Why no tyre marks in every GT so far?

Burnt rubber on pavement is just part of reality and car doing donuts or smoking start and leaving empty surface is looking funny the same way as car shining with no headlights, car passing around without wheels or driver driving without steering wheel. I am curious why so many people have problem to understand this and have to think out all kinds of excuses for PD in this case. Real driving simulator without so basic thing? I hope not this time.

Simple reason why there are no tyre marks in every GT so far. It's because they haven't put them in...

You can always not buy the game if you are not happy with it...

Now there is some solid points of discussion RedBaron. That Nomino sure knows how to make a point. His argument is solid.

On a serious note mate, I completely agree that GT5 in it's amazing splendour would just seem a bit strange without tyre marks. Like you said, like an unfinished symphony...

Somewhere in PD....

"Ok, so we're nearly finished, there was one more thing wasn't there?"
"Yes Kaz, we putting skid marks in"
"Mmmmm, skid marks...tyre marks...skid marks...flat spots...tyre performance....less grip...YAAAAHOOO!! Do it all!....How long?"

*Heads hit tables*

IF there isnt any it will just look wierd, imagine going into the sand, and no dust, spinning out and no smoke, too heavy on the gas and no marks, it is totally reasonable as a feature in a Driving game

Im not putting GT down nor will i not buy it if tire marks arent there, it will just have to wait but it will raise questions, how can they be working on so many extra and new features like youtube and yada yada and not have something which is bound by flesh and rubber to driving and racing.

I gotta agree with speedfreak, im not gonna cry if they left it out but i will have some raised eyebrows if my 458 shows visual damage\deformation but dosnt donut when i donut.

I agree. It's like making a shooting game without blood.

I feel the same way. Why add extra glitz and glamor (YouTube) and still manage to get away from the basics. It's like trying to make apple juice without an apple, you need the two, they go hand in hand. Tires=Tire smoke, marks, and noise. They have always given us the noise and the unimpressive smoke, but quite frankly its time to put the money where the asphalt is and leave marks already.

What I see are people saying how long visually will it be there. True skid marks can last for quite a bit of time, but remember it's just a game. If you want life long skid marks get in your car make some and MySpace the pictures LoL. Race length. I don't see what's the catch of going back to Laguna Seca 5 races after you left a sick skid mark there and expecting it to still be there. Again true they last in real life but silly it's a GAME remember that. But then that raises the question on longer races. If the marks are going to be on the track for 100's of laps then that has to affect the cars grip and handling right? We shall see upon GT5's release.

LOL,can just picture that happening

Hehe, I'm glad this thread went into more intelligent and constructive direction, also that I can make my fellow forum members from English speaking countries laugh with my rudimentary knowledge of your language!:dopey:;)
Anyhoo, I really have no explanation why PD didn't include this basic feature, which most of you seem to consider as such(like a transformers movie without the foxy Megan would be incomplete!:nervous:), from the first('97), or at least the second game...but then came the ps2, which was certainly more than capable(had two of those),judging by practically every other game on it, until ps3, at which point it's gotten ridiculous to even go into debate about "can this console handle it?":scared:. As for some concrete evidence(which wasn't there before), the same mechanism that puts the texturized dirt or scratches on the car(when X happens-apply texture) I think shows that we can expect the same upon the road texture.👍 I'm currently playing Shift(awesome sounds and very nice graphics, handling -so so,but best since nfs porsche game;)) and I think the tire marks stay on the road the whole race, but even so,if you have an endurance race of say 100 laps, you could have the game erasing marks from 1st lap when you get to 11th, so you'd always have the last 10 laps "recorded",if it's really that big of a deal regarding memory needs.💡
p.s. I'm getting all excited about this game like 10 years ago, when the gt3 was brewing:dopey: and I ended up getting one of those first ps2s, smuggled:scared: from Italy and then, not playing any complete games for like a year, since there were none in my country, also I was kinda short on money;)...so come march, ps3+gt5 it is, it seems:)

I would have to assume if their concerned about damage modeling, there will be tire smoke and skid marks.

Backup lights? may have to wait till GT6 on that. ;)

'Real Tyre Skid Burn Smoke Simulator Pro 2010' preorder it now on amazon.
Playstation Magazine: 10/10 "...it even does cars aswell!"
Times Review: "..it's so good at simulating tyre, i even felt i was a tyre, and i'm not even black!"

come back to gt5 when you have become tired of it...

joking aside, i would like to see as much detail in the game as possible and that includes tyre rubber on track and smoke from lock ups. i would rather they coded that than the correct number of stitches on a leather steering wheel interior view.

Actually funny you say that, the japanese are quite particular about there toilet habits.

So maybe Kaz has some phobia to skid marks... :dunce:

This one cracked me up and half a mouthful of food now litters the floor good stuff man, good stuff LoL!

It's certainly a compromise on performance. Take a list of graphical features from GT including damage modeling, bloom, reflections, number of cars, etc. No matter how I look at it (including the oh so popular reverse lights), I don't see myself allocating rersources for it. I don't think it's something PD hasn't programmed the game for. It'd be a piece of cake. It may also not be a graphical hog on resources like other people say it is, but it'd be the least of the priorities. They most likely add everything they have in, then when the system bogs down, take a feature out one by one. Skids are at the bottom most likely.

I find your written English language very good, in fact probably better than a lot of people that are born and live in English language speaking countries. Croatia is a beautiful country and the football team rocks! I had a croatian friend in UK, very intelligent and well educated, but could handle his drink too. ;) I'm from next door by the way, born in Romania. :) Also, you might want to look up and find what "Pula" means in the Romanian language. Cheers 👍

Never heard of this game and wouldn't even Google it because of Time's review. I find they're remark stupid and can see it easily offending the wrong person or people.

I put it in google translator............i wont say anything else................:sly:

Do you REALLY want to brake there where the Artificial Idiot brakes?:scared: I'm glad that I haven't ran into you in the online races.

No, but I want to know where my smartass online opponents freaky brake!;)

.... and just how realistic is that? do they vanish in two laps in real life? hmm? better no skid marks than the ones that go to la-la land with the fairies.. which would lead to the fact that you couldn't use them as a marker for braking.

but... I could still use them during those 2 laps, surely?

If you need to use reverse on track, you're doing A LOT OF THINGS wrong.

Oh yeah, because even professional drivers never do... oh wait...

Don't you mean, "if you never need to use reverse in GT, you're better driver than the rest"? :sly:

That's a possible point of view too, of course. :D

Freakin' zombi jesus on a dildo, at what lengths will some people here go in order to "save" PD's reputation or just suck up!
I love GT series and have been a fan for more than 10 years now,but I knew it always had its flaws,so I really hate when people see fit to claim that it's perfect the way it is and even worse that we don't need new features as a sort of a excuse??:grumpy:
Newsflash to caveman types, but things like damage, livery editors, weather, quality engine sounds, good AI(etc.)and in this case skidmarks have been in lots of games for 10-15 years now on all sorts of inferior platforms,so please just stop with your pathetic defense,if it were up to you,we'd probably still be playing in 2D ,cuz 3D is so over the top and unnecessary!👎
btw. I'm so ticked off, because this type of people always come out of the woodwork whenever some progress is being made(or suggested) and then they try to bring it down... /rant end
So,in my opinion, the tire marks will most probably make it in this time, judging by damage and dirt on cars(texturized type) which is the same type of graphical feat, also it could be procedural which takes up even less memory...and the fact that you can't release an ultimate driving/racing game on ps3 in 2010. and not have such a basic feature!:dunce:
I don't even want go into braking points, realism etc. ,because there are NO sound arguments against having this feature. :) My 2 cents.

Finally someone got it right! 👍

GT3 sold nearly 15 million, nearly 16.5 counting GTC, and took around 2 years to make. GT4 took nearly 4 years and only sold around 10 million. Even with GT4P included that's still less than 11.5 million, so that's, at the very least, 5 million sales drop for GT and nearly double the development time. Not even taking into consideration that there were just over under 20 million PS2 consoles worldwide by end 2001, same year GT3 was released, and in by the end of 2004, same year GT4 was released, there were over 100 million PS2 consoles worldwide! If you don't think that's considerable drop in sales then you need to practice mathematics.:sly:
I'd like to point out that you seem to be overlooking some things in your analysis. Namely, the four years that transpired and 80 million PS2s that were sold between the release of GT3 and GT4, and when GT4 was released in relation to other things that were happening in the world.

For four years, GT3 was Gran Turismo. If you bought your PS2 in 2002, and you wanted to play GT, you were obviously going to buy GT3, right? Same goes for the other 79,999,999 people that bought PS2s between the release of GT3 and GT4.

When GT4 was finally released, it was only a few months before the 360 launched, and just over a year before the PS3 was launched. So despite the fact that there was new hotness on the horizon, and the fact that 15M driving aficionados already had a copy of GT3 (possibly purchased fairly recently), GT4 still managed to sell 10M copies, making it one of the best-selling games of all time, and the #3 game on the entire platform.

So, yeah, I'm not really seeing the "decline" that you're seeing.
