You bring up an interesting point... I do see constantly the argument that previous performance is a garauntee of future results when that is just not true.
This is certainly true of other racing game makers.
Codemasters, once a pretty darn good racing game maker, has gone absolutely EA. Now they're a joke.
Speaking of EA, NFS is just sad in every game they make, no matter how hard they try to get back to the sim direction.
I can't be bothered to look up who makes Project Gotham, but... ew.
Forza tries to be Gran Turismo but better, but Turn 10 invariably has some glaring deficiencies every game, most notably car models. And then they mess up something and release the game without fixing it. In F3's case, poor file handling and a poorly implemented public lobby system which worked pretty well in F2!
Eutechnyx does a decent job, but it's basically Forza 2.5 built around Ferraris with yucky driver views.
PC games have nice physics, but the A.I. is as bad as anything, the graphics are crap, and I'm just not satisfied with the experience. Plus, you have basically a handful of pure race cars in limited classes which you can only customize graphically if you crack open the files with a compatible PC art program. And in the case of iRacing, you basically rent the game, which quickly gets expensive.
Does
any racing game really meet expectations?
