How so? They're both compact sedans. One of them just happened to be made during the 1960s.
Okay, in one very broad way.
Of course I'm in no way suggesting something that even remotely resembles an early version be brought back--models should run their course--I feel names like Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, Corvette, 300, 500 (Fiat, the Ford was blissfully short-lived), Mini (well maybe not Mini itself, as it's a marque (even if it
is a BMW subsidiary), but model designations such as Clubman and similar), Giulia/Giulietta and Beetle have been around entirely too long regardless of what sort of vehicle they adorn. BMW and Mercedes-Benz are tricky as their numerical naming convention limits progression beyond the less utilized chassis codes. Porsche isn't exempt either, however, it's in a similar boat as the aforementioned German companies and moderate exclusivity (it's not like hundreds of thousands of dads are buying their teenage daughters convertible 911s when they get their license) lessens the blow--but I'd still be in favor of breaking tradition.
Clearly I'm not sentimental. I have little against (and in some cases appreciate immensely--consider the number of Beetles I've posted elsewhere in this sub-forum) most of the original models, and those that I dislike I dislike due in part to the name being around so long. I've even stated that I'd readily take models that used the same mechanicals as the ones I dislike (Nova in lieu of Camaro, Falcon in lieu of Mustang, Demon in lieu of Challenger) simply because they were here and now they're gone.
(This wasn't a rant, mind you, rather me expanding on my previous post because it was raised.)
