If it can be after the 19th that would be great. I will have finished my exams then so free time is aplenty. I should be able to get another friend of mine in as well so I guess that makes 3 of us.

If anybody wants to join in, will be having a Bling Brigade attempt at 6pm UK time tonight (6th December).

If you can join please post here/add me.

I looked up the bling brigade trophy, but I'm not sure what it means by eight players with campaign skins. I've unlocked most of the WipEout HD regular skins.

edit: apparently I've beaten the HD campaign and unlocked all of the HD skins and forgot about it. I assume it's the shiny chrome ones. I'm up for it.

You just need to have the chrome skins. Excellent I think we should definitely have 8 people (have this meet posted on a few forums).

I'm gonna lift this old thread again. I just got Playstation Plus which means Wipeout HD for free. I haven't played any Wipeout game before except a few minutes of the original I played in the store in the 90's. The first few races went well. All golds in first and second location. But when I got to the third it started to be difficult. I have really big problems with the race in the bottom right corner. I have tried different vehicles, easiest difficulty and the race help thing turned on. Still I have only managed 6th place as best. I'm usually good on racing games. Is the game so hard or is it me?

It's been a while since I've played, but: It took me some time to get used to it. Just keep in mind that you have near zero friction when you turn and the shoulder buttons can move you laterally without turning your nose. Also, learning your tracks well so that you can be placed properly for power ups and boosts is a huge bonus.

Do you mean the Sebenco Climb track?

It does take a bit of getting used to... you really need to get the hang of the air brakes (L2 and R2) and side-shifting (double-tapping L2 or R2) for a few of the really tight corners. You also need to learn the circuit and hit those speed pads.

Also, use Feisar or another vehicle with good handling for Sebenco. If in doubt, always use Feisar ;)

It is a hard circuit, but you will get there with a bit of practice. I've completed the game on Elite difficulty and just tried running this race and finished 6th :P

Ok so that track is like the peak of difficulty? If so I could leave it for later and gain some more experience from the other events.

It is one of the two hardest, although it depends on the speed class IMO - I find Chenghou Project hardest of all on any speed class, but I find Sol 2 is horrible at Phantom speed. Sebenco is challenging too, but it doesn't have any ridiculously tight corners, unlike Chenghou! But yeh, it's a good idea to move on to another race if you're getting stuck, and you can also practice the track in Racebox (Arcade) mode to get used to it without other folks on the track. Despite the difficulty, Sebenco is probably my favourite circuit. Once you get the hang of it, you can stick in a couple of barrel rolls (you can fit one in over the crest immediately after Turn 1 usually) and also figure out where to use the Turbo Boost pick ups most effectively 👍

Ok first thing first, TURN OFF PILOT ASSIST. It works fine at the start but does a better job of ruining your rhythm than getting you to finish in a high position.

Also two things to remember:

1. both the analogue stick and l2/r2 help you steer. Start by using one (I personally used the analogue stick but others I know use the air brake) then use the other in combination for tighter corners.

2. Especially in the faster classes double tapping gets more useful. I didn't use it so much in Wipeout HD but in Wipeout Pulse I found out how useful it can be and transfered that back to Wipeout HD.

The AI aren't the easiest in chengou project. I personally had more trouble on sebenco but either way leave the race for now and get back to it later. Do the time trials/hot laps first. They are always easiest and familiarise you with the speed of the ships and any new tracks you may come accross.

What's this game like? Loved the first 2 on PS1, especially Wipeout 2097. Every one I played since has been a bit naff, but the first PSP one was alright. The PS2 one was terrible. I need a new Wipeout in my collection and so want it to be as good as 2097.

EDIT: Okay, since nobody replied to the above, I just went ahead and got it anyway. Loving it, but am a bit dissappointed with the music. The thumping tunes that were in the PSone originals by the likes of Orbital, Prodigy, and Chemical Brothers really hightened the experience. Haven't heard anything in Wipeout HD that matches them as yet.

You can always make your own playlist with the music you want 👍

WipEout HD is my favourite PS3 game by a country mile, and custom playlists have played a big part in that. That said, after I completed the last Fury mission, I stopped playing it quite as much, and never really got into the online community as other games started to put demands on my limited gaming time. I reckon once GT5 comes out (and F1 2010), WipEout HD might struggle for time... hence I'm glad I put in the hours when I did! It is the kind of game that you can get good at quickly, but it takes a real effort to raise your game to the required level to beat the hardest races...

Yeah, just discovered that feature, thanks. I now have a playlist with stuff from Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, Orbital...basically most of the artists that made the original soundtracks so good. In fact, I remember there was an album of the Wipeout 2097 soundtrack released. Might try to hunt that down.

Zone mode is nuts. I can barely make it past zone 20, even on the easiest tracks :dopey:

On most normal tracks that is already very good but if you have fury? Then you could try Syncopia? :D its like Anulpha Pass but then even easier.

How long have you been practicing? (with good music? hehe)

Strangest thing was, the zone 75 trophy... i struggled with it even on syncopia but then one day, i was showing wipeout to a friend, and just started on syncopia in zone mode, totally not focussing on performing ... yet before i knew it i was at zone 50 and got to 75+. :odd:

Haven't played Fury's tracks in Zone yet, and I've only been playing it for about 90 minutes (bought it late this afternoon)

Then youre already pretty good for 90 minutes experience 👍

Ignore if you already did this, but did you already put off the pilot assist? It slows you down extremely much?

Nah, I haven't switched it off yet. I played Wipeout 3 a crapload back in the day so I know the ins and outs of Wipeout games (basic controls, strategy, that sort of stuff), but I've got the assist on while I get used to the HD/Fury engine and the new ships. :)

Jeez, this game is so addictive. Got a thumping good custom playlist to go with my sessions. Easily the best Wipeout I've played since 2097 on the PS1. Although, I can't see why it wasn't released as a launch title on disc to go with the PS3 - every incarnation of the Playstation has had a Tekken, Ridge Racer and Wipeout game to go with them. Maybe it's just progress. Looking forward to Studio Liverpool's future Wipeout games, or maybe they will keep updating this one like Criterion did with Burnout Paradise? Either way it's a brilliant game. The best arcade racing game on PS3 bar NONE.

👍

It's also an incredible bargain... WipEout HD was only £11.99, the Fury expansion £7.99, and the two together on PSN are even less than those two prices combined.

The thing I love about the game the most is that if you don't like some aspect of it, there is so much more to get on with and enjoy, and single player mode is a real challenge... the AI in this game is brutal - great for a lasting challenge, but it does occasionally drive you to the very edge of sanity. Oh no, I've said too much...

That track with the huge drop after an uphill right turn, which then goes around almost like you're inverted - forgot it's name since I haven't memorised the names of the tracks yet. I play it on my 46" Samsung 1080p LCD tv. I tell you I almost soiled myself the first time I played it. Is it the Metropia track? I'll have to put it on again after I write this. Never in the history of a Wipeout game have I seen a more thrilling rollecoaster ride selection of tracks. Utterly mesmerising. Easily Studio Liverpool's best game to date. And I am a huge fan of 'serious' racing sims and I regard their F1:CE as the best one of that type on the PS3.
It's interesting that. The best 'serious' racing game on PS3(until GT5) and the best arcade racing game on PS3 - both by the same developers.

I just got the Wipeout HD Combo Pack myself and I would like to race with some of my fellow GTPlanet members on it online. Interested? Drop me a message on PSN. ;)

I guess I'll revive the thread after people will be downloading it from the Welcome Back package. I've had my first race, a Zone session and wow, was it fun :D. Managed to get to Zome 29 on Pro Tozo

I've been meaning to download the game for a while, and now that it is free, along with it's DLC, I couldn't pass it up. I'm downloading it right now and am anxious to play after reading all the posts praising it.

Got to Zen (Zone 31) on Anulpha Pass. Then I crashed straight away. I reckon you're legendary if you can make it to zone 100 or something!
