WRC 5

I just got it yesterday. I found a decent sale, so it was about 50% off regular price. The FFB felt pretty good with the T300. I didn't like the vibration though, so I turned that off. I found the cars to be too tail happy though. But the only 4WD car I tried was the WRC Concept in the rally school, so I hope that car's handling was not representative of all the 4WD cars. Or maybe I just have to balance more power to the front in the diff settings when I get to it.

I was playing on medium difficulty, and the AI times are kind of strange. I finished the very first stage in career, and finished first by something like a second. But I wanted to do the stage again so I retried. The second time I finished the stage about 10 seconds faster, but I still only won by like a second. Seemed kind of rubberbandy.

I found it to be rubbish with a wheel (as you say far to tail happy) and the AI adjusts its times to let you win.

Over all its not a patch on SLRE or DR.

Glad I wasn't the only one then. I'll spend more time on it though.

First WRC6 footage and I have to agree with Alan from team VVV. Huge improvement from these early looks. Graphics look a lot nice and I love the sense of speed from the bonnet. Promising so far indeed!

I finished the first JWRC season. I think it's pretty good. It's a lot more challenging than the Milestones games. The stages and handling are both more challenging. Seems a lot more sim like to me. I still think the AI adjusting their time to yours is pretty stupid. And as many mentioned before, the pace notes suck. They are often not delivered in time. And when they are, they are often not particularly accurate. I'm generally not particularly bothered by low quality graphics, so I think it's fine in that regard.

I finished the first season of WRC-2 yesterday, and did the first rally in WRC. The WRC-2 cars are definitely my favorite to drive. They handle really nicely. The JWRC cars have too much wheelspin due to being FWD, and the WRC cars feel like a bull in a china shop in this game's tight stages. The stages in general in this game are a lot tighter than in the previous Milestones WRC games.

The tail-happiness I mentioned before can be tuned out with settings, so that became a non-issue.

I'm disappointed that the cockpit view is pretty much unusable though. First you can't remove the wheel and hands. It's not that big of an issue, since you can set the cockpit view FOV close enough such that you can't see the wheel, but you can still see the hands pop into view when turning. But the thing that makes it unusable is that the visibility is terrible. Once you get some dirt on the windshield, it's game over. You can't see ****. Especially in low light or adverse weather conditions. They should have included a manual wiper function. I still have unused buttons left over anyway.

But other than the crappy pace notes, rubber band AI times, and unusable cockpit view, I think the game is pretty good. I think the cars handle better than the previous Milestones games. But the Milestones games had much better pace notes. So overall, I would rate them about the same.

Managed to complete the WRC-2 season - odd how we aren't allowed to tune the J-WRC cars but can do so for the WRC-2 and WRC.

Anyway, here are a few more dusty shots (using the rewind function to kick up dust in both directions)

necro on my first post. lol

it is difficult to get information about the ps3 version, every search brings up pc/ps4 threads

ok so ps3 wrc 5, does it now support wheels??

ps3 wrc 5 or wrc 4? in terms of simulation physics, graphics, sounds and wheel support?

right now wrc 5 is £10.99 on PSN sale, so same price as wrc 4.

please do not give comments about getting a pc or ps4 or x1, the ps3 is my final console.............

If you're staying with the PS3 then WRC4 would be the one you need. I don't think WRC5 came out for the PS3 and WRC4s physics are more forgiving. No idea about wheel support unfortunately - maybe someone else can answer that.

Okay, cheers - I appreciate the info. It's a different developer but the same 'publisher' so maybe they are branching out more - I don't truthfully know. WRC4 though is perhaps a bit more arcade; WRC5 however is a game that is rewarding too.

i watched the ps3 wrc 3 review on youtube by isrtv and they said that wrc 3 was more sim than arcade. so wr c 4 has gone backwards? more arcade?

i wantt to purchase one of the 2, but im not sure about wrc 5 wheel support, and would like more info from ps3 players who have tried both

@anzhar WRC4 is more sim than WRC3 so it has been a progression. WRC4 uses the same approach as WRC3 (quite an improvement over the first two) but they still found room to improve it a bit more handling-wise.

EDIT: I still remember the first Norway event and the wheel-spin then grip as I launched.

i just bought wrc 4 on psn £10.99, looks way better than youtube vids

i decided against wrc 5 (also £10.99, on sale right now) because ps3 players say the game has many bugs and crashes often, and theres many negative cmments on the ps3 youtube vids, majority say that wrc 4 is better for ps3

YouTube vids are always a bad way to see how a game looks - far too much compression. Some HD vids are okay, but it still isn't a patch on the real thing.

I hope you enjoy, I did.

enjoying so far, during my limited playtime (adult life :() i will be alternating between gt6/f1 2013/wrc4 and my fighting games

btw it still has players online!!

Damn, that's encouraging - normally it's a ghost-town after a new title comes out.

Don't tackle any of the Mexico stages online until you've learned them - it's intense ;)

the force feedback is very strong, i like it, and the engine sounds are good, graphics are nice,

and you can use the H shifter as handbrake (as long as you use paddle shift for gear change other wise your missing a gear, i use 4th gear, simple down and then up for engage & release)

you know youve got a good game, when you keep going for 1 last lap

Has it really been so long? Went back on yesterday to tidy up the last bits (and to check if online was still active) only to discover that I hadn't actually completed the game. Maaan, I went through Sweden and Mexico rallies today on WRC and there are some damn intense stages. I think I'll need some more practice before venturing online. Such a shame that photo mode is just screen captures as there would be some great atmosphere to show for it.

EDIT: forgot to mention how much I like the fact of different surfaces in the same stage - adds something special.
