Xbox Dashboard Update

So I wait all day yesterday - nothing.

Today when I turn the 360 on, I'm prompted for the update. Okay, finally. Right after it restarts and is about to finish the installation, it can't finish because of a connection error.

Now I can't connect to Live. If this is what I was waiting for I could have very well have smashed the adapter up against my wall and got the same experience, hassle free.

Lots of people seem to be having problems with this update. Thats why I was not excited about it and sure as heck was not looking forward to it.
I still have not even installed it yet. Not looking forward to this tonight at all.

It's awful, one of the worst updates I've seen in the history of gaming. It's got video ads all over, they switched the eject and game details buttons for NO reason, you have to scroll all the way to the end of the categories to get to profile, system settings etc. Look up pics and videos of it, absolute trash.

Yikes! :scared:

I'll share my experience when I get home today.

Bit of an over-exaggeration, don't you think?

you have to scroll all the way to the end of the categories to get to profile, system settings etc.

Or you can just hit the Guide button.

Anyone with an IPhone should download the free My Xbox live App.
Excellent. Message friends, compare acheivements(if your into that) dress up your avatar etc.

Really good.

Probably

Or you can just hit the Guide button.

Yes, I guess that's true.

But this update is nonsensical in many aspects. They did all these little changes and add-ons that are foolish. Switching the buttons I mentioned is one such example of a useless change that is detrimental to the ease of use.

EDIT: off topic of the dashboard, but I just have to say I absolutely HATE the Microsoft points system. What's the point? Just use real monetary figures like a normal company. Buying stuff on PS3 is so much easier than on Xbox. On there I can just add funds to my PSN wallet in seconds, but on Xbox I have to buy these pointless points (get it?).

I really like the new update. The design is modern, clean and functional, just as it should be. I like how they've tied it in with the Windows OS for phones too. The improvement of Kinect voice commands is also a welcome addition for me. 👍

Detrimental? They swapped two (2) buttons. Two buttons that are in the same places they were in before, they just serve the opposite function now.

The points are pecuniary. :odd:

And it's no different than adding funds to your PSN wallet. You run out, you add more, you spend them. Rinse and repeat.

Easier to ask the mrs for points instead of cash lol.

Me 500 points. Mrs. Ok.
Me £10. Mrs. HOW MUCH?

Well, I have to agree how annoying that is. Seriously, why would they do that other than trolling us? I can think of no reason to switch two buttons that have been serving the same purpose for years. Maybe it's my OCD acting up, but I'm so 🤬 annoyed by that alone.

I think the new dash looks and functions much better than before !

Ha at least I can navigate the marketplace though and find things I search for, the PSN Store is a joke !

One thing is for sure as hell though I will never trust my card details on my PS3.

I finally downloaded the new dashboard last night and overall I like it a lot. It kinda has a PS3 feel to it but better. I also like the beacons, thats a killer idea.

The one thing I do not like at all is the new message that pops up when people put in their game. First I get a message saying they are online, then I get a message shortly later saying they "started playing a certain game". Honestly I really do not need to have 2 messages pop up per person. And thats not even including the beacon messages. So all together that could be 3 total messages per person!! I guarantee people are going to have more freezing issues with xboxlive than they have ever had. I cant beta testers did not realize how many freezing problems this will cause.

It only pops up when they are playing the same game as you which i find extremely handy !

That is not true. I was in skyrim and it was telling me "this person is playing Saints Row 3" This person is playing "this game" this person is playing that game. Even the beacons show for multiple games.

I haven't really fooled around with the new dash yet, but yesterday night I only got this kind of pop-up for people who played the same game as I was. Maybe it'll pop-up for set beacons or something? I had 18 friends online yesterday and I only got 3 pop-ups from people who where playing FM4 also...

Trust me that is true unless you have set beacons for a game you arent playing then it will tell you they are playing it.

I have been using this dash for around 3 weeks now!

Again.....Not true.

Now THIS part is where you cleared up the truth. The notification messages pop up telling you 3 things per person.
1. They tell you when a friend gets on (always been like that)
2. If you are playing Skyrim for example then it will tell you EVERY time a friend starts playing Skyrim.
3. If you have a beacon set for a specific game example: Forza, then it will tell you every single friend that starts playing Forza
4. And finally, on top of all these other notifications it will also tell you when a friend has a beacon.

Thats up to 4 notifications PER PERSON. So the best way to avoid at least 2 of these messages per person is do NOT set beacons. Otherwise you could get up to 4 notifications PER PERSON. I counted well over 50 notifications last night just within 3 hours of gaming. :boggled:
So if you have had this for 3 weeks, you sure didnt do a good job testing the beta. j/k :P

Why would you set a beacon for a game that you dont actually want to play? This is the exact reason you get a pop up because your beacon is telling you that someone has started playing to alert you for what you have asked it to alert you for.

I know you said it was a joke but i wasnt testing the thing for pop ups besides that how could I test beacons when no one else on my friends list had the ability to use them?

I set 1 beacon for a game just to give people a heads up that wanted to play it. But had no idea it would send me 4 notifications per person.

I figured maybe people could just look at the list of beacons and see which person they wanted to play with. I only had 1 beacon and could not believe the amount of notifications. Just seriously insane. Over 50 notifications within 3 hours. wow So thats a feature I probaby will no longer use. Because as I said before, thats going to cause freezing issue for sure with many 360s.

So you didn't use it properly - i'm sorry but don't blame the system for your own mistakes or misunderstanding, i can understand it didnt come with instructions and as harsh as that sounds its the truth.

That still has nothing to do with the fact I cant turn off notifications for when a person is playing the same game as me. I dont mind knowing when a friend gets on, but I do not need to know every single friend that starts playing the same exact game as me. That I blame on the update. And from what I have seen, there is no way to turn that off.

But now you have changed your argument, at first you were saying there was a pop up for everybody and what they were playing.

I mean how many people play the same game as you on your friends list at any one time? Because thats the difference of how many extra pop ups you get.

I was on Battlefield 3 last night and it told me on three seperate occasions that someone started playing and we all joined a game together.

Its hardly ruining the experience.

Yes that part about messages popping up for every person I have corrected but keep in mind I have usually around 33-35 friends on at a time so those messages are indeed popping up ALL the time. But it was because they were in my same game or playing the beacon game. Like I said I had well over 50 notifications last night. The more friends you have the more this happens. If you only had 3 friends on playing the same game as you then you sure as heck have no idea what I was going through with 33 friends online and they were either playing the same game as me or playing the game I had the beacn set for. So thats easily to 60-70 notifications in one night not including the beacons. I quit counting after it hit 50.

So get 33-35 out of 98 total friends on your FL online at the same time then come back in here. Until then you are just trying to start an argument to start an argument.

All I want is to turn off the message that says the person is playing the same game as I am. I dont need to know that.

Actually I will probably just start deleting friends to minimize these notifications.

Excuse me?

I am not trying to start an argument, you came into this thread and blatantly called me a liar when infact I was telling you exactly how the system worked.

I came into this thread with lots of useful info on the update in which you would not accept as fact, now your going on about 33-35 friends online like its something to brag about - your lucky if I even have 33-35 friends on XBL because the only friends I have on it are people I know in real life or the odd one from GTP I kept to compare Forza stats with.

If anyones trying to start an argument here its you.

How about your earlier comment?
So if you have had this for 3 weeks, you sure didnt do a good job testing the beta. j/k :P
