2 many years ago. I had heard of the GT series before on the PSX, but never played it. When I rented GT3 for the first time, I fell in love, mainly with the amount of street cars that were playable. I was used to games like NASCAR and things of the sort previous to this, but GT put a whole new world of "real world virtual driving" into my head. I love how I can choose any street car, race car, or supercar, and have the ability to drive it because chances are, I'll never drive many of the cars in real life. We can go all day about physics, but I could care less because the way GT feels just feels "right" to me. It allows you to go to that edge, but when you hit it, you lose it....but it also teaches you and forgives you a little bit, all at the same time.

Just a few more tweaks to the series for GT5, and GT may be the perfect racer in MY BOOK (notice, my opinion, I'm not saying GT is God, but for my personal preferences, GT gives me everything I need, therefore, in my book, it is the best).

To be honest, I don't really know. I just love the games... I couldn't possibly give a definite reason though.

I like the GT series because I love cars, always have and always will. I have also been a racing fan for quite a while now too, and ever since playing GT I have fallen even more in love with cars. The G25 wheel also makes it a much more enjoyable experience. And the fact that it is realistic is another reason. It's not like games such as Need For Speed and Midnight Club where you can drive around corners at 150mph, you actually need to break around corners, and it requires much more skill, the racing line you follow, when to break, should you push hard and risk tyre wear for the lead, or take it slow and wait for them to pit to snatch the lead off them. Everything you do requires thought, which is what I love in a racing sim.

Some of my friends comment saying gran turismo is boring, all you do is race on tracks... the cars arent fast... blah blah (obvious MC and NFS type people...)

I enjoy the GT series for

- The simulation/ realism
- The cars (always gotta drive your dream car lol)
- Damage lol yes....
- Drifting!!!
- The awsome overtakes lol need them
- Comeptition between racers :embarrassed:

and more... 👍

I enjoy Gran Turismo almost entirely for the pure enjoyment I get out of driving the cars, perhaps in some areas it might not be entirely realistic physics, but they are definitely spot on for pure driving enjoyment. Combine this with highly detailed circuits, cars, lighting, etc and it's basically as good as purchasing a real Toyota MR2 and throwing it around the real Nurburgring but without the costs and the pain of crashing.
Ok, maybe it's not as good as the real thing, but it's as close as you can to it for only a fraction of the money.

I can overlook the occasionally bad sound effects and the lack of damage and the occasionally annoying menu systems because the core gameplay in this game is so vastly superior to any of its rivals, and I don't mean how realistic it is, I mean it's far more engaging and fun to play than any of its arcade or simulation rivals.

GT has offered a road car based package,(also race cars) that you take to which ever level you choose or are capable of! The tuning and choices of parts is outstanding, giving the user definite nuances to cater for individual preferences, and giving you "feel" unlike any other. The physics engine is superb, allowing the nuances in tuning and driving to be experienced and adjusted to suit the track-car-driver combo. Then graphically, no other game on any console or genre comes close to the clarity or realism.

THESE are the reasons for near worshipping the team at GT, for allowing me to fullfil lmy dream as a road/race car driver!!!!!(well nearly fullfill ......you know what I mean)

I like it because of all the cars / tracks but mainly because am into tuning cars and when am older I am going to tune my second car(silvia s15 spec r hopefully). The best thing about GT is the start the game where you have to buy an old 102 bhp ff 1984 car and use the remaining money to carefully decisde what to do to it like "should i give it a sports mullfer or weight reduction."

I forgot to mention, as I'm now 20 years old...GT has taught me so much about cars in general as well. I knew a decent amount about American cars and some of the popular supercars growing up, but GT opened up automotive history and the types and names of cars I've never heard of. Now when I see a rare car around where I live, I can usually pinpoint it a lot faster than most of my friends. It isn't just a game in my opinion, it's a culture through and through.

Am 16 and I know more about cars than most of my friends. My half cousin knows more than me and were always saying which sports cars are the best, I say silvia, he says impreza. The only cars I don't know much about are lambos and porsches, it shouldn't be hard to guess why.

@s15specr and RacingFreak2k3
Same here, I'm 18 years young, and all my mates think i'm weird that i know about almost everything about cars. GT and Top Gear i have to thank for that.

@ everyone
Keep your thoughts coming in? What does Gran Turismo mean personally to you? And what have been your favourite moments or most memorable times with Gran Turismo? I've got several. But my favourite one was a day and night with my two mates, and we did the 24hr Nurburgring Endurance Race, in full. A great day, full of fun and laughter.

Keep your posts coming in guys!

-> I've been playing GT since I was 17 years old. Now at 27, my love for the game has evolved ten folds since then.

-> My primary reason why I love GT is it gives other cars outside of the elite few (ie. super/hyper/exotic cars) feels more special in a world of Test Dirve & Need for Speed. No other driving simulation game (ie. racing game) that offers regular cars in a whole new broader scale, and still continues to this day (Forza falters on this department lately). Sure, Togue Max series came in with a racing game that consists of regular cars first, but GT replicates each car they feature to its fullest. It may not be perfect like some highly acclaimed race sims offered in PC, but GT offers that 'perfect balance' of being a sim but fun at the same time.

-> One thing that also motivates me of pursuing the Vehicle Wish List on the other thread, is that GT might get its idea from the list and learn from it and feature it on future GT's (hopefully). ;)

Update on my post, I have decided to get the GT logo for a first tattoo, but I can't decide whether to go for the red and blue or the gloss black... Any ideas?

For those people who know more about cars than most and family and friends think it's weird, I am sort of the same, but I am hopeless at diagnostics and repairs and such... I am pretty good with various specs on cars and such...

did anyone else read the information pack on GT2 for each of the cars? It's the button next to the one to fin out the specs... Pretty good stuff in those.

Partly because of my liking for cars and partly fro the HUGE amount of vehicles in the whole series of GT. :D

I'm all new to the series, but fell in love with GT5prologue. Then got GT4 (only 7% completed - amazing game for ps2!) I used to love arcade-racing games - nfs and such. Thought I was "good" at driving, cause cars stick to the road at any speed - and what I love about GT5 is that PD proved me wrong! I found out that I totally suck at driving & drifting- that's why I love GT.

Glad that you found that GT is more realistic. Unfortunately a lot of my friends aren't hardcore race game fans, and it's a lot easier for them to pick up NFS and play, and when they play GT, some of them can't stand it because it's too "unrealistic" in their minds, mainly because they're probably used to cars turning on a dime in other games. Boy they're missing out on a lot if they would just take some time with it. Oh well, I'll stick with my GT :)

Same here, all my friend play NfS and don't like GT (because it's much harder I think)

^ Glad to see you jumping in to the GT bandwagon. :)👍

-> Once you harness most of the techniques in GT, it would make you a better driver in real life. The secret of getting good at GT if for you to drive clean and not erratic (on time trial), just like racing with go-karts smoothness is the key. And you will notice your time being faster especially if you use any logitech steering wheel. ;)

^ I also do get remarks from my other 'import/domestic' themed friends that GT is either 'too hard', 'too slow' or 'too realistic'. Some of those friend prefer PGR, NFS, or TD. I'm done with those games overall, maybe PGR once in a while, but I prefer Burnout Paradise the most when it comes to 'Arcade-themed' racing games on consoles. :)

Finally a thread that doesn't sound the same as the last one in this forum.👍

I think I like GT because it's like living my wildest fantasies of what I'd do if I was rich.:) Great and realistic racing too.:)

Hey cool thread. I like the GT series because it's something you don't just complete, then leave to gather dust. You can do a lot more stuff, completing the game isn't even that important. It's an extremely friendly game, as in, you don't really need to read the instructions or look up walkthroughs. And the fact i'm a good tuner helps too :). Amen!

Hey People! Sorry, I've been away for a few days over the new year. From me, a Big Shout! to RacingFreak2k3, s15specr, and The Vanishing Boy. Nice to see you're regularly writing in. And great comments and advice.

@code131158 - Nice to see you found Gran Turismo dude! Found it at the right time. 👍
@GBWH1991 - With regards to your tattoo choices, that's a tough one. I'd say get both! The red and blue, or the glossy black both look awesome.

And finally, to ALL. What has been your favourite moment? Or your most memorable time? Or your greatest personal achievement with Gran Turismo? What GT memory has stuck in your mind? Happy New Year to you all!

i can tell the entire akings of a car and what makes that different from other and and the simle reality of what it is to control a hunk of metal at 250mph

^ Aww, gawsh! :sly:

-> Thanks! ;)

What has been your favourite moment? Or your most memorable time? Or your greatest personal achievement with Gran Turismo? What GT memory has stuck in your mind?
^ There are so many things that I would consider memorable:

GT1 - Purchasing the game itself.
GT2 - My Garage Top Speed Batte at the Test Course.
GT3 - The graphics.
GT4 - My Garage Time Attack battle at Autumn Ring.
GT5P - My anticipation for the final game.

^ Overall, all of these are considered memorable on my opinion. Plus I'm finally driving a car that is included in the GT series, my Honda S2000 (and hopefully a Honda Element).
