I still find it odd that PD had that model lying around like the other hidden cars and never finished it. It's really a stupid move on their part imo. I would have loved to drive that 156 Touring Car.

I think Polyphony had the idea to add Racing Modifications option, like in GT2, but then the idea was scrapped and the only leftover we have is the [R] for the first car in the car-code list, the Alfa Romeo 156 24V

Here is the secret "Alfa-Romeo 156 Race Car", in the GT4 event screen "Real Circuit Tours"

alfa156_zpsf6rn1bi5.jpg

GT4's event screens contained quite a few non-present cars. There's a Seat Toledo S2000 in that Real Circuit Tours one too, as it's a photo from an ETCC race at what looks to be Estoril, where they raced in 2003. Also, has anyone noticed that "Infineon Raseway" typo on the right before? :D

I believe there were also event screens in GT4 that featured a Porsche 996 GT3-RS, and an elder Courage (C51?) as entered by Pescarolo. I seem to recall that both of those were in the Endurance section, but I could be wrong.

So as a whole, the event screens didn't really have much bearing on what was actually in the game a lot of the time!

Regarding the 156 I saw a pre-release car list of GT3 with it. I'll try and find it.

While looking for the car list mentioned, I found more beta screenshots, and beware, there are a lot!

Definitely a good find. I just searched the site with these pictures that features forty images. A few of them include the Lancia Stratos that never made it to the final version of the game.

Also, perhaps its the poor image resolution, but some vehicles display low quality. As if Polyphony Digital used a few vehicle models straight from GT2 and placed them in these GT3 previews without improving their textures.

Some of those screenshots also use the same position graphics as GT2, while some others use the ones from GT2000 and later GT3 demos. Could it be that GT2000 isn't the earliest existing build of GT3?

Does that mean then, that GT2000 is the last build of GT2?

A couple ancient pictures of GT3.

Some of the screenshots strongly look like there running GT2 engine. Like the lotus 350 for an example, makes me wonder this build may be from the full version of GT2000 but scrapper for GT3.

Also, it feels like GT2 with GT3 assets just like what GT2000 was. Good stuff :)

I've always had that hypothesis that GT2000 was basically a playable/real time version of what they used to render the GT2 opening movie :P

It is a plausible theory, but I'll give one piece of evidence that it might not be true: the GT1 intro also had very similar looking graphics.

They may have had a hue that made it that way. The PSX era was a bit weird with game intros, but GT1 & GT2 may have used something other than the GT2000 engine. The tech demo of GT2000 looks like a plausable guess, because of how the reflections and shadowing works, and they were super shiny, like the Rouge Test.

Well most likely those openings were made on PC which at the time were far more powerful than consoles. I at least think they used a few assets from the movies for GT2000. But I may be wrong, who knows. For sure, cars have been remade, but the style is there. Plus, why waste 3D assets? :P

Good Job!

I actually can see a floating yellow indicator aswell as the road more wide than the final version.. Still a lot more finished than the OPSM2 Demo counterpart.

Pretty different skybox (less cloudy and more bright).

The two Skycrapers @ 0:35 (from GT2) were removed in the final version IIRC...

The Lister Sponsor at the end of the first tunnel was changed to VW Sponsor.

The gold wheels from the GT2 version of the MotorSports Elise were changed to normal ones in the final version

Good job :) I was playing around with this demo too today ( and also prius demo, toyota 2004 demo), sadly with my low-end pc i can play at 20% speed :/
I cannot find the OPS2M Demo anywhere, the first build after Gt2000

What does the kanji says on the "texture" stuff?

Unknown Texture & or Missing Texture?

Yeah "textureが無いよ" is pronounced "texture ga na ee yo", and means "there's no texture". What I find funny is that it's written in an unformal way. The "よ (pronounced "yo")" at the end is often added at the end of sentences to deformalize or put a small emphasis on that sentence. It's mainly used in conversation. I guess Kazunori and his team didn't care lul

Also: ∑(゚Д゚) That first turn on the beta Grand Valley Speedway is so wide!

An early version of GT3 Super Speedway.

Also, i discovered 3 cars that were removed in the final version:

Dodge Viper GTS-R Team Oreca '99
Ford Mustang SVT Cobra '99
Vector M12

The Viper Oreca and the M12 use the default body of the Daihatsu Mira.
The Alfa 156 Touring Car still exist in this demo too (but only the body).
