Any of you know a great money maker for the quick fix?
Just don't say DTM.

The El Capitan Enduro :) Doesn't take much of a car to win it, you get 200,000Cr prize money and Minolta Toyota, which is worth a little over 700,000Cr. I believe, and it takes about 2 hours to complete. Unlike the DTM series, you don't have to babysit :) Leave it on overnight, at work, while a race is on TV, whatever ... come back to another million :D Or, sit there and babysit your way to another million in 40 minutes!

Fuji 1000km is good, i think its about 1.5million with prize money and prize car. Takes longer but you do it overnight :)

Well guys...

I just woke up and over night I set the game to do the 9h enduro at tsukuba (sp?).

It worked out alright... Gave me that R32 skyline race car. 👍

Probably just gonna sell it but at the moment I don't have enough money to buy anything I need so there isn't much point to selling it just yet. :(

For that matter, at the moment I am actually cleaning up the remaining missions from mission hall.

On mission 18 right now (nissan proto @ sarthe).

They have all been deceptive.
At first they feel like I will never beat them, but after about 2 attempts it feels more like the missions are easy and a waste of disc space. :irked:

On the note of Sarthe...
Thanks hotboi for the lap, and thanks daan for the mpeg of that lap.
Think it's from week 8 with the license test in the bentley.

After taking about 30 minutes to download the 11.5mb video I got some good hints about how to really take advantage of the track without spinning.

Feels wrong to do it like that, but it sure makes for some great lap times. :mischievous:

Oh and one last thing.
Do you all feel like getting back on the tarmac?
This week's rally has been fun and everything, but I'm looking forward to some road racing.

Now to compliment that question I ask that you all go to the suggestions thread. 👍

Yes, just look at my splits currently for this week....:yuck:
...I will have to agree with you!

Check this link out Kent, it may be able to help you see what kind of times you need to pass 👍.

Trying to get through all the DM's right now. Tried doing the rally this week, but I can't stay off the freaking walls, so no time for me. Managed to at least finish all my License's to at least be able to use them, will go back on rainy dyas to better my times as I can.

As a side note with not able to submit this week (Unless kenny finishes taking out the invis walls in the rest of the track). I will try to run Week #10 before my Friday, and will try to run Week #11 on my Monday the 20th. But I am heading back home for 12 days to enjoy a vactaion back in the States from here in Japan for first time in a year. So during that time, I will be not racing GT.

GL to all in the coming weeks to come, and I hope to be back for Week #12 racing in full stride.

Hey :D

Thanks Iceman.
Too bad I beat it way before I saw your post.

In fact, today was a great day for my driving missions.
I managed to beat a total of about 10 or 12.
Right now the only one left is #34. :D

With those out of the way I am going to head on towards the one make races.
Should be at 100% before summer's end. 👍

Along the way I've found some interesting things in this game.
One of those in particular is the S2000 LM.
I was amazed by this car.

It's way, way better than it was in gt3.
In gt3 it was just an over-powered S2000 that took a back seat to far too many other FR race cars.

However, this time around it's in a new position.
Stats on the full quick tune come out to 379 hp & 945kg.
(for refference: Toyota MRS autobacs = 359hp & 1012kg)

The handling is on par with, or better than any of the JGTC 300 cars (including the ASL ARTA & the MRS Autobacs).

Combine that with the full tune stats and you have a jgtc300 winner for any race. 👍

If any of you have taken the time to try this 450,000cr racer let me know what you think.
Agree... Disagree... Whatever, it's all welcome. :sly:

I've just got to post this and share it with my fellow WRSers ... my boyfriend - Brad- has been somewhat sympathetic to my driving plight; essentially I've had to sit on the floor, squatted in front of a coffee table with my legs all askew, in order to use my DFP.

One day he took some measurements and last night he delivered this ... it - is - AWESOME!

Aside from being purple with sparkly bits, aside from the fact that his mom painted little flowers on it, the sheer engineering and design that went into it blows me away ... everything is fully adjustable .. height, weidth, steering wheel position and angle ... the whole nine yards.

And the whole lot collapses to be completely flat and lean up against a wall.

God I love this man.

Now, I can only hope that it makes me faster on the track!!!

GT_Fan2005
dam, that is really cool, have you tried it out yet?/

First thing last night! Sat down, loaded up a Cadillac Cien (never driven before) and threw it around a few tracks ... it's so damn sweet and extremely comfortable. Best part was adjusting everything to fit Brad's frame (he's just a FEW pounds heavier than me :P) ... I've never seen him enjoy GT4 so much (previously, squatting a 250 lb 6'3" guy on the floor next to a coffee table was not a fair request :dopey: ).

Also tried out Grand Canyon for half an hour or so and the whole thing is as stable as a rock ... god, it has transformed my driving experience. I'm all set now!

That's pretty cool Nat. Now if I can only get started on mine. Right now, I have a futon for a bucket seat, a desk with 3 drawers on one side as my dash. It's too tall for the low set futon. But it's working good as a temp.

Not wanting to start a "Cheaper Cockpit Alternatives Only...." thread again, but ahem:

I made this using a seat from a ford, a DFP, some scrap metal from the bin, and my boss, who makes Go karts and runs a course for a living.
www.elk-racing.co.uk

Find me in the banner, waving a flag hehe.

Its totally cool, and my second favourite seat, after my CIVIC's.

Nice one Koly, although obviously Brad didnt pick up on your Midnight Purple II skyline the other week as much as you hoped....

:grumpy: 👍

Very cool Koly, I'd prefer it without the flowers myself though.:) You should have your fella draw up the plans he used and post the design on GTP here in one of the cockpit threads, maybe someone else who doesn't have a lot of room would like to build one.👍

I for one would be VERY interested in seeing the design plans or how to's on how to build something like this ! I have little space in my living room and would like a fold-up type of thing like this ! It would be perfect ! 👍

I live in a 2 bedroom townhouse (not sure what you guys call it in the US of A), not a flat though (nobody on top of us), so space will always be an issue for me ... for 3 more years ...

I'm working on him for the designs ;)

I do believe, although I may be wrong, that the flowers are optional.

You can have buterflies, ladybirds or fairies, too :P

He'll learn. I'm moving in with him in a few weeks, so I'm sure he's going to witness plenty of MNP. It's just a shame I can'y paint the rest of my garage cars the same color. :P

Hopefully when they modeled all of the cars and tracks for GT4, they did it at a very high detail that would be suitable for PS3, and 'dumbed' them down for the PS2. If that's the case, then they would already have 700 cars modeled for GT5 on PS3, which would leave more time to work on the important stuff. Like in-car dash view, manual transmission with an actual clutch pedal, online support, and improved AI. Hey, a guy can dream, right?

You can dream about all these improvements but the BIGGEST limitation is not the console itself but the media on which the game is stored. The reason most video games do not used the full processor of some consoles is because they can only be run as fast as the console can read the CD or DVD on which it is written (or in the GameCube's case, the 1.2gig mini-disc thing) or the RAM in the console. I'm sure there could have been 1000 or so cars if they had gotten the licenses for each model, but they couldn't have fit them onto the disc.

But..ahh...the death of the multi-disc game may not have been a death at all; perhaps they'll use multiple discs like GT2 did? Or an entirely new media like the holographic data-disc I saw on the Discovery Channel once. Pretty sweet idea, and very practical it seems. Instead of storing bits on a 2-dimensional disc, it reflects data into three dimensions. Of course, you need the space for this reflection to take place. :-/ But it's a cool idea!

"That's my story and I'm sticking to it!" :D

Koly... cool setup! (I wonder if my wife would mind if I got myself a boyfriend to build me one too).... hehehe

This weeks WRS at Infineon has helped me complete all the missions and licenses held on the Infineon tracks. I golded the the S license and completed the mission runs without too much frustration. The S license was a bit tough, but once you make it through the first two left/right combos it's fairly easy to gold.

I stumbled onto this a week ago when I started working on the missions. I ran all the Suzuka missions in one short session. Made it a lot easier. Did the Seattle track missions the same way.

Just an idea that is sure to have been mentioned before, but is worth restating.

Later,

The PS3 is going to be using the new 'Blue Ray' disks!

These babies have a totally awesome capacity of 25 Gb in the single layer version AND
a mind-boggling 54 Gb in the dual layer disk!

So i don't think that storage is gonna be a problem!

Here are the official spec's off the scea -e3 2005 website
PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3) computer entertainment system combines state-of-the-art technologies featuring Cell, a processor jointly developed by IBM, Sony Group and Toshiba Corporation, graphics processor (RSX) co-developed by NVIDIA Corporation and SCEI, and XDR memory developed by Rambus Inc. It also adopts BD-ROM (Blu-ray Disc ROM) with maximum storage capacity of 54 GB (dual layer), enabling delivery of entertainment content in full high-definition (HD) quality, under a secure environment made possible through the most advanced copyright protection technology. To match the accelerating convergence of digital consumer electronics and computer technology, PS3 supports high quality display in resolution of 1080p(*) as standard, which is far superior to 720p/1080i

I think RWR was talking about the actual transfer rate of data from the data disc to the machine's memory. I'd imagine with blu-ray being able to hold so much more data, the trasnsfer rate would have to be increased accordingly.

Yes, that was part of it. But you also have to think of how much TIME it takes for a group making a video game to fill even the 2 or 3 gig discs today. Can you imagine how much more work they'd have to put in to a next-gen game with memory like that--over ten to twenty times the memory on the disc?

Currently the X-box 360 is slated to use currently existing DVDs like the PS2 and original X-box (though some PS2 games are CDs, such as Half-Life and Tekken Tag Tournament). Hopefully the "Blu-Ray disc" will cut back on those after-thought games, you know like the ones following movie releases since they will likely be somewhat new and different to develop games on. I never really had any complaints with the number of good games exclusive to the PS2, which is, quite honestly, it's main selling point in my opinion. I mean, Metal Gear Solid 3, Tekken, Final Fantasy (sorta, XI was on the PC too and still has a strong fanbase), Half-Life 1 back in the day, GT4...etc. Granted it doesn't have Halo or...well...Halo, it still has some of the better games. And the best controller to date! ;) Everything is well in reach with maybe the exception of the circle button which I have to roll my thumb to press when I'm playing games like GT4.

I remember reading an article way back about GT3. It said it took a team 2 weeks to model one car in GT3 and it had taken one day to model two or three cars back in GT2. If I recall correctly they only had four modelling teams for the cars on GT3. I'm sure if you took the number of cars in GT3 and did the math, you'd have a long time modeling vehicles alone, nevermind the menus and race tracks and the programming and the save encryption....It takes a long time to make games! I just hope it won't take TOO long with this new technology.

I wish I had some screenshots and movies to see of the PS3. So far, I've only seen two screenshots on the X-box 360 that really impressed me. And none of them were related to Halo in anyway. Okay, so the guy had a gun and the bullet holes looked cool.... But it wasn't Halo, I swear! lol

To stay somewhat on topic, who here thinks that GT5 will be truly photorealistic? If you ask me, I'll say it'll be close but not quite photorealistic. The only thing I think keeping GT4's reflections unrealistic is the way only part of the environment is reflected. Look at a real car and you'll see everything reflected (assuming it's fairly clean).

Ok, got some more info

This is a tranfer-rate comparison chart from the Blu-ray.com site

What's the difference between Blu-ray and DVD?

Parameters
BD BD DVD DVD
Storage capacity 25GB 50GB 4.7GB 9.4GB
Number of layers single-layer dual-layer single-layer dual-layer
Laser wavelength 405nm 405nm 650nm 650nm
Numerical aperture 0.85 0.85 0.60 0.60
Protection layer 0.1mm 0.1mm 0.6mm 0.6mm
Data transfer rate 54.0Mbps 54.0Mbps 11.1Mbps 11.1Mbps

Roughly 5X capacity with 5X the transfer-rate of a DVD,
Know it's a little jumbled, but spacing thing out into tables isn't my thing!

Neil

How do you think this compares to a hardrive? I always thought that was one of the strong points of the XBox and I see that it's still not a feature of the PS3 (?) so I'm wondering how much of an achillies heel this will be.

3000!

I wanted this post to be in the WRS because it is an online home to me. :D

I just finished the final mission, #34. 👍

It wasn't that bad actually.
Only the wait at the beginning kept me from actually enjoying it.

Other than that wait it was a great race.
I didn't like the fact that I had to resort to dirty racing just to get it over with.

However, once I figured out some strategies to get in first there was no competition.

Ok, maybe I am stretching the truth on that.
It was pretty hard but nothing I couldn't handle. :D

Anyway,
I just wanted to come in and make my 3000th here in the WRS.

Three cheers for the WRS and the GTP.

I'm so close to beating that mission, it's the only thing left in the game for me. I'm trying to do it w/o 'cheating' so otherwise I'd have already beat it lol 👍
