Only the Italians could name a car "four door" and make it sound sexy!

There are supposedly REAL build quality issues with them. Remember, that's pre-Ferrari Maserati.

This one too.

I saw an early version of these recently. I didn't even know they sold Maseratis at one point in North America!

The F40, which pretty well went head to head with it, was a fairly crude Ferrari chassis with a burster of a motor in it - dramatic looking, I'll grant you (heck, I've got a 1:18 model of sitting in the house), but to me, just an engine in a sexy body.

So the 959 dominated group B back then? It mustve been a bit different than the street model, right? Because what I have gathered from reading, is that the 959 was a very advanced car for the time, but it had soft suspension, was heavy, and understeered too much. On the other hand I got the impression that the f40 was a true race car from the factory. gokart like steering in a lightweight mid engined car that made almost 500hp.

Im not bashing the 959, and I might be misunderstanding what you said, but to call the f40 just an engine in a sexy body? that would be my summation of the f50 yes, but not f40.

were you saying the 959 was a better car for racing? I didnt quite understand.

The 959 was built for Group B rally racing, but by the time it was finished Group B had been finished because of the many deaths it caused.

My dream car?!

I dont think that there is any true car guy out there that has 1 favourite car.

I would have to choose the Porsche 911 GT2 (996) because its very hard to beat at anything.

Runners up: Ferrari F40, Toyota Supra, Lotus Esprit etc etc etc

oh, it being built for rally makes much more sense to me. I was going to say on a track an f40 would rape it.

on my list i think i mentioned the e30 m3. It was homologated for group A touring. BMW cleaned up, and the m3 has been the most succesful touring car in history.

There's a client of mine that has a black Quattroporte rusting in his driveway (redundant: Maser, rust). Fortunately, he generally drives an S6 Avant as an everday car. Still, the Maserati looks much better in reality than it does in photos.

Yeah, the 959 understeered, just like every Audi quattro. But it's still the fastest production Porsche to date (the Carerra GT will finally beat it). And with the massively on/off turbo engine, it's as raw as the original 2.7RS...just in a whole different way. It's also a hell of a technological marvel; as much as the SKyline GT-R was in the mid-90's.

It's like the McLaren F1: built not for the road, but to a different set of specifications. It was slightly modified to be road legal, but for the most part, it was designed around Gruppe B requirements and specifications. That makes it special. It raced some in the Paris-Dakar (I don't know how it did), but the long development time caused it to miss out on the psychotic 80's Group B class.

I have a few. I'll just name the ones on the top of my list.

#1 1998 Porsche 911 GT-1 '98 Road Verison
#2 2001 Nissan Skyline R34 V-spec II GT-R
#3 2003 Ferrari Enzo
#4 1988 Porsche 959
#5 2003 Hummer H2

If any has a Picture of Shaq's Hummer H2, please PM it to me or post it here. Im looking for a picture of it.

Hummers...The car for either:

*Bling bling

Unless it has a mounted machine gun on the roof, then I have absolutely no problem with it. :D That E30 M3 is so nice...:)

Diablo SV. Metalic Peach with a blue pearl. Carbon fiber front and rear spoilers. Color-matched 6 spoke rims with a really big polished lip.

Right now my dream car is a Mazda RX-8. If I can't get it, a nice little Mazda Lantis would do just fine. If you look a little closer, you'll notice small similarities between their body styles. :)

That's part of the reason I love GT-Rs, as well. The R32 GT-R was designed with one purpose in mind - to dominate Japanese Group A touring car racing. It acheived this so effectively it killed the formula.

Oh yeah - I forgot one definite dream car...

jaguar_xjr15.jpg

The Jaguar XJR15 - the car the XJ220 should have been. How can a Jag supercar have anything except a V12 in it?

I saw one in action at the Albert Park Historic events they ran in the years leading up to the grand prix being held there. The best looking road car - just a gorgeous thing. Pretty damn fast, too.

whoa, what a flashback. I didnt even remembered this car, but it was real cool.
as for the charger daytona, this man knows what he wants.

I've been fortunate to own two of my dream cars. While my tastes are not as exotic as many.

The first I owned for 7 years. A 1972 Corvette Stingray. the only modified part was the side pipe exhaust system other than that it was factory orginal.

The other is my current car a 1992 Skyline GTR or R32 GTR :)

Actually the R32 is the "cheaper" of the three in purchase price. It is however the lightest, and quickest in standard form though the R34 will out handle it.

I do feel lucky though. The stupid Government here has put a stop to any pre95 model cars from coming in with some rediculess frontal impact standards rule. I won't go into it this thread though.

There are quite a few GTR's running around New Zealand. I good guess would be in the middle 50's or so. Considering we have a population nationwide of around 4 million. Skylines in total would have to be well over the 45,000 mark as there are quite a few.

the newer versions of the gtr's are heavier. Im not sure if they make a bit more power or not, but the main difference is the vspec chassis and gadget ****. An r34 would beat an r32 on a road course. Im not sure, but an r33 probably would also.
