Wii U Latest News and Discussion

I'm waiting to see more details on Mario Maker, it definitely an insta-buy for me but I want some more answers that they've left out.

Hope it's shown at E3 :)

Should be I imagine. That'll be a part of the show I probably fall asleep at.

Looks like we're on opposite ends then ;). I'll looking for every bit of detail in that game because it looks to be my game of the year :D.

I'm amazed its even a full retail title although to be honest I've never been a fan of 2D mario.

Does seem more like an app but I actually think if its marketed well, it could get a lot of buys. I don't even care if they charged me 1,000 bucks for the game actually :D, this has been my dream.

I find 2D Mario to be better than the recent 3D Marios (Galaxy 2 - 3D World). While the 2D Mario have been unoriginal ever since NSMB2, the level design is what gets me hooked into their games not to mention they don't end with a 🤬 final boss unlike the 3D ones.

I really wish Mario Maker had a music composition function, with accidentals and fewer limitations than in Mario Paint. I do find the concept appealing as an alternative to the LittlePatheticJumpPlanet series. :P

If Mario Maker has great sharing abilities for levels I will absolutely buy it, but (for various reasons) it is more likely Nintendo have made a mess of that aspect of the game. Really hope I'm wrong!

Ooooooh. :drool::drool::drool::drool:

Oh my. :D

That looks even better than I thought it would. I also appreciate the speeds roughly in line with the original F-ZERO, rather than something excessive like the top speeds in FZGX. We might not get the sim we wanted, but between this, The '90s Arcade Racer, and Mario Kart 8, the Wii U may get a nice little lineup of racing games after all. I hope FAST handles as good as it looks.

It seems the color shift mechanic from the first game will return again, judging from the blue/orange exhaust and those zones on the track surface.

This looks very sharp. Seems like it will be an e shop exclusive, but nobody has said that for sure. I'm also curious if there are going to be any customisation abilities. Either way, I'll get it. I need some sort of racing game!

@Benny44 -- It will almost certainly be eShop only, but it's also likely to have a tidy filesize relative to the scope of the game. The guys at Shin'en seem to have a background in the "demoscene" art of extracting sophisticated visuals from limited data:

Shin'en
Most people think that data size and the look and feel of a game are in a linear relationship. Beauty is not a function of data size. You can create beautiful worlds in 4kb that are hard to match by multimillion dollar games that are delivered on a 50gb optical medium. We tend to keep our data size small because it simply allows to have much quicker iteration time in our games development. Smaller downloads are also a big benefit for our customers. We don’t really think about how to make our games as small as possible, it’s more a natural byproduct of how we approach games development.

Being a digital only is good, as it will no doubt be a bit cheaper that way. I think in a way it can be bad for a company. I love getting stuff digitally, but not everyone shops online, and I think it may be easier to overlook. I'm thinking mainly of parents buying for their kids. But everyone is getting more tech savvy, so the difference might be negligible anyway

So what E3 predictions do we have for the digital event then Uowners? I'm thinking: Animal Crossing U, Mario Maker, Project Giant Robot, Xeno X, Star Fox, one new IP. Since its 2015 only my hopes of some new unveils are curtailed a bit.

Metroid!!!!!! I think there will be a 3DS and Wii U version, with the Wii U version being a return to the Prime series.(there is a bit of evidence to back up my theory) Completely agree with the animal crossing too.

Another Excite Truck would be pretty rad but I'm sure Nintendo have ditched the racing genre outside of Mario Kart.

I never tried Excite truck, but it looked interesting. I did grow up playing excitebike though. But my favorite game of all time is the original Metroid. I spent hours playing that game (some of it on a little 13" black and white tv :D). I even drew out my own map for the game haha.:boggled:
Anyway....I think there is going to be a new Mario Galaxy. They haven't made a proper single player focused Mario adventure for the Wii U yet. It also seems to be time for a DK game of some sort, but.....Retro studios usually does those....and Retro has been working on a big project for a long time, probably even during the development of DK:Tropical Freeze. Retro also developed the good Metroid games, hence the reason for my speculation (along with many others). Sorry for the little rant, but I LOVE speculating :lol::lol:

Retro have apparently been working on a game for a few years, Diddy Kong Racing seems to be what most people think it will be but I wouldn't be surprised to see another DK. Next Level Games have also been working on a game with 'enhanced online features' according to one employee's LinkedIn account so thats also something to look out for.

My birthday is June 14th but every year its the same, more hyped about E3 and the surprises it has. :D

A Metroid game would be grand (unless it's 3DS only), but all I want for now is a date on XCX -- no later than September, please! Also, Shin'en said they'd share footage of FAST Racing Neo this month -- maybe during E3? Das wird spitze sein. :)

And hey, once Nintendo's presentation is over, the spotlight returns to Ian Bell and SMS to make their decision on PCARS.

On the subject of Metroid, it's kinda too bad that the console releases have established a precedent for 3D. I'd love a gorgeous HD Metroid game with Super/Fusion-style gameplay and moody lighting effects. I'm just not a handheld guy -- I've probably spent more time with off-TV play on the Wii U GamePad than the DS I bought from a garage sale a few years ago. The circumstances in which I would play a handheld are similar.

@Benny44 -- Since you're a Metroid fan, I recommend taking a look at Affordable Space Adventures if you haven't already. It's fairly linear in terms of exploration (and I wish it was longer), but it has a similar sense of isolation and an eerie atmosphere, with nifty physics-based puzzles that take full advantage of the GamePad touchscreen. It's also fun to play with a significant other. :)

I own that game! My wife and I are probably about halfway through it. It definitely has some similarities to older metroid games. I never thought I'd like a game like the Prime games, but once I played them, I was hooked. Nintendo did say a few months back they want to revisit both 2d and 3d metroid. The only thing is I'd assume the 3d would be on the console. The gamepad could be put to innovative use on that game.

Coincidentally, the Metroid-inspired 3DS indie game Xeodrifter is now said to be coming to Wii U. :) When I heard about that one I was disappointed that it was 3DS-only, so this is cool news.

I'm not sure about everyone else but the fact Smash is getting its own mini-direct on Sunday is awesome to me. I really didn't Smash taking up valuable time in the actual E3 event.

Just don't think DLC is that big a deal to bog down the game reveals.

Hopefully my friend will have some good stuff to share from Nintendo. He works for thier PR team and is flying out to LA.

I just want news and more gameplay of Zelda U.
