Working on the "Perfect Game"...

Hazzard, you are insane, and I applaud you for it!

A couple of quick questions:

1. When you say that you'll re-run a series without saving if you don't win the car that you need, are you loading from your previous save before re-trying? I assume this is the case, because otherwise, you'd have more mileage.

2. When you are running license tests, do you also reload from a previous save point if you don't get gold?

Thanks, eat! Yeah, I really do feel insane sometimes while driving for this game. I find myself periodically asking "Why am I doing this???"

But, everytime, I come up with the same answer... IT'S FUN AS HELL!!

A couple of not-so-quick answers:

1. For series races, I always make sure that the car I'm using can beat the field for EVERY race. This requires a lot of pre-save test driving... But once that's done, I'll save after each part of the series, until the last race. So, if I don't get the car I want, I'll only have to re-run the final race. When the sim mode game is saved in the middle of a series and rebooted with the memory card still in it, PS2 will load GT3 automatically to that spot (it won't even give the option of playing the arcade mode until you quit the series). For instance, I used the Viper GTSR Concept for the Polyphony Digital Cup, saved after the 9th race, and had to race the 10th like 8 times before I finally got the F094/S.
For endurance races, I just have to do the whole thing over again until I get it right (I did the Trial Mountain 2hr 3 or 4 times before winning the F094/H)

2. For license tests, the sim mode will add a day as soon as you enter the specific test. So in order to use the fewest days possible, it's either get the gold or consider it a test run (non-saved). For my current game (3rd gamesave, 2nd "perfect" attempt), I've been able to get through each test without having to revisit it later... for now.

Hope this helped. Have a great drive!

Hey hazzard or anyone else who has done arcade mode do you cars to your garage from time trials or the single race i noticed you mentioned something about it i was just wonder how that works. Thanks for any and all help.

Hi there, Sup!

For the Arcade Mode, I mostly used the Arta NSX and Ford Focus Rally Car. When the 787B was finally "unlocked", I used that car to finish the rest of the Professional (L1 + R1) races... It runs faster than the NSX and takes less time to complete (you will, as a result, get a more competitive field (Toyo GT1, Nissan R390)).

On my first attempt at the "perfect gamesave", I did the Arcade Mode stuff first, so I didn't have any cars in my garage to use for the Arcade Mode single races. I did notice, however, that doing so added miles to the vehicle, as well as for the Game Status total mileage. This is undesireable, with respect to my "perfect" qualifications, so I used the non-garage vehicles instead.

I hope this helps.. Have a great drive!

And good luck to it man (yeah) ;)

Thanks for the encouragement, K!

I race Automatic, for all driving. I use the Dualshock 2 that came with my console (I still can't believe I haven't SMASHED that thing after now my 2nd attempt at license golds), alternating between using the keypad and joystick to steer. I started out using the joystick, but have migrated toward more keypad use.

While using auto might seem crazy, I find it easier to manage than a manual transmission. With so much to pay attention to, I figured I didn't need one more variable to watch for (that red dot for the shift indicator). One thing I MUST mention... some of the license tests saw HUGE benefit by supressing upshift (pressing L2 when the auto tranny would've shifted). I often found that there were times the car would shift mid-turn, or just as it started a slight incline. Supressing upshift kept the car at a high rev rate, (seemingly) within the proper torque range... I didn't feel the need to do so while racing competitively.

Have a great drive!

Hey Hazzard,

Well just wante to know because I to is trying to make (my) perfect game. And I only use Automatic, with the Dualshock 2 that came with my PS2. ;)

Well my (perfect) game
Is to have a 100% win ratio.
To have Gold in all lincense and races.
To have a 100% (in the end)
And to have all the cars you can't buy. :D
...............................................................
Well Good luck on your 3rd game now
and burn som rubber :P

For the 80s races, I planned on using the SKYLINE GT-R Vspec II(R32,J), from the Beginner/GT World Championship. I chose this car because I would be using it for the Red Emblem races as well.

With the right tunings, it can win these races easily (doesn't require it to be fully loaded either).

... I've got the last 2 S tests, and all of R left to go for my licenses. So far it's taken me around 656 minutes over 4 days (this is my 2nd attempt at all-gold). Last time it took me 3 weeks to get all of 'em.

Have a great drive, everyone!

After 27 attempts, I finally got my S8 gold (1.29.480). I thought it was pretty good, until I checked some internet GT3 db's. Oh well.. Nobody's perfect :)

Now for the Rally tests...

This is taking me a LOT less time than it did the first time I went for all gold. It's been about 757 minutes driving time over the last 5 days to get 40 of them suckers. R8 took me around 3 days on my previous "perfect" attempt.

So, I'm on day 41 (3rd game, 2nd attempt at "perfect"), and here are my numbers...

Game Started: 8/24/02 12:35p PST
Day 41
Cr: 18000
Complete: 5.3%
Prize Total: 0
Wins: 0
Races: 0
Win Ratio: 0.0%
Licenses Acquired: S,- (40,0,0)
Cars Owned: 5
Total Mileage: 0.0 miles
Total Car Value: 1203280
Bonus Cars Acquired: 5
Trophies Acquired: 0

Well, time to take a little break, but I might sneek another peek at the rally tests. Once I start the R8 test, expect not to hear from me for a while. :(

Have a great drive!

[*edit - MY THUMBS ARE FREAKIN KILLIN ME!!!;)]

Well, after 905 minutes of playing time over the last 6 days, I've finally gotten all license golds... for the 2nd time. My first time took me nearly 3 weeks.

I thought R8 would take me at least a day, but I just did it after 23 attempts.

Notables...

25+ mins to get gold: - A7 (73 attepmts, 30 mins) - IA1 (32 attempts, 26 mins) - IA3 (124 attempts, 68 mins) - IA5 (98 attempts, 52 mins) - S2 (42 attempts, 31 mins) - S3 (14 attempts, 36 mins) - S4 (32 attempts, 45 mins) - S5 (37 attempts, 95 mins) - S6 (146 attempts, 89 mins) - S7 (41 attempts, 75 mins) - S8 (27 attempts, 32 mins) - R6 (86 attempts, 55 mins) - R8 (23 attempts, 34 mins)

10 attempts or less: B1, B2, B3, B4, B6, B7, A1, A2, A4, A5, IB1, IB2, IB5, IB6, IB7, IA2, IA4, IA7, IA8, S1, R2

I'm gonna buy one more memory card, and save it as a "stock" game. I might just overwrite my friends' and buy later if he lets me...

Anyway, I'm freaking stoked this thing is done. Next up is a lot of planning, and a LOT of thumb rest! Anyway, time to break and chill...

Have a great drive!

OOPS! forgot to post my numbers...

LOL! I'm never too sure if I'm OK.. All I know is I have a lot of fun!. As far as the history stuff... I'm doing a lot of this for myself, just to see if I can put up with it and do it. I hear a lot of "anyone can do it", but I don't see any other threads like this one. It's really more of an internalized competition, ya know? Like golf.. Is there such thing as a "perfect" round?? I bet golfers probably know a lot more about racing than most would think.

OK, so here's the deal... My 2nd attempt at "perfection" is still on day 49 (still where I was on post 72: only licenses completed). Before I even get into a car, I needed to back up my game to another card, and do some redefining of what my goals were. So after 2 days, here's what I came up with.

Goals for my "perfect" game, in order of priority:
1. Complete 100% in the minimum number of Sim mode days (228 - 48 days for all licenses; 49 days for Beginner League races; 48 days for Amateur League races; 43 days for Professional League races; 30 days for Rally races; 10 days for Endurance races)
2. Complete the game, purchasing the minimum of vehicles, and never sell a car (2 - the Tuscan Speed Six and a Mercedes (the SLK 230 Kompressor))
3. Use the minimum number of vehicles to achieve 100% (I plan on using 17 as of now)
4. Put the minimum number of miles on vehicles used. This means stopping each race just after crossing the finish line, so I will only record finishing times for all opponents for certain races ("notable finishes").
5. Prize cars... Win as many unpurchasable cars as possible. If more than one unpurchasable car is available, take the higher resale value. If they have the same resale value, take the one that has the most mods available. If both have the same mods available, take the one with the higher HP. Try not to repeat "unique" cars.
6. Spend as few Cr as possible.

By the time I get 100%, I hope to have: 100% win ratio; no repeat races; 103 cars in my garage (only 2 for which I HAD to pay, 0 cars sold); all golds for licenses; all golds for time trials; As many unpurchasable cars as possible, with the highest resale (garage) value; ALL F1 cars (types, not colors); the most # of mint condition cars (without purchasing more than 2); and as much money as a stingy racer can hoarde!!! Id est.. my "perfect" gamesave.

The way I see things now, there are a few cars I know I WILL NOT be able to get until after I reach 100%:
Chevrolet Camaro Race Car --- I have to get the Audi TT 1.85 quattro instead from the Amateur/American Championship series
Volkswagen Lupo Cup Car, Opel Astra Touring Car --- I have to give up one of these cars to get the other from the Amateur/German Touring Car Challenge series
Ford GT40, Nismo GT-R R-Tune, Mine's GT-R-N1 V-spec --- I'll be getting the Raybrig NSX, a more valuable car, from the Amateur/All Japanese Championship
LOCTITE ZEXEL GT-R --- I'll be getting the DENSO SARO SUPRA GT instead from the Amateur/All Japanese Championship. The ZEXEL does not have ANY mods available, and I'll be getting the ARTA NSX elsewhere.
Either the Mugen S2000, or the Spoon Sports S2000 --- depending on which is more valuable, I'll get one or the other, but not both (Anybody know?).
Two of: Ford GT40 Race Car, Opel Calibra Touring Car, Jaguar XJ220 Race Car --- I'll be able to get one of these 3, depending on which is more valuable (Anybody know?).
Nissan C-WEST RAZO SILVIA --- A weird situation, but I'm giving this car up in order to get 3 others: FTO LM Race Car, IMPREZA LM Race Car, and RX-7 LM Race Car instead.

And, before I start, I just needed to mention that there are 3 assumptions on which ALL of this is based... (edit - as of 10/7/02, these assumptions are no longer a concern)

1. I'm assuming that I'll be awarded an F688/S for getting all golds in Simulation Mode, but I'm not 100% sure. I've seen it on this and other sites as "Gran Turismo Mode", and I have no clue what that means! Unfortunately, I had already overwritten my 1st gamesave where the Formula GT was all I had left, so I could never confirm this. But Regardless, if it isn't, I can always get one from an Endurance Race.
2. I'm assuming that the "IMPREZA LM EDITION" is the same car as the "IMPREZA LM Race Car". This and other sites have this potential misnomer, but I went to the official playstation GT3 site, and it only lists the "IMPREZA LM Race Car". This doesn't have that much impact, as it's a prize car for an Endurance race.
3. I'm assuming that the "Spoon Sports S2000" from the Amateur/Type-R Meeting is a different car than the "Spoon Sports S2000 Race Car (the blue and yellow one) from the Amateur/Stars & Stripes. This one's not that high impact, as it's a one-or-the-other choice for the Am/Type-R anyway.

Well, that's where I am right now. Licensed to ill with a lot of racing to do! Day 49 and I'm still not even in a car! :)

Anyway, I hope everyone had as great of a weekend as I did. Have a great drive!

Hazzard

Maybe, just maybe...

If I end up doing all this, I'll get... (drumroll)

The Diablo???

LOL! Who knows? Regardless, this is what I'm gonna try...

Have a great drive!

Four things to add, and one small request, RoadHazzard.

One: I'd lean more towards the GT40 as it runs nicely in the Pro MR races. The XJ220 is highly overrated, although the Opel Calibra isn't a bad car.

Two: For the Clio trophy, you win a Beetle Cup car.

Three: I'd lean towards the Mugen S2000 as it allows a bit more horsepower than the Spoon S2000

Four: Good luck winning the Clio Race car, The onlyplace I found to win it was the super speedway enduro. That's not something I would look forward to running multiple times.

One Request: can you turn on the ability to PM you? I have a very interesting link containing info you might find very useful.

Thanks
Best of luck.

Still very impressed with this effort. The Game Developers should have a hidden easter egg for anybody that completes this perfect game scenario...wishing you luck and keep us updated on your progress

Hi K! I planned on using the F687/S for the MR races. If there's a way to win Formula GT without an F1 car, this might change...

But for now, that's what's scheduled to run...

1 - yeah, I actually like the GT40 (both road and race versions), but I also like the Raybrig NSX. There's a chance I might be getting the GT40 Race Car from the Pro/GT World Champ, but I might get a more expensive car instead. As much as I like the GT40 (something about S2 made it grow on me), I got to stick to my "perfect" priorities, and get the most garage value out of the "unique" prize cars I win. So if the Opel Calibra or Jaguar XJ220 Race Car is more valuable, I'm afraid I won't be able to get this car, ever.

2 - Really??? My list shows it as a "Volkswagen Beetle Cup Racer", which I assumed was different than the "Volkswagen Beetle Cup Car". If I can get the Beetle Cup Car from the Clio race, then I can use the Am/German Touring Car Challenge to get either the Astra or Lupo Cup Car (probably the Astra (more valuable)). I'll look into this... (I just bought a Clio Race Car for testing (no saving), and am gonna run through it as quick as I can).

3 - I got the Mugen S2000 the last time I ran it. I just need to check on car values and mods (if they have the same value). Again, I'm gonna stick to my "priorities" of getting the most car value out of the unique prize cars I'm awarded.

4 - Yeah, getting that Clio Race Car might be a hassle, but if I remember correctly from the first time I ran it, it was the one most often selected "randomly". No sweat either way. On my last game, I ran the Trial Mountain Endurance like 6 or 7 times before I got the F094/H!

I'll try the PM thingy.. I have to look into it and see what it is first! Try in a little while...

Anyway, Thanks for the tips, DA!

Have a great drive, everyone!

Hazzard

NICE! The Professional/Clio Trophy awards the "New Beetle Cup Car", not some "New Beetle Cup Racer(?)".

Thanks for the clue-in, DA! Since I already over-wrote my 1st game (one where I already did the Clio Trophy), I wasn't sure if this was the same car or not. Now I can use the German Touring Car Challenge to get the Opel Astra Touring Car instead!!!

This saved me a hell of a lot of frustration! Thanks again for the wonderful tip!

Have a great drive, everyone!

10 attempts or less: B1, B2, B3, B4, B6, B7, A1, A2, A4, A5, IB1, IB2, IB5, IB6, IB7, IA2, IA4, IA7, IA8, S1, R2

Oh my ... Simply Amazing. S2 in 31 minutes for the Gold. I know you have done this before but I am still shocked at these numbers. 15 hours roughly to get all golds in the licenses....IMPRESSIVE SIR :)

After 7 attempts over 459 minutes (this was my 3rd day trying), I **FINALLY** got the F687/S (black Polyphony Elf #15) from Endurance/Seattle 100 Miles. I got the Esperante 3 times, the ZZ twice, and the GT-R LM once before it gave me the car I NEEDED!

This is the first race I've completed for my "perfect" game, and I figured I should go for the cars I'm gonna use off the bat. So, I got in the Viper GTSR Concept, and headed straight for the track. I knew the Viper could wipe the field, but was a bit worried about how many times it'd take to get that F1... after 280 laps, I think I've gotten a little better.. with this car.. on this track. lol

The final attempt's numbers: (Finishing Position) Vehicle [Starting Position]

(1) Viper GTSR Concept [6]
(2) Corvette Z06 [4]
(3) Mustang SVT Cobra R [3]
(4) Corvette GRAND SPORT [2]
(5) Camaro Z28 [5]
(6) Cobra [1]

Total race time: 1.04.54.240 (my best of the 7 attempts (-13.143))
Best lap time: 1.32.105 (2nd best of 7 attempts (+0.483))
Pitted after lap: 8, 17, 24, 32

I'd like to complete the Endurance Races as soon as possible, because winning prize cars from series races won't take as long after a failure. The next car I want to work on is the ALTEZZA LM Race Car from Endurance/Laguna Seca 200, but I'm considering running the Formula GT race instead (to use a fresh car).

Well, it's time to give my thumbs a big rest! Although.. testing the F687/S is quite tempting... ;]

Anyway, here are my numbers...

Day 50
Cr: 168000
Complete: 9.3%
Prize Total: 150000
Wins: 1
Races: 1
Win Ratio: 100%
Licenses Acquired: S,R (48,0,0)
Cars Owned: 7
Total Mileage: 150.1 "miles" (km)
Total Car Value: 2703280
Bonus Cars Acquired: 7
Trophies Acquired: 1

Cars With Mileage:
Viper GTSR Concept (93.8 miles; 498 hp)

Well, I hope those other prize cars come easier... Seattle is one of the shorter Endurance races :embarrassed:

Anyway, have a great drive!

Hazzard

Well, I've decided to jump in head-first and go for the Pro/Formula GT (I've only done Endurance/Seattle so far). I've spent around 6 hours over the last 3 days testing the F687/S, and I think I can sweep this series... but only after a lot of road time.

I don't know yet if I'll be keeping this one stock or if I'll give it a pre-reace oil change. My test runs have been with it stock, to help simulate the engine wear I expect by the time I go for the end races. If I remember correctly, the oil light went on somewhere on lap 9 of race 3 for the F094/S. I wonder if different cars have different engine wear characteristics...

The first 6 races can be won handily, but it took me the last 3 days to nail down Laguna Seca, Apricot Hill, and Cote d'Azur to where I could beat the field (including the F094/S). I have to mention... MY FREAKING THUMBS FREAKING HURT!!! OUCHIE POO!!! lol

My pit schecule for the 3 tough races is as follows:

33 Laps @ Laguna Seca: pit after laps 6, 12, 18, 24, 30
27 Laps @ Apricot Hill: pit after laps 5, 10, 15, 21
78 Laps @ Cote d'Azur: pit after laps 8, 16, 24, 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 71

OK, time to go back into my hole and knock this baby out. I am DREADING the time I'll be spending having to re-race Monaco to get the F090/S!!! Thank goodness I already know it's position on the prize carousel (9 o' clock).

I also have to mention a big thanks to the people who contribute to this forum. I got a lot out of the "The Final Race" thread, as well as from Der Alta. It's been a great reference, even though I'll be using a different car.

Anyway, have a great drive everyone!

Hazzard

Just my luck... I was hoping to go against the F094/S, but the draw gave me the F094/H instead. During my test runs, I was going against all 3 F0's... oh well. I think I still raced a pretty good one...

I'm in the black F687/S (Poly Elf #15 + oil change, default settings), and I actually decided that this will be one of a few race series where I'll let all cars finish. It might add up to about 10-12 miles by the end of the series.

Professional/Formula GT: 30 Laps @ Mid-Field Raceway
(Finishing Position) Vehicle [Starting Position] = total race time

(1)F687/S black [6] = 29.34.515 (best 55.061)
(2)F094/H [2] = 29.35.165 (+ 2 laps)
(3)F686/M [1] = 29.47.454 (+ 2 laps)
(4)F090/S [3] = 30.15.871 (+ 2 laps)
(5)F687/S green [4] = 30.16.279 (+ 2 laps)
(6)F688/S [5] = 30.29.609 (+ 2 laps)

I pitted after laps 7, 15, and 23

So, after leg 1 on Day 50, here are my numbers...

Cr: 197750
Complete: 9.5%
Prize Total: 180000
Wins: 2
Races: 2
Win Ratio: 100%
Licenses Acquired: S,R (48,0,0)
Cars Owned: 7
Total Mileage: 150.1 "miles" (km)*
Total Car Value: 2703280
Bonus Cars Acquired: 7
Trophies Acquired: 2

* - this is the same reading I had before I won the first leg of the series... weird...

Anyway, time for sleepy pie. I guess the rest will have to wait. Have a great drive, everyone!

Hazzard

Ahhh...Looks good. Glad to know the time and effort I put into the compendium, is doing some good.

A few additional notes: It's likely you'll run up well over a thousand miles in this series alone.

As for when the oil light comes on...You can calculate it out. 189 miles. I've never nailed it down to a tenth yet, but Captain Kirk (Who I haven't seen in a while) was the credited discoverer.

Good luck

Thanks again for the great reference, DA! Be assured that your time and efforts did NOT go to waste!

Yeah, I think I remember reading Captain's post on the oil light. It's just weird that cars will reach that point (in the same series) at different times. I wonder how much pitting has to do with the differential (I notice yours went on for the F094/S during race 4). I figured there'd be a lot of miles put on the F687/S, so I may as well use it fresh for the Formula GT series.

Anyway, I got Race #2 ready to go (40 laps @ Seattle). I'm gonna knock this one out asap, and get back in a little...

Have a great drive, everyone!

PS - just had to mention... 9/11/01... I remember.

Peace!
