I'll play with the VW Bus for a while for sure. Won't win any races but I'll definitely aim for the leaderboards for time trials with it.

Another premium-standard Nissan MM comparison, not made by me.

I think that in addition of toning down the opacity of door and panel gap lines, PD got rid of some of the fake textured shading.

I guess the images on the right were taken from GT4, right?
In my opinion, the differences aren't that big. The GT5 version looks better due to the high-res textures and the lighting/reflections, but it's still pretty clear where its roots lie.

Yes, sorry, I meant GT4-GT5 standard car comparison.

You misunderstand me. We are getting way MORE than we should expect considering 3-3.5 years of development time, especially from a 140 man team. It's not PD's fault SONY forced the, to finish GTPSP.

Team of 400+. 140 in house plus 2-3x as many outside workers. One of the recent interviews or maybe a SEMA article confirmed this.

👍

- Better rims
- Better reflections

Is the GT4 picture from PHOTO MODE? It looks like an in-game shot with 2d wheels. Look at the car at the dealer or in photo mode in GT4. The wheels and rotors look just like the GT5 shot.

I agree with the quality. I don't think they are too bad. Sure some are worst than others. I prefer to at least have them in than out. GT6 I would expect most of them to be premiums though. I think they spent way too much time modeling cars. I had a few favorites from GT4 that aren't premium and I'd hate to loose those. Besides I use chase, and bonnet driving views anyways. Less that 5% of the time, I will use cockpit and that will be just to play with headtracking. I am not has hardcore as some of you guys.

Just a sample of premiums that I personally can't wait to drive. I am officially blocking out the trolls and haters now. I finally gave the car list a thorough peek and am MORE than happy about this.

Just based on what I put in BOLD on your list will keep me busy for 100 hours all by themselves.

Now while the custom rim on Standard fiasco is frustrating to me, I am over it. I will miss not putting some OZ wheels on the 04 Pontiac GTO, but as long as I can put the performance parts in it, I'll be fine.

Boggles the mind........ Unless it comes at a discount there's no reason to ever use the standard.

Who else is excited about the Ferrari Enzo? BTW can you change the paint of individual car parts or you can only change the paint of the whole car altogether?

Never saw that, got a link?

Found it, here we go:

That strive for perfection is probably a tough part of the job, but a lot of people look at you and see that you play with cars and are making a video game. A lot of kids growing up dream of being video-game designers, designing cars or driving cars for a living. But out of all the things, what's the most stressful part, or what you consider the worst part of your job?

I think video games being developed now, the scale is getting bigger and bigger. We have a 140 staff at Polyphony Digital working on Gran Turismo, and if you include all the external people involved in the development process, there's several times more than that. With that many people involved, it's quite hard to keep the project on a single track during that development process. That's something that is hard to balance.

A very large number may think I'm mad for the following, but I was rather pleased to see the Mazda Autozam AZ-1 listed as Premium (well P/S), always loved that little car.

Spend a fortune on tuning it up (and it does end up being a fortune) and its a hoot to drive, well it was in GT4.

Scaff

You are not alone. I recently bought one in GT4 to see how does it drive. I'm pretty pleased that it is a Premium. 👍

As far as I know, paint only applies to two elements, the entire body as a whole, and the wheels. There are cars like the Veyron that do generally have two-tone paint jobs, but as that's a standard car...

From what I can tell in this comparison the GT5 model is a direct import from GT4. It definitely does look a lot better with HDR lighting, HD resolution and anti-aliasing but if you look close the model and textures are clearly identical.

- The mesh resolution is the same - this is most noticeable on the rear deck lid, front grill, and rear view mirrors where you can see that all the polygon faces are in the same place.

-The textures resolution (detail) is the same - look at the textured door and windows seams and you can easily pick out individual pixels in both GT5 and GT4 and see that they are the same texture (its harder to see the lines in GT5 because of the environment reflections and lighting). Same goes for the logos and decals. Look at the horizontal line above the number 38, its has 3 distinct 'jaggies' in both models which tells you right away its the same resolution texture. And that is the texture, not aliasing from the model.

This whole idea of standard cars and premium cars was a bad idea by PD in my opinion, kinda seperates the game into two parts which is bad :(

I'm rather satisfied by what is coming. Although the "Premium" notion does divide the overall experience that GT5 tries to offer, I can stand to enjoy the game, just the same. I have a select number of cars that I drive anyway, and the likelihood of all of them even being available in "Premium" is slim. However, Gran Turismo is a hobbyist's game. There will ALWAYS be something to improve and look forward to. The developers realize this, and so in good faith they released their work to the demanding audiences. There is a reason why KY emphasized GT6 already. He isn't finished. He likely never will be. There is plenty to look forward to; even post GT5. So bring on the DLC as a means of finishing GT5 to it's best intention. And bring on GT6 in it's due time. I will keep racing, regardless. And I will keep smiling about it :)

So two-tone paint jobs are not possible for standard cars? :grumpy:

The panel gaps have clearly been cleaned up though, and you can't really used the lines above the 38 as an example, because in reality the texture on that will be a perfectly straight line when you look at it dead on. Texture resolution has to be determined by the quality of the fills and smoothness of the curves, but not the straight line edges. Either way I think you're correct, because the GT logo on the back hasn't been enhanced at all.
