I saw this unfortunate spectacle myself as I live local to that airport and departed to Italy on the day this incident occurred, I thought it was a kit-car at first and didn't believe what they said in the papers as they often try to be misleading for effect, today I learned it was real and now I'm a sad Sloth.
I hope that guy was just bringing that thing to the airport to pick somebody up or drop somebody off. He would be crazy to leave it in the car park if he went abroad as its very cramped and we've experienced people hitting their door into our car whilst we've been away, then again Manchester is a cesspit.

Hiring expensive cars to attend weddings is a current fad in the UK, especially amongst the Asian community.
This happened when the guy who hired the 458 lent it to a friend, who managed to spin the car whilst exiting a roundabout, and crashed in to someone's house, collecting a Passat on the way.
Along with the hire fee, the hirer will lose his c.£5k deposit, and there's also the matter of whether the driver at the time was insured or not... could get very messy for all involved.
