Wii U Latest News and Discussion

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-f-zero-would-require-redesigned-control-interf/1100-6424508/

So, Miyamoto has confirmed that the possibility of F-Zero on Wii U is basically non-existent because it would require 'a new controller interface'. This, coming from the man who is working on a console that(as of now) has compatibility with:
-The Wii U Gamepad
-Pro Controller
-Wiimote
-Wiimote + Nunchuck
-Classic Controller
-Gamecube Controller
-3rd Party peripherals (HORI fight Pads)

All I can say about this is 'Why am I not surprised?' Miyamoto and Nintendo frustrate me at times, sometimes they are so blind with their chase of 'innovation' that they will just ignore what the fans want because it's not new-looking enough. I'm pretty sure if F-zero fans got a new game that used the gamepad they wouldn't be crying about it not being innovative enough.

If there isn't a market for the game, they should just say it. Be honest with us, I know I'm not sure either if a new F-ZERO game would sell amazing but if that's the worry...voice it to the fans. Don't hide behind some silly excuse.

Unfortunately it looks like the only F-Zero game to sell well was the original SNES game. I had GX on the Gamecube. It was brilliant.

Wasn't that indie game called Quantum Rush? I had a go at the beta but like all PC games, my PC just goes slow
That is one of them I think. There's also a few others in the making, one touted to be coming to PS4(even though the devs said their inspiration came from F-Zero rather than WipEout. ) and another being made by half the team that made WipEout HD Fury.

@Classic -- FAST Racing Neo, sequel to FAST Racing League (Wiiware). If you're fond of attractive visuals in your futuristic racing games, it should be one to watch. From an interview with one of the devs last month:
Manfred Linzner
We started with FAST Racing Neo right after we were done with Nano Assault Neo. So this was end of 2012. A major challenge was to get on par or even beyond what other racing games on PC,PS4 or XB1 offer visually. Those games are done by very large and professional teams (around 30x to 100x times bigger then us). Just the sheer amount of geometry you need to produce for that sweet ‘Nex Gen’ look is insane. Not even to mention the nearly impossible task to render that all at 60fps on the Wii U. Anyway, we liked that challenge. We feel we do our best work when being challenged. You need to find creative ways.

That's pretty damn...pretty. :P

Hopefully it turns out nice, it'll be an instapurchase for me!

Mildly annoyed about Metroid Prime Trilogy being available on the eShop for $10 right now after recently paying more than fifty bucks for a copy. But I do prefer having a disc.

Suppose for someone like me who is too tight to play the prices that owners wanted it's a god-send though...

Worse, it was GameStop. I spotted it on the shelf when I was there to redeem a gift card, and I knew their price wasn't far off from what it was worth. And it's totally worth it, I'm just unfortunate in that I had already bought all three games when they were new.

The fact a new Fire Emblem was shown off at the last Direct makes me think SMTxFireEmblem is now a dead game. We haven't heard anything about it since that trailer years ago.

Shame, it looked fun.

I just wrapped up Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, before my wife and I start Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (on order to arrive Tuesday). Not a super difficult game, but the last levels are certainly gamer-tier, well beyond what my wife can handle. I think in the end I was right, it's a little thin for a $40 game (but I received it as a gift).

I've also recently come around on Splatoon; the singleplayer gameplay as seen in the preview video adds a lot more interest beyond just an online (paintball) shooter. I think it also underscores one of the points I was making in my "Divide" thread, with the floating platforms, obstacles, big jumps, and dynamic gameplay. Lots of stuff going on that would be too wacky for photorealistic "war simulators"...but also something in common with more violent games of a bygone era like Quake or Unreal Tournament.

I've long been clear on my stance regarding Splatoon @Wolfe , personally I think it's going to be the best Wii U game this year. I love everything unveiled about it so far.

@Classic -- I guess I was skeptical because all we knew of it at first was the multiplayer, and it didn't really show off much in terms of unique gameplay besides moving from place to place through ink. I think I'm convinced already, so you ought to have at least one person from here to cover your back online. :)

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Splatoon, Mario Maker, Yoshi's Woolly World, and probably Xenoblade Chronicles X, too -- I think travelling by mecha and exploring the expansive world that the Xenoblade brand has become known for will make up for the combat, if it's as similar to Final Fantasy XII as it looks. Then we'll see how Zelda Wii U turns out, and there's more in the pipeline like Project CARS, FAST Racing Neo, Mighty No. 9, Hyper Light Drifter...

Zelda Wii U looks to be my very first Zelda 3D Game. The World looks amazing.

On a rumor note; there is a rumor that there will a new 3D Main Series Sonic game on the Wii U along with the other next-gen consoles. We all know Sonic is a hit and miss but hopefully they learned their mistakes from Sonic Lost World.

@RESHIRAM5 -- I presume you mean Sonic Boom?

One idea that has floated around is that Nintendo should develop the next Sonic game themselves. It would probably make for the best Sonic game since Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The concept for the original game was inspired by running through World 1-1 in Super Mario Bros. as quickly as possible, anyway.

My wife and I are about one-and-a-half worlds through Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, and as I gathered from reviews, it's possibly the best co-op game ever for a seasoned gamer and not-so-seasoned gamer to play together. I think even the reviews I read underemphasized that aspect.

While Kirby uses the touchscreen, Waddle Dee reprises his spear-wielding role from Return to Dreamland as a normal platforming character, which adds a unique dynamic over playing singleplayer. As P2, I have the freedom and power to lend my wife an advantage over many obstacles and enemies, but only she has the abilities necessary to allow us to proceed.

I think it stands above other asymmetrical co-op ideas (eg. Super Mario Galaxy, De Blob 2) in that both players have a truly meaningful role to play, without being a dull experience in either case. Which means that swapping places as desired is fine, too.

I mean Lost World. I can't really say much on Boom especially when a different development team worked on it but for Lost World, it was a flop compared to Generations and Colours. Though I did enjoy the 3DS version the Wii U version was some of the most oddest experiences I've played in a game and I never got out of the odd zone.

The 3DS version had much better level design in my opinion.

You go to sleep for a few hours and miss all the fun...

Big points:
  • New system technically announced: The 'Nintendo NX' more information will come in 2016 but judging by Iwata-san's comments it seems to be part of the current eco-system alongside the Wii U and 3DS. Although that could be marketing talk to lure us in lightly.
  • This is a biggie. Nintendo sign deal with DeNA to bring Nintendo IPs to smart-phones and PC. Buying 10% stake in DeNA means that this is a serious venture. Virtual Console games? Stand alone titles? All possible. Iwata also said something about 'companion' titles for popular series.
  • NINTENDO IZ D00MED!!!11111!!!!!1111

Wait I know I'm quoting this, but seriously? I was literally interested in Wii U so exactly what's going on here? I know Wii U hasn't been performing very well, but I think it has to do with the fact the only adverts I've seen for it is Super Mario Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8(not a joke).

I know you're joking, but what is the current state of Nintendo right now?

Well basically, NX(the new console) was only unveiled to show how the brand new smart-phone sponsorship system will work for present consoles and future consoles, this is a huge investment by Nintendo costing 165 million dollars to gain a 10% stake in this DeNA mobile-gaming firm. NX only exists by name-sake as of currently.

Nintendo in their current state are still extremely stable. Even if the Wii U hasn't set the world on fire, it's still selling okay figures and the 3DS had it's best week of sales since it's launch just last week, beating out every other console by a considerable margin. Their stock rating has also increased today following the announcement made earlier for the first time in 6 months.

Simply put, it is only those who want Nintendo games on their consoles who are determined for Nintendo to jump out the console making business. But for as long as they continue to absolutely blitz the handheld market and pull in modest figures for the Wii U, they aren't going out of the hardware business anytime soon. Don't expect NX to release before early 2017 at the least, at this point, we don't even know if it's handheld or home console...maybe it could even be both.

The recent Amiibo venture has also seen fantastic success, over 3.6 million figures sold to date.

Okay me personally I feel like I've neglected Nintendo which is why in another thread to sum that up I might be going back to Nintendo just because I'm burned out from PS4/PS3/X1/360 not so much PC because they've had some games I could get down with, and plus they don't cost much.

The day Nintendo doesn't do well in my eyes(at least now) is worrisome for me just because they've been around so long now, and they know how to keep it real so to speak.

Don't worry, Nintendo aren't going anywhere and their game output is better than ever. If you have a console with 3rd party support then I'd suggest to just about everyone than having a Wii U or 3DS is a must for that Nintendo type of game only they can pull off.

I love my Wii U, I've played some of my favorite games ever on it(The Wonderful 101 and Mario Kart 8) and there is still a good number of titles to come out this year including new IPs and old ones alike.

I'm sure the other few members on GTP with a Wii U would echo my sentiments.

👍

Really true @Classic, and I think I'll waste a lot of more hours on the Wii U to come. Though the Main Coarse for me is Mario Maker, my childhood dream awaits :D:D:D

@Zuku -- I was wondering if you owned or had considered a Wii U based on your comments in the "modern AAA games" thread.

I'm happy with mine. With my gaming purchases on a budget and the magic of the eShop, I've had a "wanted list" of games consistently going since a couple months after I got the console, and there's more I'm looking forward to playing in 2015. And to echo what @Classic said, Nintendo's hard-hitters -- Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. 4 -- have slammed a homerun in each of their respective ballparks. Their dev teams are really at the top of their game.

Yeah it seems like that's pretty much where I'm headed, but I'll take about 3 months to year off of gaming too still haven't been focusing on my life a lot since leaving college etc.

Has any of my friends from the US or Canada picked up Kirby: Rainbow Curse yet? EU has to wait till May for it to release and I was just wondering if anyone had opinions on it? :)
