Amazing top speed, the design of a le mans car in the front and an F1 formula that looks from the back, will be amazing to drive.
While this car is beautiful, I think it is purely a piece of eye candy. Listening to the audio they clearly just used a modified version of a F1 engine. Rather than recording an actual gas turbine engine, they have just modified a F1 recording to a higher pitch. This leads me to believe that this is simply a visual model where they have adjusted the sliders to their optimum settings and made up some sounds.
Who says it's got a gas turbine anymore? As far as I know, it was announced as a gas turbine, but is actually a Turbo V6. It was also announced to have CVT, doesn't sound like it to me either.

I'm not sure I understand, if you're meaning that the shape of the body is like a wing then since it's flat on the underside and curved on top and the faster air runs over the top surface then it'd produce lift rather than downforce. My theories on the X-1Red Bull Prototype.
As weve all seen the X-1 is a mind blowing and fast car. Weve seen the videos, the latest pictures and wonder HOW. With my studies in Aero Space and Engineering Im hoping to shad some light on the matter. First of all the top of the X-1 is one big wing or a number of wings. If you look closely at the shape of the X-1 and its upper portion youll notice that its a formed shape wing(s) beside a normal shaped wing. Remove the shock arms, A-arms and control arms from the car youll see what Im speaking of. This is just one of the key areas of its down force. Now put back all the front control areas and look at the front of the car youll notice the area of flow. Now at speed this area will make an invisible ducking area pushing the air faster over the body lines giving it great down force. At mid-ship of the car youll see two ducks opening, one just under the cockpit and the other just in front of the rear wheels. That opening leads to the second diffuser on the rear of the car. Youll see the second diffuser if you look at the rear of the car; its above the third. At speed the air flow from the second diffuser will pull the air up and out faster from the third diffuser which will increase the down force greatly.
Now on the heart of this matter the power planet and the Main diffuser fan.
I believe that the power planet (which I believe is a Turbine Engine of some type), V transmission and the rear fan are linked through a thrust gear box. A thrust gear box works just like a regular engine (taking the power of the thrust from the turbine). Transferring power to the needed areas; and blowing off the extra power through a waste gate which should be the rear fan in this case; take a look at the under side of the car. You can see to large openings lined with a blue skirt leading to two small openings. (Looks like an intake housing for jets) This is the main diffuser and the air supply for the main diffuser. If you havent guessed the main diffuser is the rear fan. With the power of the turbine pulling the air from under and out; that air flow will be under and in between the air flowing over and around the car producing a massive lower pressure which in turn will increase the air flow. Its also above the airflow coming from the second diffuser which will increase that air flow and the air flow from the third diffuser which get its flow just in front the cockpit. With all of these lower pressure areas air will allow the main diffuser to pull in; push out more air which in turn would allow the air coming over and around the car to move a lot faster producing a great amount of down force. How much, I wouldnt know with having the acre degree of the wings and body. I have already tried to put the pictures from the form and news of the X-1 into my CAD and I couldnt get I good model. Once I get the info Ill be able to give a better detailed report on my findings.
A thrust gear box works just like a regular engine (taking the power of the thrust from the turbine).
With the Côte d'Azur appearing so much wider than the Monaco Formula 1 track due to them not being able to include all relevant official partitioning on the track I saw this as soon as the new X1 Prototype shot was posted!

Wow, this looks like a complete, royal, waste of time and effort. Make up a bunch of figures and say its the fastest race car in the world. Right. The fact that they spent money and time making it as 'real' as possible is even more ridiculous. How many more features could the game have had if this effort had been put into something useful?

The Virgin F1 was designed completely with CFD, ok it can't beat another F1 car but it will beat most other things so while not perfect it can work to some extent. Also in F1 wind tunnels they use scale models and who's to say that whatever engine and transmission is used doesn't exist or have reasonably accurate predicted real world performance and characteristics?

But it doesn't really fit the "real driving simulator" tag either, as it's not real. You have no idea what you are talking about. The car was made based on real world physics and real racing know how so they aren't "made up" as you ignorantly state. And exactly how was Money and time spent in making this instead of other features? Where do you get this daft assumption that they seemingly dropped evertyhing when they were making this?

Exactly. It doesn't necessarily have to be real to fit the tag as if you think about it, this simulates what the ultimate race car might be, at least in Red Bull's hands.

On another note, did anyone notice that the car has shift points when accelerating. Coupled with the modified F1 engine sound, again leads me to believe that PD poorly executed this project.
.....
Just to clear something up for everyone. The gas turbine engine that would be used in this car would not generate any thrust. A turboshaft engine would be utilized for this application, which generates negligible thrust. In a turboshaft engine, all of the generated power is transported via shaft to the gearbox. The exhaust exiting the engine will have a negligible velocity and thus negligible thrust. They can still use the exhaust for improving diffuser performance, like they do on current F1 cars.
On another note, did anyone notice that the car has shift points when accelerating. Coupled with the modified F1 engine sound, again leads me to believe that PD poorly executed this project. I was expecting a little more from them, but seeing that GT5 has been pressed for time, I am not surprised.

Do you think this car will be a reality when GT hits?
If you were following closely you probably noticed that the footage shot with the camera and the direct-feed footage had different sounds. I think they just dubbed the direct-feed footage, for whatever reason.
Because they don't read the entire thread before posting. Why do people keep making comments about the car having a turbine engine and a CVT, it has been known for some time now that it is a TT V6 and a standard manual transmission.
