my expectations damage weather and day night cycles and huge online experience..I hope so they will deliver them
anyon wants 2d tree in expectations?
Given that I don't really consider trees to be a focal point of the roadside scenery as I'm racing along at speed, as long as they look in proportion and the right colour, I couldn't care less.

I think HC fans like us will be pleased but common game media might not value high incrimental upgrades that GT does. In short some gaming journalist might think "anoher forza/GT type". In gaming media making good game is not enough, you have to make good game before someone else to really take the credit.

Hopefully we do not know much about GT5 and PD might blow the bank again :)

I wonder why KY didnt just put his foot down and keep HIS focus? I think even if he dropped an upscaled version of GT4 with some extra cars, tracks, good online environment, minus damage, weather and all the other extras people want; It wouldve sold like hotcakes anyway... I mean people wouldve have been disappointed, yes... But the real GT fans that come here often wouldve bought it FOR sure and I think bundled with PS3s it would have interested the casual gamer as well...

I think now with the raised expectation level there is WAY more room to disappoint than before... and that will be the downfall of the GT series... Which of course I hop doesnt happen... but you never know...

The problem is this game isn't being made to attract GT fans. Of the umpteen million that bought the last ones only a small minority of them will be actual fans, the rest (the vast majority of units sold) will be casual gamers who bought it cos the reviews and posters in the shops said "SHINY" and played it for a week before buying the next big thing that was marketed their way.

It's worth noting that Sony couldn't care less how long people play their games, other than it's enough so they don't feel ripped of and complain. A customer who buys it, plays it for a week then bins it is worth just as much to them (£45) as someone who buys it and plays it for the next decade.

Problem is an upscaled version of GT4 Which the fans would have lapped up would only have sold to those few fans who love the series. The mass market would have read the review which said "NOT SHINY! 1/10" and bought something else instead.

PD will never deliver on the expectations that get built up before every release. The game could be flawless and it will still disappoint people.

I'm still confused why people are saying this, what exactly do people want? No one here has even mentioned what they expect. Kaz hasn't made any outlandish promises about gameplay or physics, so i'm not sure what some GT fans have in mind when this game releases.

Sorry but no chance whatsoever. The game has been delayed far too many times, and with little or no real word from either PD or Sony about the games features it's been left to fanboys to fill in the gaps. So the idea of a track editor, full damage and weather features are things most people now expect.

Sorry folks, but this constant waiting in the dark is now beyond a joke. For GT5 to claw it back it will have to be perfect, and in my gaming life time of only 25 years I can count on the fingers of one hand how many perfect games there have been :(

Nah, the game will never deliver on expectations, not unless you weren't expecting much. 5 years of largely community driven hype (opposed to the actual devs driving hype with information, we get a tiny piece of information and the community extrapolates its own hype from it).

I really doubt it'll live up to expectations. Will it be a good game? Of course. Will it be a great game? Probably. Will it live up to expectations? Doubt it. Most people can't wait this long and NOT be slightly deflated by the results, regardless of how good are the results.

Some of us have realistic expectations. Others seem to have far fetched ideas about the capabilities of a PS3 an 10meg inet connection.

My expectations? Yes. I doubt it is too hard to have more cars, tracks, better graphics and physics than GT4. Expectations of everyone as a whole? Hahahahahahahahahaha.

Hahahahah. Haha... Ha. Not a chance, after seeing what some people are asking, and considering how long have people been waiting.

well to be honest i've been playing GT5P for 2 years now and it only has 4 tracks and i have 43 cars in my garage and I can't stop playing it so if it is GT5 P with 1000 cars then I'm happy I'm aiming really low to avoid dissapointment

Great idea! That is advise a lot of people should take, me included.

Kind of ironic considering your sig... :)

I dunno... doesn't work for me to give out free passes so I won't get dissapointed... it's kind of like lying to myself about what I want so I don't feel like I didn't get what I wanted... it doesn't really fix anything other than let me live in a comfortable lie.

well i understand what you are saying but I do believe PD made a mistake by implementing every single feature any one has ever wished for i mean the leap from GT4 to GT5 is very very epic and I do respect that but a gap of 6 years between 2 games is simply unacceptable but IMO the reason behind that is after the failure of MAG ans White night cronicles Granturismo is now the biggest Sony exclusive title so in other words it has to be perfect which is unfair because as a result it is taking a lot of time

What other racers do you own if you don't mind me asking.

Dirt 2 and Grid i don't have a PS3 in order to play Forza and although i have uncharted 2 ,Modernwarfare 2 and Assasins creed nothing really interests me more then GT5P why well i have no idea i love playing online in those games but GT5P is different :)

It's very different fro Dirt and Grid.

Not saying it will knock GT5p out of your favorite spot, but I would definitely try some other serious racing games (unfortunately they may require a 360) like Forza, RacePro, Toca 2 or 3 - (these are PS2 games so if you have BC PS3 you might be in luck for cheap too!) and on PC GTR, LFS and Iracing.

The reason being to see what similar types of games are doing. Right now the only competition you seem to have for GT on your console isn't really competition... it's like saying "I love this italian restaraunt" and then finding out the only other "Italian" you eat is Pizza Hut and the frozen dinner lasagna. The point being you might suddenly realize what GT is missing when you see what others have got going for them.

Simple, this long wait should produce all of these ...

Tried Forza 3, but with the choice of wheels i could not see how good forza is.
MS wheel was horrible, My fanatec Wheel broke in 2 days. Until Forza/MS can support Logitech wheels i do not think i would enjoy Forza as it should be.

reading your reply got me both thinking and hungry
:)
but i totally understand what you are saying and I do admit playing forza 2 at my friend's place was really fun and to be honest I'm really looking into buying Iracing but what i mean not all those features have to be implemented in GT5 if it was released with the release of the PS3 and all those amazing features should be implemented in GT6 and they can take all the time they wabt PD as all of us will be busy playing GT5 so in other words GT5 IMO should have been divided into 2 games:tup:

well, to answer the poll question exactly:

"Will KY/PD be able to deliver on the expectations?"

I know GT5 will amaze me, and will have things included in the game that I would have never thought to even ask for. So, in regards to the content of the game... Yes.

However, there is a ratio that all of us might (consciously or unconsciously) apply to GT5 when passing final judgement on it. That ratio is:

Time spent waiting for GT5 : Personal satisfaction with GT5

I think for many people, that ratio may be greater than 1:1 (e.g. 2:1) when the game comes out, and they may confuse that as not meeting expecations, but really it's a different thing.

okay, enough blabbering. Sorry.

I voted no based on everything that i know people expect from GT5.

I don't want to be a pessimist, but the media and also most of the fans are expecting miracles. I also expect that GT5 will be reviewed harshly (80-90%) due to the high expectations.

Let's list the expectations for a moment:

GT5 will have...

Realistic damage that's better than what we've seen so far in other games.
Mechanichal damage with the ability to blow tires, gearboxes, engines, brake fatigue, etc...

More than 1000 cars, only a handful of them been on previous GT's, most of them new.

Porsches, lots of them.

Revolutionary online system, with realistic slip stream, realistic collisions.

Enhanced carrear mode, longer and better than GT4. More and better license tests too.

Dynamic weather, with different types of rain, temperature affecting grip values, etc...

Custom liveries, "better than Forza".

Telemetry.

Lot's of DLC planned.

Bathurst, Road America, and a bunch of other new tracks.

F1 cars.

Skidmarks, rear lights, "4D" real time deforming trees and all that other minor stuff people moan about.

Pace cars, girls holding flags at the start and other things to improve the overall experience.

20 locations being one for each country and one being PD land. 70 tracks are unique, not counting reverses.

At least two new revolutionary features we don't know yet to have a nice surprise.

Rally point to point stages.

WRC, SuperGT and Nascar 2010 cars and drivers.

Full implementation of those series.

---------------

The expectations are almost a compilation of every wish list ever made about GT5, so for those expecting this, GT5 might be disappoiting.

If you are more like myself (Happy with GT5 being GT4 + online with better physics and graphics) then you will love it.👍

I'm looking forward to getting every car and tuning/modding it to my liking. As long as I can upgrade the cars, the game will deliver.
