It has been said, by a reliable source, that GT5 can be played without ever having to touch a Standard, for all you squeamish people. They were included to expand the game for those that would miss the cars themselves.

Incidentally, I don't think that an option to enable / disable Standards (e.g. at install) is a bad idea. Keeps everyone "happy".

perfect. all are happy.

May i ask where did you read/heard that?

Stop spreading BS. If you don´t want to use them, just don´t use it.

Why would you want me (and thousands others) to not be able to race with cars like the Lotus Carlton or the Minolta 88C-V?
I'm not spreading BS, but Standards weren't mentioned by PD since E3. Makes you wonder why. :scared:

It was a post amar212 made; possibly in this very thread. I've had a quick look, but can't find it, sorry. :ouch:

Maybe somebody else remembers?

I do.

Wouldn't consider it to be confirmed though. I'd say it's likely since it makes a lot of sense, but still not confirmed in my book.

It does make you wonder, doesn't it? They are conveniently omitting anything about standard cars and just showing off snippets of the best features.
It makes you think the standards will look so out of place as to be ridiculous :grumpy: Clearly, they are not keen to show fans the fruit of their labour in this matter.

It's working quite well also... outside of GTP I have yet to come across a gamer forum post where even one person has the details right on standard cars... usually I hear things close to a a 50/50 split and that standards will look just as good as premiums jut not have cockpits etc.

so with this reasoning we get this result : games that have good level of consistency (all parts are equally good-average) get higher scores and are more appreciated by reviewers than games that have overall AWESOME-INNOVATIVE parts but also some disappointing parts (which are just good-average).

I find this result unfair for the hardwork of developers and do not motivate at all developers to innovate.

Most decent reviewers will at least point out innovative features or new technology, when they come across it.

An analogy: look at any racing championship. How about F1? A driver could have the occasional amazing race, winning by a wide margin, but other races, do poorly and not even achieve points. Another driver could consistently score podiums, but never an outright win. Who ends up ahead at the end of the season?

A game is only as strong as it's weakest feature. A GT5 without the Standards might've been a smaller game, and people could argue whether it would've been a better or worse game, but the quality throughout the game would've all been to one consistent level. Having them in there (and taking up by far the majority of the car lineup), yeah, they should net some negative flak from reviewers. No other game has so blatantly carried over assets from a game a hardware generation removed and half a decade old (or even older in the case of the GT3 cars).

Your argument seems pretty clear; you believe quantity should be applauded, regardless of quality.

I do.

Well, quite. I won't consider anything "confirmed," until I see it for myself (i.e. in November.) But that's just me :P

why would they put the standard cars on the big stage? have you seen a game trailer that shows the boring parts? of course not. you have to show the parts where they are MOST proud of and what will get people excited about the game. obviously, standard cars dont get anyone excited so why show it on the big stage?

Ironically my most anticipated news for TGS was for the standards. Only to put to bed some of the issues raised here.

I'm chugged with what was revealed however and PD have done a good job.

I was expecting PD to get the standard issue done and dusted long ago. Doesn't make much sense to build up as it were to it's weakest feature.

IMHO it doesn't bode well with the lack off info at this late stage.

I'm not too bothered with the graphical standards of the models, it's allways been about cockpit view for me.
Kinda get spoilt in this day and age with cockpits. It's seems as though it's standard practise to include a cockpit nowadays.

Funny I use the word standard in that sentence though eh.

👍
Same here, Ive gotten used to cockpit view, it'll be hard to drive any other way, heres hoping theres a decent bonnet cam at the very least.

I do.

It is not confirmed and I have to say it clearly in order to prevent misunderstanding.

I do not have 100% accurate and official info regarding Standard/Premiums at this point and my post regarding that matter can't be treated as accurate.

I hope it will be possible to put some official light in less than 30 days though, so until then everything is just prediction.

Because it is shaping up to be easily the most divisive thing about the game, and it would be a really good idea to attempt to assuage people's fears about them before the game ships. Especially when we know next to nothing in regards to them.

obviously, they cant make ALL cars premium because the blu-ray disc wont hold the memory.. but then again it would be pretty cool to have two discs like the GT2!

Well, we've had or second video glimpse of Standards (though even less than the original video): The Red Bull trailer showed the Corolla Rally Car and ST185 Celica Rally Car crossing the line at Ice Arena. And uh... it looks very much like GT4. It's a low-res video though, but considering every asset from that small glimpse is carry-over, I guess it's not too surprising.

FWIW, it's not like it looks bad. Just... not as good. Heh. Honestly, for me personally, if there's a good bonnet cam (at the very base of the windshield), the lack of a cockpit view won't bother me too much. But it still leaves me with the issue of discrepancies between the two tiers in regards to damage and night racing. And modifications.

I'm wondering if the awesome rain effect we've seen on the windshields will translate to other views as well. I would hope so; I hope the screen doesn't stay clear if somebody is using, say, chase cam, since that'd give an unfair advantage over somebody dealing with lowered visibility in cockpit view.

if you want to see the standard cars, just play gt4

If you're new to GT then of course you'd want the next generation cockpit view. If you are GT veteran, however, you are more than used to the bumper cam, so you wouldn't want that removed and you have no qualms at all using it.

The majority of people who complain are those that have just picked up the game within the last two years or so. I say seniority wins over, the regular cams stay for standard cars, and if they don't like it then they can do one of two things:
1) Hope that PD releases DLC after the release and charge their butts off for pestering them.
2) Don't buy the damn game!

agreed. i have been a GT fan since GT1 and bought every single GT game known to man.

That's an incredibly lazy view point. I love cockpit view and would love to see it spread throughout the game and I've been playing GT since '98.

Just because we didn't have something during the first game doesn't mean it should be acceptable to not include it for the rest of the series. A lot changes in 12 years.

Look at this capture (props to Timpaqq):

Standard or Premium?

obviously, they cant make ALL cars premium because the blu-ray disc wont hold the memory..
The models don't take up that much space. The 200 cars they have probably only take up a few GB on the disc. I would imagine most of the space is taken by textures, and those are mostly for the tracks. Cars use primarily shaders instead of textures.

exactly, have you seen the texture shown in each of the premium cars? so include those premium cars and the 70+ tracks, how much room do you have left for 800 more premiums?
