Will elevation and ambient temp affect cars in GT5

Where do you get these numbers from? I'd like to see how you come up with that. I know in real life it makes a difference, but show me exactly how much. Again, this is a game. I think GT5 will be fine without this. There's way more things I'd want in the game before this..........

I can't find an official source right now, but they're approximate values from DIN 70020 correction factors on engine power in a spreadsheet I have.
Try searching for "DIN 70020 correction factor".

This isn't the DIN70020 air correction factor formula I used, but should be similar:

I still don't think this is an important feature that needs to be in GT5. Don't you think that time would be better spent on improving the damage models, adding a few more premium cars, or improving the physics or weather even further?

I'd take a higher Premium count over any weather. I will keep a few AWD cars for the rain though :) I am especially interested in the underpowered Audi cars for rain driving. Any underpowered car for that matter. Not that I don't welcome weather and temp effects...hmm mabey I do. Not really sure I haven't played the game yet.

A steep and long hill climb event would be interesting for getting a car specific "feel" for these effects. I'm definetly going to experiment with the track generator.

If it was to be implemented, it would stop the dominance of the Japanese mutant tuned racers (1000hp skylines and supras ect) as the cars would overheat after one topspeed run like most of them do. Tuning cars like that is like overclocking a laptop, theyll work great for a while, right up until the point where they get too hot and bothered and go BOOM!

premium car count over weather
Don't forget that:
- Those in charge of the physics engine are not involved in premium car modeling
- There is more than one person who programs the physics
- Several aspects of the game physics at once are developed at the same time in a proper workflow

I understand that there are different depertments working together for the whole of the GT series evolution not just the current title. You can't assign guy "a" to department "c". With KY it's big picture IE: lifetime achivement. Whatever they deliver is what I am meant to play. I accept and appreciate the experience. Thats the only realistic thing you can do other that participate on forums like this where your views might get taken in to consideration.

Fair enough but i'll guess that half of the threads in these GT5 forums are best suited for a GT6 area.

At least my interest here is split. We are mostly talking about a game that hasn't come out with very limited information revealed. All that is known is already talked about. Seeing we are passing time till GT5 comes out I feel a GT6 forum would better direct readers and posters accuratley for what they would like to read up on.

Pretty much theres a lot of stuff that could be in a GT6 thread including much banter.

If we had a GT6 forum, we would just have more garbage. What feature should come next in GT6, 35 car wishlists (which all have the same cars repeated in them), 41 track wishlists (same story), completely pointless threads about how every real life attribute should be in the game. In the end, it's a game, and games can never ever mimic real life 100%. From what we've learned about GT5 so far, I'm more than happy with it and will enjoy it as a racing simulator. I'm not looking for an alternate form of reality here, I'm looking for a fun racing game.

ok, ok.

I understand your point of wishlists and garbage. That tends to be the norm on any forum. It's too bad because with proper QA you could have a well engineered research area for PD's GT series development.

Well most of this wishlist and garbage is because some people have absolutely nothing else to do with their time while we want for GT5. I'm actually thinking the forums will erupt after release with everyone starting a new thread about how much they like this car, or how much they like this track. It'll happen, and it'll suck.

No worries, I'll be busy climbing the leaderboards:sly:

It would be great if those things affected the cars. I doubt it will happen for GT5. Cars in videogames now are too "perfect". Things like horsepower for a given car will remain the same now matter what track or temperature you're at. For computers to be able to include these variables as well as including everything else you're probably looking for PS6 generation lol.

Weather changes include temperature differences, air pressure changes, and humidity, affecting the surface conditions of the track dynamically.

I dont know about the cars engine power, but atleast it changes the track surface that should be fun! 👍

This happened on a WRC game on the Ps2 I forget which one now but i defiantly remember the car losing power the higher you went up in the mountains.

do turbo cars overheat more than NA cars in this game?

Well before you ask that, you might ask will cars overheat at all?

I wouldn't be bothered if this wasn't included but it would be welcomed if it was.

He asked if it would affect the cars. While yes the track is affected and if it rains the cars will be too but I believe he was asking about engine power and things like that which I doubt temperature and elevation will affect.

Yes but if they can make it affect the track, they can make it affect the car.

I'm assuming(maybe incorrectly) that tire temp is already in the game. If you start on cold tires that get more grip as they warm up then making ambient temp affect grip(and even HP) would be MUCH easier than you all seem to think. I don't get where u all get the notion that its so hard to add a simple ambient temperature variable to whatever equation they use for tire temp. That is, if there is one to begin with.

I'm almost certain tyre temperature will be included. People have noted from the demos that tyre grip suffers after a ride on the grass too. I have my doubts about a lot of wanted features, but I think we'll be nicely surprised in this area, with GT simulating all kinds of things we didn't expect.

Measuring tire temperature is essential to properly set up tire pressure and camber (this is important especially for NASCAR cars).
I hope we will be able to see it in detail like on most pc racing simulators.
(separated values for the inner, center and external portion of the tire, for each tire)
