Lots of words that took me ages to delete on my iPhone for the sake of brevity

Extremely agree. It makes me laugh how a) companies pretend (most often indirectly by making a huge deal about certain features) that what they're doing is somehow new and b) how worked up some people get about Company X stealing an idea from Company Y. Gaming is probably the worst industry for this because the majority of consumers are either too young to understand or too young to remember how things got to this point. I'm not sure if your post was on topic or not, I don't even know what this thread is about, I blame the codeine!

Nintendo to host Wii U press event on September 13th in NYC

The Verge
Nintendo will hold an all-day event in New York City next month to reveal more about its next generation video game console, Wii U. On Thursday, September 13th, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime will host a press briefing to reveal "more about how the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment," according to an invitation sent to Polygon.

Sources close to Nintendo tell Polygon that a Wii U launch date and price are likely to be announced at the event. Hands-on game play with Wii U software is promised.

Nintendo held a similar event in New York in January 2011 where Fils-Aime announced the launch date and price of the Nintendo 3DS.

Via Siliconera:

Wii U can support external storage, up to 3 TB, according to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Amie. Reggie explains by saying, “The reason we did it that way is that the cost of that type of storage memory is plummeting. What we didn’t want to do is tie a profit model to something that’s gonna rapidly decline over time. We’ll let the consumer buy as much as they want, as cheaply as they want.”

In summary, the Wii U has basic storage of 8 GB or 32 GB, but you can plug in an external hard drive up to 3 TB for expanded storage. Reggie explains that it will reduce manufacturing costs and the need for multiple SKUs for each storage upgrade.

Preordered the premium version (ahem, for my little boy you understand).

Takes the current count of consoles/handhelds in my house to stupid levels.

PS2
PS3
Xbox360
Wii
DS
3dSXL
Vita
Coming soon WII U.

I have issues.

Definately only choosing one in the next gen though. Xbox or PS4.

This is getting out of hand.

Platinum Games Project P-100 now officially known as.....

The Wonderful 101

"I knew we forgot someone....you." Haha, I like that slogan. 👍

The Magic Box
Nintendo confirmed that the Wii U GamePads will not be sold separately in stores in North America, those who want to get a second GamePad can order it through customer service from Nintendo.

Nintendo mentioned that Wii, WiiWare and Virtual Console titles are not compatible with Wii U GamePad.

Nintendo said they will continue to support Wii alsong with Wii U, as they still see many opportunities for the old console.

Wii U will launch with 9 titles in Japan, including New Super Mario Bros. U, NintendoLand, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, Musou Orochi 2 Hyper, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition, ZombiU, Assassin's Creed III, Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition and Monster Hunter 3G HD Ver.

I don't know how people can buy all the consoles  I make my decision and stick to it for the generation, even if its a bad one :sly:

I'm concerned as to why Nintendo still refuse to release the tech specs of the thing (CPU, GPU, MHz etc)... probably because they are scared that they are only slightly better than what's currently out there.

Also I have never seen a more ugly half assed console case styling as this one. Its looks like something you by in a no frills electronics range. Like a $10 toaster.

I also ask about Game Freak's interest in Nintendo's other new hardware, the Wii U, with a personal plea for the team to do a new version of Pokemon Snap making use of the Wii U Gamepad. Masuda doesn't seem interested in my wish.

"Photography wasn't as widely spread in those days," he says. "Now everyone has a camera and can take photos whenever they want. Releasing it in that same form wouldn't be as interesting these days. Maybe there's a new idea, though."

Linky.

Nintendo Wii U biggest wasted opportunity in the history of videogaming confirmed.

Dumb*** Alert: Reggie Fils-Amie recently spoke to IGN on pricing for the monitor pad.

Put your pencils down.

Reggie said that there are currently no plans to sell the controller in the US, saying that there are no games that support a second monitor pad in the launch window(Nov.-Mar.), and because of that, Reggie wants all hardware production to drive sales at retail.

"What I mean by that is that Wii U is a console and a GamePad together, Reggie said to IGN, "If I were to take additional GamePads and make them available as an accessory, then I would have less Wii U console hardware to sell into retail. You know, probably one of your questions is whether I'm going to meet demand. The only way we're going to achieve that here in the Americas is to not have that GamePad accessory, so I can maximize my overall volume."

Basically, Reggie is trying to boost NA sales of WiiU by not offering the pad during the launch window...

Dumb****!

I dont think thats Dumb at all TBH.

What would be dumb is having a second controller gather dust because no games utilise it.
Now that's dumb.

No, it's dumb because there is no price point for the controller, rumored to be $153, so those with tight wallets can't save up for it.

Reggie could have announced both the price point now, and the release date in Spring 2013. Fans would be mad, sure, but some information is better than none at all.

Fair enough.

I certainly won't be buying a second controller after the motion plus debacle.

Hardly any developers programmed for motion plus and I see the same happening for 2 control pad games. I'm not getting stung again.

Sucks for those who want to buy one and they don't know the price though.

Nintendo doesn't set the price in Europe. That's left to the retailers to sort out.
