Think about it for a second. What makes more sense to you: Polyphony are directly mixing car models ported straight from a six year old PlayStation 2 game with their shiny new models of exceptionally high polygon counts, in order to do nothing but artificially bolster the game's car list; or they are including the last generation 'tard cars in a separate game mode as something of a bonus fan service?
That wasn't an answear to what's exciting about the standard cars though, was it?

And to be honest I'd prefer if they just included the 200 premium cars, because mixing cars of two generations is not my kind of cup of tea, and not very perfectionistic either for that matter.

Interesting pic some will remember half way down that page.

How, exactly, is that in any way related to "your thoughts about Standard versus Premium?"

Sorry, I should have used the quote function. That was a reply to Tornado's post, not yours. :P

Why on Earth would they not apply the new physics model to the standard cars? The only reason they have standard cars is because they don't have high GT5 quality models for those cars. If they have the physics model already, there's no reason to think they wouldn't apply it to all the cars.

not to mention the fact that GTPSP, containing most of the cars from GT4, had completely different physics than GT4, said to represent the new GT5 physics model.

Thank you 👍

i don't care, just give me all the tracks from gt4

Right  GT4 with PS3 graphics and new physics would make me happy, but we are getting so much more with GT5 im really excited man 👍

What was exciting about the cars in GT4? They're still cars, we still get to drive them, on new circuits, with new features (some probably still to be announced) online, with friends, or enemies...

Grow up.

Oh, and just because you can't stand seeing standard cars and premium cars side by side, why should I not get the chance? The world is not you alone.

danielwhite74: you know no more than we do. Please stop trying to preach to us, you're irritating.

 👍

I don't think that would be rubbish, I think it's the only right thing to do. People like me who don't like the standard cars at all don't want to mix the two together in races.

I still don't get why people are excited about the standard cars, and I don't think I've received a good answear yet.
I shall give you a good answer.

For starters I shall use the standard cars to race online with my friends. Now if the GT5 leaderboards are similiar to GT5P i.e each car has its own leaderboard, then thats 800 cars I can hotlap with.

Let me tell you how we used to race online on Forza 2/3 because this ties in with my answer. We never used leaderboard cars and would randomly select a stock car from the garage. The main reason for doing this is so everything is equal and the winner of the race will be based on skill rather than who had the better tune. Also this made for some extremely close races. So this means on GT5 we have a choice of 1000 cars rather than restricting ourselves to 200 pretty cars. When we are racing online or hotlapping we don't have time to admire the dashboards.

As far as im concerned you lot can restrict yourselves to 200 cars but I certainly won't be.

P.S if anyone likes how we race online then send me a friend request because we always like to meet fellow racers who have a similiar attitude. We don't care about winning because we would rather be involved in a race thats very close than be miles in the lead, hence why we randomly selected a car in Forza that we all use in a race. We tend to change the car after each race with everyone taking turns in picking a car.

An awful lot of PDs decisions of the past year or so haven't made any sense, even ignoring that splitting the cars being the more "correct" way to handle things is a completely subjective viewpoint. Furthermore, even if there was some greater consistent logic behind all of PD's actions that we haven't been able to comprehend, "what makes more sense" is in no way remotely related to "Kaz confirmed that the cars will be separated 4 years ago." All of the proof you have presented to support the latter has been idle speculation on your part.

So all cars being able to roll over doesn't make you think all cars will run on the same physics system? Day to night, New photo mode, roll over, damage and more to come at GC. Seems to me you are just angry so everything dealing with standard cars you hate  Like I said I get to take my Integra Type R with GT5 new physics drive on the 24 Hour Nur track with day to night transitions I will take that all day man. 👍
Will indeed look quite funny to see a standard car roll over, as their chassis are not modeled. I don't see how a new photo mode could affect the standard cars in a good way, as you'll just be able to closely see how much less detailed than the premium cars they are. Which Integra Type R do you mean? There is a premium Integra Type R already, but if you want to use the standard one instead, then fine.

I'm not angry at all. I'm just curious about what people think is so exciting about polished last gen graphics.

They looked fantastic and had impressive physics, but that was 5 years ago...

They may or may not have new physics in GT5, but I think making physics for 800 cars to the level of the premium cars would take quite some time.

Oh, and just because you can't stand seeing standard cars and premium cars side by side, why should I not get the chance? The world is not you alone.
True. This is why PD should have given us the premium cars only, because face it, if they never told us about the standard cars and from the beginning instead said there will be around 200 cars in GT5, everyone would be happy about that, and you wouldn't go "I'd rather have 800 cars with GT4 graphics".

Thats whats its about man 👍 we get many more option with standard cars that we didn't have in GT4. If some want to restrict themselves to the 200 cars thats cool, but dont try to kill the people buzz because we willl have a great time with the standard cars just as the premiums.

Again thats your opinion they don't look last Gen in my opinion.

Ok, so you'll enjoy the standard cars and that's good for you. However, what has premium vs standard cars to do with how close online races we'll have??? You think we won't be able to have close races with only premium cars?

They should give us less? For nothing? The standard cars aren't that bad. Just think of GT5 having 200 cars, with the standard cars as gravy. That's better than not having the option to have 800 cars,

Like I said, I'm still playing GT4 because having 800 cars provides an amazingly deep experience, when you're putting together unique fields of cars. We've been running a Vintage event, a production car challenge where a car is legal for the life of its bodystyle and we even spent a month each at the Ring and La Sarthe, with the race cars... All the while taking tons of great pictures in PhotoMode (check my 38 page photobucket GT4 phtotomode folder, all taken after going back to GT4, from GT5P burnout). This is all in just the last 8 months, while we've been waiting for GT5, after getting tired of the limits on the online racing with Prologue. But, we've also kept up our league racing with Prologue, running 3 nights a week, as well as having monthly enduros (we did 9hrs yesterday).

My point is that both the high car count of GT4 (despite its lesser graphics and physics) and the high detail and online of Prologue (despite its lesser car and track count) have different draws and ways they can make GT5 a really deep car game, and you want to eliminate half of that equation.

He just answered the question you asked all of us standard car lovers, how are you switching the question now? Again GT4 didnt have online so know we get to play with our favorite GT4 cars against friends, foes and I agree with him.

I think you misunderstood my post. Let me repeat again how we race online.

We each take turns choosing a car between races. So if its my turn and I select say the Ferrari F458, then everyone else will use that car in that particular race. After the race has finished the next person in the room will select a car which we all use.

So now you understand how we race if GT5 only consisted of 200 cars then it wouldn't be long before we had used all the cars. However with the 800 standard cars this give us even greater choices.

Just remembered I have a replay of a race I was in to show how close the racing can be. You will have to excuse the collisions off on the race!

You can love them how much you want, but I still don't get why you do, because in my opinion they are simply out of date.

Even if I'm the only one with this opinion, I will always I think PD made a big mistake by including to completely different types of cars.

I could care less about how the cars are modeled or anything like that.
I just want to play the game.
REAL gamers/enthusiasts just want to play the game.

How can it be a mistake when at least this way everyone has the option. You don't have to use the standard cars or are you worried a standard car may scratch your premium bodywork.

I just told you man  If they are out of date In your opinion thats cool and i respect that. I love graphics man, but in the end this is a driving game and in the end driving these standard cars will be just as fun driving as the premium.

Did I make a relevant point that 800 cars provides a lot of depth, and provide rationale as to why the final quality of the car models isn't the be all end all of GT5?

Yes.

Without meaning to stir trouble but I feel many of us including yourself have given good answers why we want standard cars but unfortunately they didn't like the answer!

Im pleased we have standard cars, everyone should see it as 200 plus 800 bonus rather than 1000 minus 800 :) :)

Spot on mate, excellent way of putting it.

As I said before, they should have skipped all that 3D & Move BS and use that time to make more premium cars. I would have been perfectly happy with 4-500 cars, heck even prologue level of detail would have been enough.

Blame Sony for including useless movement steering and 3D, they could have patched that in later while getting the core of the game done for launch. Core being cars & racetracks, not some wii ripoff steering where you dance around your living room with a plastic dildo in your hand.
