Standards were cockpit view capable,if they had this feature a lot of people will be focusing on the quality of the models, nevertheless I want to show you this because the quality of a simple car on GT4 will always be superior to current gen models, excepting big mayor titles like dirt series or grid or NFS the GT4 models looks like current gen (deny this its like denying that games like NFS pro street,FM2 and NFS undercover never exited).
Convertables in GT4 had a visible interior. And to be fair, looking at GT4 on a compressed 360p youtube video covers up a lot. I can tell you absolutely that on my HDTV and Projectors even via component set at 1080i GT4 still shows it's age compared to GT5P and the likes.
And I am not sure what you mean GT4 models look like current gen except the big names and then you name all the names of the same genre... I mean they are arguably better than current open world or sandbox games which also feature cars but that's usually limited to looks alone and doesn't account for things like sepereate body panels and damage - even GTA4 had interiors of cars modeled all be it roughly. Either way this brings us back to the much beleagured comparison I made with Tekken 6 and GTA4: you can't really compare across genres to assess "current gen"
