I think the conclusion we can make at this point is that the failure rate doesn't depend on the console type. All four choices have roughly equal results.

Except the poll has been confusing people and all of the responses in this thread so far with system crashes occurring have been 1st and 2nd generation fats.

Guess I'll be setting up a new thread then.

Edit: New thread!

You're not supposed to replace the HDD? Is that why sony made it so easy to replace and even showed you how to do it, in the manual?

I concede the point for that. But my thoughts goes to the fact that the HDD replacement was foa bigger project that didn't include gaming.

HDD replacement should've been placed there for like to like replacement (i.e. a hdd if te same size and characteristics). Theoraticalky uou coyld upgrade the size, but you may have to live with potential crashes

120GB slim with 500GB WD black edition HD (7200rpm, 32mb buffer), using downloaded PSN vers. runs very good, with no major issues and no freezing or black screening.

BGM during races disabled.

For question poll.. So I selected 120 slim.

You have title opposite of question which is confusing/ poorly worded.
Same here, this thread is misleading... :(

My slim 120gb has never crashed while playing gt6.

The fatty i had in the past, has crashed because of gt5 ( YLOD )

My Fat 80GB (after they removed the PS2 support all together) crashes occasionally, but it has always done that, even when it was brand new. I actually have a hunch that its the HDD that keeps going screwy more than anything else; I've been meaning to replace it with a newer one, but haven't yet.

I have a 3 year old 320GB slim. It has never crashed, have never had any problems with GT6 or GT5 for that matter.

My 2nd Gen NTSC Fat 80GB crashes roughly once a week; only from usage in online lobbies or accessing online features. During offline gameplay, it has never crashed or had any issues. No overheating, no artifacting, or pixel/framerate issues. I've had Indy road course(online) have multicolored track texture issues, but returning to the pit fixed the issues - the back straightaway looked like rainbow road. Others reporting this has made me believe its a bug in the game, and not PS3-related.

I have had such a severe crash, however, that corrupted my HDD and made me do a complete wipe. It's a WD 500GB laptop drive, which I don't think was the problem as much as the game writing to the disk during the crash.
