I've never even heard of a Cisco CCNA quailification, so I doubt my course includes it...though i'm really not sure.

I'm at Deakin University in Burwood, doing Information Technology (Multimedia Technology).

I've done both VET IT: II & III, does your course include the Cisco CCNA qualification? I managed to finish it, but by the end I found it to be the most boring thing ever. At the start of the year I thought I was going to do Networking or IT Security as my Major, but by the end I realized I never wanted to do that again.
So what does your course involve?

Is playing games actually a part of it - like game development or something? Or are you just passing time by playing games?

One of my subjects this semester is 'Game Fundermentals" which involves pretty much playing games all the time.

Our assignment is
Code:
SIT151 Assignment #1 Computer Game Analysis & Critique The goal of this assignment is for
the student to study in detail a computer game and analyse it in regards to the components
that contribute to good game design. It is left up to the student which game they wish to
 analyse.

I also do another subject called 'Principles of Interactive Media', which involves a lot of games too. In addition to these I'm doing IT 101 (What a motherboard is), and Software development (Which I hate).

At the end of this year I can actually change my degree to 'Games Development and Design', which would be fun and interesting I imagine, but I'm unsure of the job prospects in Australia.

What's the difference between Software Development and Games Development & Design?

What's the difference between Software Development and Games Development & Design?

Software Development involves heavily things like Programming languages, Databases, and also the computer science based stuff.

(Computer Science and Software Development Outline)
This course provides an understanding of the technology on which systems are built as well as how to develop software systems and applications, and form an environment to acquire skills needed for software development. The Computer Science and Software Development course supports students who wish to master software development. It prepares students for both research and development by providing them with a background of software understanding, software design, programming languages, data structures and databases, operating systems, networks, distributed systems and software engineering. The course is structured so that although computer languages and technology change rapidly, the intellectual material will remain current for a number of years. On completion of the BIT (Computer Science and Software Development) degree, the graduate will be able to work in a wide range of jobs including: object-oriented and procedural programmer; database and web designer and manager; network manager; component integrator; project manager; consultant; system analyst.
Whereas the Game Development and Design degree is more Arts based I guess. Incorporating more audio/visual kinds of things. (Also we get to use our very slick Motion Capture lab)

(Games Development and Design Outline)
This course focuses on enhancing students' hands-on ability to build computer games through the development of an understanding and appreciation of concepts in software technology relevant to games including graphic engines, input devices, system analysis and design, object-oriented programming, game programming, networks, and simulation engines; scientific concepts from computer science and related fields including game simulation and modelling, graphics, artificial intelligence, real-time rendering, audio/visual systems, and game theory; art and design principles for games including software engineering, human computer interaction, game production, graphic design, music and sound effects, and games and society.
Graduates of the course can expect to work in a wide range of IT jobs including game designer; game developer or game programmer; project manager; component integrator; multimedia system designer and developer; or consultant.

So you're more into computer art than computer code?

Because that would be the complete opposite of me...

GTP seems pretty dead lately... Nobody talking about JGTC, nobody talking about the Weekly Drag Series, nobody talking in the WRS...

Yeah, I noticed Brad and Greg stopped reporting trips, Colby stopped crashing, and the rest of us just died away?

*thread sinks back into oblivion*

I don't even just mean this thread...?

Anyone want to buy volvo parts or an old volvo? I'm selling my '68 142 and the '72 145 I just picked up... :sly:

My fiance would kill me. I already have 3 Jeeps. Only 1 is running and registered. My friends keep finding cheap/free Jeeps and passing the info to me. And she keeps saying NO! I need a hobby that doesn't take up a garage and 2 parking spaces.

Here's a story.

Since my V8 Turbo is slowly wasting away into oblivion, I've been driving the spare car around a bit, we're trying to sell it, so if I crash it (More then likely, because it's me) you probably won't be seeing me on WRS for a while after my mums gets me. It's a big change from the V8 turbo.

It's over 3 feet longer then the V8 Turbo and has 2.75 times the power (220hp). And the 4L 6 just chews through petrol about 2.75 times faster too.

The following things are wrong with the car

  • It has an LPG tank, but it can't actually run on LPG, so it's pretty much got a big cylinder in the boot the takes 75% of space with no functionality. It's a big selling point
  • It has steering wheel controls for cruise and audio, yet, the buttons are gone, so you have to press on the circuit board and hope. Oh, and the audio ones don't work because it's got an after market 20$ cd player.
  • The Air conditioning works, but the display doesn't, this display also does that little 'beep if you're over a speed' thing. I was playing around with it one day and got it stuck on beep at over 50km/h, and had to drive 20 minutes with this thing beeping at me every second.

Oh. And it's almost 2pm and I just got out of bed.

Jeeeeeez Brad... Get a life! :P

Lol, one of the reasons I'm not married or almost married yet! Ok, maybe not, but I don't have to deal with that yet, regardless. :sly: But yeah, I totally hear ya man! Two of mine are registered, all three are running. One needs an Oregon title and some work done to it before it's driveable(although it can be driven, barely...). Got a couple calls today, so if I'm lucky, at least one of them will be gone soon... My fingers are crossed!

Bah, someone I know is storing three volvos.. one at my friends place, on at my friends parents, and then one at his own place...

I finally sold one of the MR2s I had... the not running red one, to a guy that has an Mk1 with a 3S-GTE going in it, an FC RX-7 project, a Geo Metro we plan to total one day...

I've only got two cars now.. but we are all thinking of going in on a rally beater of some sort.

Gotta love how this hobby slowly amasses dead cars... geez.

:) I guess one of the guys basically lives in my neighborhood! Let us PLEASE hope he takes the car!!!! For a decent chunk of cash too!!! SUPER PLEASE!

I'm out of Volvos at the moment, since someone is selling an original Austin Mini, with little rust and three punctured tyres, for 300NIS - which equals around 80$s. Currently trying to convince my family it'll be a nice project to work on before I get my licence. Wonder if I can use the argument of "I'll be more careful with my own car"?

Sure, a working Austin... But time's a little tight, and I'm not sure where to store it - we have no garage in our flat or something :P

You know, a Mini just doesn't take up that much room.
A long, long time ago my father and I shared a '67 Austin Healey 3000 and a '65 Austin Cooper S and we parked both cars nose to tail in one bay of our garage

So I was just questioned by the cops because they thought I may of been a crack dealer with a stolen car

You just can't hang around parks at 1am on a Monday anymore...What has the world come to.

They almost gotcha, Brad. Greg should go undercover for a while

2078TM, I know they don't take much space - but we don't even have that. It's a regular flat, with no garage or something attached. The only other place would be my room - and I'd do that if I had a big door into it.

Well I've got an off-topic post...

I've been riding my bike a fair bit over the past few months and my girlfriend was concerned with how many roads I cross during my circuit. So yesterday I went on a reconnaissance mission to find a new circuit with little to no road crossing. I got about 15km into a new circuit and decided to head home.

I jumped back on my usual route in the opposite direction to what I am used to, came to a road I had to cross and thought it was clear. I started negotiating the road when I spotted a car and so I slammed my brakes on and went over the handle bars. Using my hands to brace the fall was not the best idea since the landing on my left hand rammed my shoulder out of place.

Anyway, 5 hours later I was discharged from the hospital with my shoulder put back in place and a sling to wear for a while. Let me tell you...sitting in the hospital with my shoulder dislocated for a couple of hours was truly excruciating, thank God they put me under general anesthetic to put it back in is all I can say! :)

Ahh! Damnit! Sorry to hear that Colby old man... :P Ouch though! eek.

Next time put your weight further back... ;) assuming you have time enough to do so. Are the cars travelling pretty quick where you are crossing then? :nervous:

Well, that is what you get for listening to a woman

Seriously though I hope you're allright and everything heals o.k. I know how much that injury hurts :guilty:

Well another car stopped at the intersection obscured my view of traffic in the other lane. I know it was my own stupid fault but the irony of it happening when I had good intentions still sucks :) Almost as much as me taking my car to a racetrack to release some aggression and having to pay for the smash repairs when if it had happened on public roads my insurance would have covered the repairs...go figure :indiff:

Well, that is what you get for listening to a woman

I just thought I was listening to a woman...

Come on Colb, remember in Lethal Weapon 2 when Mel Gibson had to dislocate his own shoulders to save his life when he got thrown off a pier in a straight-jacket?! What about those guys who have to saw off their own arms when they're stuck under rocks and have Grizzly Bears homing in. You fell off your bike!

Haha, seriously, hope you get well soon.👍 I know old bones like yours will take a while to heal. :sly:

[pops in to make bad joke]
Don't mind Colby, Casio. He's 'armless.
[/pops in to make bad joke]

Get well soon, Colby.
