I love that 330, but I'm more excited for the Ford GT40 MkIV! Can't wait to drive that beast!

I'm actually looking for scale model of 330 and GT40 , and they are expensive :dopey: Good thing they are premium. Hopefully we see more legendary super cars and racing cars in premium mode.

How about the F1 cars of the past with four wheels at the back

Ok, wouldn't you guys rather have more tracks or cars or features than an inside view of a car? Plus don't complain about only "over 200" premium vehicles because most racing games have 200 cars or less. SO CALM DOWN!:grumpy::indiff::crazy:👍👎

Well most games don't involve a 5 year dev/wait process. Most games don't tought a number of cars and then reveal a vast majority of them aren't up to snuff. And most games didn't charge up to $40 for what was basically a demo/tech build.

GT5 is not most games and it's kind of ironic that suddenly the king of all racing games is being defended by the fact that it's not worse than "most games".

Amidst all the recent news on GT5, I started to dig up old GT related videos and I discovered a very interesting video of Kaz presenting "the future of Gran Turismo" at TGS way back in 2006.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF0qe618RcI

Doesn't "GT-HD Premium" and "GT-HD Classic" sound an awful lot like premium and standard?? The bullet points that describe each confirm that the notion of GT having premium and standard cars. "GT-HD Premium" is described as 'Full PS3 Spec Qualities' while "GT-HD Classic" is described as "GT Assets recreated in full HD". Even the video he shows to demonstrate "GT-HD Classic" looks very similar to the standard cars video released only a few weeks ago.

lol I found this really cool when I watched this. To see all this big news that we've been getting being delivered in a press conference that happened 4 YEARS AGO.

There is alot more interesting bits in the video. Especially the list of proposed features at 1:40. Interesting to see many ideas that were proposed back in 2006 (before GTHD was even released) finally see the light of day in 2010. (would LOVE to see if PD ever got around to the number plate editor )

More neat tidbits:
- Spectator Mode!
- Coloring/Livery Editor (guess Kaz didn't get to do everything he wanted to do) :(
- "Race Builder Tool" = Track Creator? :)
- A "more casual gameplay style" for GT5?? (8:31)
- lol @ the comments

This has been discussed before... yes the ideas were touched on back then, then pretty much panned and a move to just GT5 was made. It was never really hinted at that the dropped project would actually be in many ways what we end up getting.

I think it's funny on one of those screens it says "Flood storefront with quality and quantity".

Who knew quality and quantity would be referring to two seperate things :)

Interesting thought,
If GT6 is going to be released for the PS3, and all the cars in GT6 will be of 'premium' standard(bad pun is bad),
With 6 months(roughly per car) does it not mean that to cut the wait for the new game to just 2-3 years, they will need to get to work on GT6 on November 4th(and they would still struggle to keep the wait down),
Given that time is the main reason we have for the whole 2 tier system in the first place.

I think your to optimistic. I`m sure that most of the standard cars will stay standard for GT6.

Till GT6 arrives, there will be dozens of new cars around and so on.

I doubt that standard every day cars will become premium... ;)

I just found this picture about 10 pages ago. Do you think that this is a standard car?
btw, eventhough its off topic, does this mean that there won`t be fuel (stops) in gt5?

Looks standard, for starters the windscreen is blacked out, secondly it looks nowhere near as good as the other premiums weve seen, look at the mirrors for example.

First, we already know that prologue cars are premium cars, so there are a fair few everyday cars in that lot.

Secondly, I think the JGTC cars of old(er than 2009) will be standard, but there's no proof of it so we will wait and see (don't gamble on them being premium though).

There better be fuel stops! It makes sense to include them, swap driver, change tyres, add more fuel, in no specific order, should be in the game. If they aren't GT5 will have taken a step backwards.

Like a Prius maybe?

I am pretty sure the way the standard split works is that if they don't already have am model for it from a previous GT game, they make it as a premium.

It's not like they would say "oh we don't have that model so we have to make it now, but it's kind of a blah car so lets just create it low quality".

Uahh, I think you missunderstood me!

I just wanted to say that I doubt that they are going to make all every day cars (This was just an example, you can replace it with race car etc) in GT4 into premium.

Not more, not less. Its just too much work to make all of them into premium (Except PD makes new models with a quality which is slighty lower then the current premiums).

I was told some cars from GT4 are premium, but nobody mentioned any specific car models.

Can I have a link where KY or PD or Sony confirms we will not have cockpits in standard cars please? If it's true, than...

...from the neutral side:
- you can't blame KY, maybe he's not responsible
- maybe, some less interesting cars were remodeled only for marketing purposes, we're talking about an (gaming) industry, they have to make profit, it's understandable
- I'll buy it anyway, it will be a great game!

...from the negative side:
- I can see the difference between standard and premium cars from miles =-o
- inconsistency
- many great older cars will remain in the shadow
- Polyphony doesn't have high-poly models of the cars from previous titles (it's not time management failure, it's a management failure as whole!)
- we were lied
- car segregation, possible race limitations
- F40 is premium, so, personally, I'm calm :-), but I wouldn't like to be a fan of a car that remained standard - I'm really sorry for you guys, you'd deserve premium after 6 years of waiting... :'(

...from the positive side:
- in GT mode, you can feel the progress when you're moving forward and realize how far GT did go since 2004 (in case they'll use this handicap as their best weapon)
- we'll have more cars to race with (better than nothing)

I can't remember any other positives... :-(

Quite simply all cars seen in most GT5 screenshots and footage apart from that clip of Standard cars are Premium, you can see for yourself which were already in GT4.

Boy there is a lot of rationlization and PD protection going on there... can't blame KY because maybe hes not responsible? Who would be responsible? KY runs the show at PD.

Anyway, Famine said in an interview KY said they tried to put even just a black border like GTPSP into the standard cars and it turned out to be too hard so they scratched it.

Am I really protecting them when I say their managers screwed it up? And who would be responsible? Beginning of my post may be a little clue...

Am I the only person to have read "in GT5 all the cars will have in-car cockpit view.
it's just that 200 premium cars will have amazingly in-car details with a lot more polishing." here when the news was very... new ?

Well first of all the argument that you CANT blame KY because he MIGHT not have been responsible doesn't really hold up... you can't blame him if you KNOW he is not responsible, but unless you do know that, it's still quite reasonable.

And KY is the boss of PD... he runs everything there... now maybe if someone just made a typo or something that's not his fault, but really all decisions and changes have to go through him, or else he is doing a poor job at being in charge... in either case, it's his fault.

I am taking Famines word on this, but as I said, according to him, KY mentioned they tried for 2 months for even cursory cockpit views and they scrapped it.

Neutral is "I'll buy it anyway, it will be a great game!"? Hardly sounds neutral or to the point... is just kind of a toss it in to make sure you aren't just saying something bad about PD and KY and how do you know it will be great? As is common to remind people around here, no one has played the final version yet.

And it will give you a chance to see how far we have come since 2004? That's a positive? I don't think any other game with 80% old models would get that listed as a positive do you?

The official Gran Turismo website says that standard cars will not have interior views. At least the US version of the official site says so.

If you mean the "some better news on some potential fears" part then I have to say I was hoping for it as well despite knowing it could mean a lot of things.

I have continually been at a loss for how this whole "Standard / Premium" has come to be the structure in GT5.

However recently I am of the opinion that it was the structure of the game from day one.

All the major improvements have been in the Premiums all along.

I think PD got lost in their own Premium Dev time warp and when they woke up some 5+ yrs later, the standard in racing games had passed their standard concept.
Sort of asleep at the wheel or at the least, absorbed to distraction.

This is the only viable explanation I can concieve of, considering they were scrambling around trying to Dev up a PSP standard car cockpit at the eleventh hour, only to abandon the project. Classic case of too little too late I guess.

No, but you may be the only one not to read where it was retracted.

Reminds me of a dilbert strip I saw a long time ago in which Pointy Haired Boss is talking about how they are projected to be on par with the competition in a year and Dilbert asks if they will be on par with where the competition is now, which is pointless, or if they know where the competition will be in a year which is impossible.

From the TGS video posted few pages back it was clear what his vision was for GT5. I do not think there was any problem and they have pretty much achieved their goals. Anyone can say it was wrong idea to do this and so on ... I really wanted to see standard cars videos. It is also important part of game and I think they know it
