X1 Prototype- WOW!

Centura and other people with the same mentality of refusal ...
... and thinking you are the GT purist ....

and that's where you are completely wrong! :)

The idea behind the X1 is analogous to this situation:

Say Kaz ask your favorite car manufacturer (insert brand here)
to build their project/concept car that they think is more probably to realize in the short future 5 to 10 years, what would that car look like.

Personnally if BMW "were given" that opportunity by Kaz and accepted,
i would love to drive their engineering ideas ahead of time,
try it in exclusivity on the PS3 before it would be made available in the showroom floor.

And this is exactly the same situation with the X1. You get to try out the reality of the near future today!

This is not to be confused with the Nike car from previous GT games.

This is more researched than that... not just pure fiction.

Please dont call yourself, dont think of yourself as a GT purist if you dont get what the X1 is supposed to be.

EDIT:

And you are going to pay for that right?
Did you care about the Citroen GT?

If it weren't for the Suzuka time I would still have cared about it. I'm sure the car can drive around that fast, but not with a human controlling it.

Observant one you are! Figure this one out all by yourself?

You should try reading "between the words."

I remember an article in Popular Mechanics a few years back in which they imagined a racing series that was truly unlimited. Unlimited budget, unlimited rules. They said race cars could be built with enough downforce, partly due to vacuum force like the X1, that the cars could be driven upside down on a specialized course. It was a hypothetical article, but it is fun to imagine what might be possible. And we get a taste of it in a video game? Sweeeet!

Oh! so you were worried that the pilot might not be able to handle those G-forces and those times are not realistic enough for a human to go through.?!

That's a fair enough concern i would say... In that case, i dont know, i am not from that field to be able to confirm or affirm anything.

Fair enough...

EDIT: but as a sweedish, you should know... SAAB being an military combat aircraft manufacturer, humans have been piloting those machines, that creates much more g-forces...
they have survived thus far... i dont think the X1 is anywhere close to the harsh condition an airplane creates...
Of course it will be much tougher training than with a Formula One, but it will certainly not reach that level of Airplane pilots ;)

Now that's the right attitude. ;) 👍

Didn't they say the same thing about Gumpert Apollo Sport?

As long as someone was brave enough to get inside the thing then i'm not sure why it wouldn't be possible to drive with a human inside it. PD didn't bring Adrian Newey in just to say "Hey guys, look we've got someone with credibility lending his name to the project". They brought him in because their goal was to create a car that would be possible in the real world and they needed his guidance on designing it. That's why it doesn't do crazy speeds like 300+mph. It's slower than a Veyron (in term so of top speed) as many people have mentioned.

Humans fly fighter jets that receive more G forces than an F1 car will see. It's not about how fast around turns you can go, its how fast out of those turns you can go, and how much grip there is. You think F1 cars are fast now? They would be much faster if they were slicks run in the V10 days of 2004. If engine rules weren't placed they could get over 1000hp. They did it for longevity of the race. You think F1 wouldn't be as fast as this X1? They aren't because of the limited rules they are faced with. Sure they're faster around the track than anything, but they're still limited. F1 unlimited could easily be 15-20seconds faster per lap. It's not unfeasible.

Correct, but I would love to be proved wrong.

Correct me if I am wrong, but F1 can reach about 5G, right? And airplanes can reach about 7G or is it even higher?

I don't have an issue with the car. It's a very cool car and project. It's just the time I have an issue with. I'm not sure why they even mentioned it.

Who knows if PD's physics are right when it comes to this car and he didn't even have to deal with the massive G-forces.

Every time I come to this site I take another look at the X1 pictures. It's becoming routine. I think I'm going to do that everyday.

That car looks awesome!

dude at the end of the game it's a video game, get over your self.

It was either in Car and Driver or Road & Track and they had gone back to guys, most if not all, that were team owners or drivers in the Can-Am Series. They asked each of them to create a car with no budget limit and no class rules. a lot of the cars had similar designs to the X1, some more outrageous. One design had 8 wheels and others had gas turbines. Jim Hall I believe used his "sucker" idea for the Chaparral design.

actually just found the article

I like the points being raised here. The X1 is a great concept study into possibility and what if's. This is part of the fun, but there are so many factors outside of the game environment that would be much more interesting when answered under real world circumstances. No duh, right? Honestly though, that is a huge discrepancy. Has Adrian made any comments regarding the 20 second improvement?

I think it's ugly and that it might be highly overused both on and offline. It's only competition could be the Escudo PP or a perfectly tuned street/race car.

Anyway, no rant. Just my thoughts.

Thank u for them but I disagree with all if your thoughts :) It is unique looking but I like it. There is NOTHING that can touch a car that beats the F1 lap record at Suzi by 20 seconds no matter how tuned. Because of this I bet we will be very limiter on when we can use it, especially offline. I have a feeling it will be more of a novalty item to own than a car u will actually log mile after mile on in career races.

Good find. Lots of fun cars. The article I remember was along very similar lines, but did talk more about how hard it would be on the driver. Also the article I think I am recalling had ideas about how the tracks would be changed. Full cork screws and upside down racing.

My guess is either the reward in an F1 championship, 100%, or a reward associated with the special events.

Now what's the fun in that :yuck:

It will still be fun... and you know why??

because it's GT5! 👍 I am not worried, we are in good hands with KAZ.

Guys, its just a video of a Nissan GTR that has been speeded up using video editing to make it roughly the same time as vettels, if you look at the speed he rarely goes above 100mph, formula 1 cars will take corners at 150mph that the car in the video is doing at 70mph

This X1 car is cool and all, but all these claims are just silly, its a car in a computer game, if they made this in real life theres no actual guarentee that it would be that great, and i very much doubt it would be putting in times of 20seconds faster than an F1 car.

I fail to see how people can be so impressed by what is merely an idea on a piece of paper. If you watch F1 you see how often their designs, wind tunnels and simulators get it wrong, almost everytime the real life testing reveals huge flaws. until it is a reality the car is nothing but a comic book fiction.

I think the issue will be on the shelves at the end of the week. There's a few more shots of the X1 in there that Jordan hasn't posted, check it out!

👍 thanks mate and thanks for giving Jordan the heads up.

The technology is there, the FIA has strict rules.

Twice the horsepower, 100kg less, CVT gearbox, no limits on downforce. I reckon 20 seconds faster is doable with the right driver..
