No, because people will always expect more than what is reasonable. So until people just relax and enjoy the game there will be disappointment.

Pretty much this. It's happened with many games. Even if overall they are solid. It's not possible to live up to supernatural expectations.

That the game will not deliver on the expectations doesn't mean we won't enjoy it. Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 didn't deliver on my expectations, but I still played the hell out of it.

My sights are set pretty low, to be honest. I expect a bit of a graphics update, physics as good as, if not improved from GT4 and with regards damage and weather I couldn't really give more than a passing toss.

GT series has always been good enough to keep me playing for years. More of the same will do nicely. I just hope (as with every sequel to any good game) that they don't completely screw it up and with a formula like Gran Turismo it's hard to see how they could.

This is retarded, I am not sure how to even put into words how ridiculous this is, as well as the people defending it to the hilt. I think its actually the opposite of what people have always given Kaz credit for.
I think he did not have clear vision at all and was caught off guard when other products were effective with much less effort. The chair story is right on target, Kaz is building wooden chairs, they are awesome and some hard-behind customers fall all over their beauty. However the realist have bought an ergonomic Tempurpedic chair that is cheaper, quicker to make is actually more comfortable and allows us to do the one thing that anyone who buys any chair wants, to sit. I'll save the artful genius praise for actual artist, scientist, inventors etc... not some overzealous video game developer who thinks he's Warhol, its just a game Kaz 13 year old kids buy it.

You bring up an interesting point... I do see constantly the argument that previous performance is a garauntee of future results when that is just not true.

Great accomplishments are achieved by standing on the shoulders of giants. There is no question that KY and PD are giants of the industry, but the question definitely looms, can KY keep up with those who stand on his shoulders?

All i know is that even if the game is exactly like GT4, just more cars and 60fps/1080p

i would buy it in a heartbeat. It can´t possible be worse than GT4.
And you all know just how much you love GT4.
With that said, GT5 will be the best driving game ever to be produced for a console.

I agree with you:tup:

If we compare PD to a band then this is their 5th album. Unless there's been a massive battle against drugs or a death in the lineup the 5th album is rarely any cop, usually overproduced and either the same as the last 4, minus the soul or some really weird new direction that only the die hard fans have the stomach to listen to.

After all the childish ranting on this board, I'm not sure how many will admit to being blown away.

I'll be blown away if the game has implemented dynamic weather & day/night cycles flawlessly...

Until I see groundbreaking features, I would hesitate to call anything truly mind blowing.

There have been plenty of one hit wonder type bands that are really more like 2 or 3 album wonders.

And if you want to compare it to movies, which are arguably as similar if not more so than music to video games, it's not at all uncommon for sequals to degrade. Star Wars is about as perfect an example as I can think of...

Yes, he will be able to deliver to my expectations which are relatively well balanced, I want a decent GT mode, a bunch of cars and cool tracks to play in decent physics, and a funny online mode. Trees, windshield wipers, liveries an all those stuff are irrelevant to me, so no matter what's the result I'll be satisfied.

👍 Same here.

Seriously PD screw the skidmarks, reverse lights, horns and whatever else is requested.
Just give us the damn game!

I hope they can deliver the expectations, I really do.

so your expectation is " i wait 6 years to have gt4 in hd"..ok

After 6 years i want damage, weather and many more and i already know that they'll fail. ( as you i don't care about trees etc.)

Skidmarks: From what I think I see in the TT demo there's going to be more to track evolution than just skidmarks.

Reverse lights: I cannot find any regulations from any real circuit racing series that requires reverse lights, some require that the bulbs are removed from reverse lights though. So no reverse lights might actually be more realistic. Although there might be reverse lights on cars in the WRC events in the game.

Crossed_quad trees: Just watched the latest vid of the nurburgring and those trees looked pretty good to me.

Damage: We've only really seen some wip and can't say much although I have faith in PD on that.

variable weather, day/night cycles: would be cool to see especially in endurance events but not essential to the racing/gaming experience.

Lots of cars: 👍

20 locations and ~70 variations: maybe not the number expected but should be some pretty cool tracks in there.

3D and headtracking: Still not had much detail on the headtracking but I don't think it's going to be what most are expecting and while the 3D that's been shown at some shows has had some mixed response I think the two working together could be something special.

Physics: Like with damage, I have faith.

Sound: See physics.

Online: Gonna be fantastic 👍

So to answer the original question, I have no reason to think otherwise and I don't think anything has gone wrong.

This is certainly true of other racing game makers.

Codemasters, once a pretty darn good racing game maker, has gone absolutely EA. Now they're a joke.

Speaking of EA, NFS is just sad in every game they make, no matter how hard they try to get back to the sim direction.

I can't be bothered to look up who makes Project Gotham, but... ew.

Forza tries to be Gran Turismo but better, but Turn 10 invariably has some glaring deficiencies every game, most notably car models. And then they mess up something and release the game without fixing it. In F3's case, poor file handling and a poorly implemented public lobby system which worked pretty well in F2!

Eutechnyx does a decent job, but it's basically Forza 2.5 built around Ferraris with yucky driver views.

PC games have nice physics, but the A.I. is as bad as anything, the graphics are crap, and I'm just not satisfied with the experience. Plus, you have basically a handful of pure race cars in limited classes which you can only customize graphically if you crack open the files with a compatible PC art program. And in the case of iRacing, you basically rent the game, which quickly gets expensive.

Does any racing game really meet expectations?

I guess you're capable to see that your answer doesn't have much to do with my post, we would have damage and weather even if the game released now, the release date was pushed to ensure revenue for sony and that's all. PD then, is using this extra time to add some more features and weather and damage were been in development for a long time, so they have nothing to do with the release date.

I was trying to say that they could stop perfecting irrelevant details like trees, wipers, skidmarks and spectators, weather and damage are major features, so your quotes doesn't aplly to my post.

Of course they wont. You will see a lot of people complaining about one thing or another because they arent getting their own way lkike a spoilt little child.

KY/PD are their own worst enemy, with all of the constant delays peoples expectations go up and with the team sayin constantly 'we want it perfect' these expectations increase exponentially especially when there's practically no info from the devs at all over such a huge time frame now.

It seems to me that no matter what eventually drops it will be deemed as a disappointment to an awfull lot of people out there and it could have all been avoided if the team had been more open with regards to information to its loyal fans over the years.

Me personally, i dont know what to expect anymore its been so long and ive had so many thoughts on what i'd like from the game i really dont know how i feel about it anymore.

Ditto, except at this point I doubt being "open" would matter much since after 5+years (6 or more possibly before release) the kitchen sink is already a justified expectation.
